Yellow is happiness, yellow is plain,

Yellow is sunshine without any rain.

Anything but yellow was what you were;

Your contrast to yellow was your greatest allure.

Closer to the moon than you were to the sun

In colour and complexion,

Your hair was the dark of the night—

But you were pallid like starshine,

Not at all the daffodil colour of jovial daylight.

Yet, on the inside, you were dark, enigmatic,

Impenetrable, a cloak-and-dagger type of secret;

One that I yearned to be told.

You were surreptitious right down to your soul

And I was not granted the opportunity

To see the yellow within.

If I shone some of my yellow light upon you,

Would I see just how altruistic you are?
