《》The Ultimate Bad Day

I look over at Logan, he was quietly getting ready for work. I was finally well enough to go in with him. My therapy session was yesterday and after talking for half an hour, Wendy asked Logan to stay alone.

I have no clue what they talked about but Logan hadn't said a word since.

I'm worried.

I didn't mind the therapy sessions much anymore, I didn't feel better but I haven't gotten worse. I even feel okay about being a stepmom to Logan's child or... I don't know, a friend.

I actually kind of like kids, I never really wanted them because I'm sure I would be a shitty mother.

But Logan wants kids, I can tell he's somewhat happy about the baby. She's sent him a picture of the sonogram in the mail and a video of the heartbeat through text. I'm sure this isn't the way he wanted it to go, he hasn't spoken a word about kids to me.

Until he does, I won't bring it up.

When he slips his shoes on, I stand in front of him, adjusting my skirt. "Logan?"

He looks up at me and says nothing.

"What's the matter? You just shut down after the session with Wendy. I'm trying to respect your privacy with her, but you're not talking to me."

He looks back down and ties his shoelaces. Letting out a sigh, he sits back up. "I really don't want to talk about it right now, Yasmin."

"Then when?" He walks past me, into the bathroom and adjusts his cuff links.

"Not right now." I stare at him and turn to the closet mirror. I look at myself for a long moment, not really looking but thinking.

Is it me?

"You'd tell me if I did something wrong, wouldn't you? I mean, Wendy said that we should allow ourselves to be vuln—"

"Fuck what Wendy says!" He slams a hand on the counter, making me flinch back. "Didn't I say I don't want to talk about it? Why are we still talking?" He looks at me through the mirror with the darkest eyes I'd seen in a long time.

I blinked a few times to get rid of the stinging in my eyes and slid my heels on. I applied nude lipstick to my lips and walked out of the room.

I grab my purse and my work bag, waiting in the car for him to come out.

Five minutes later, he comes out, locking the door behind him. His hair looks like he ran his hands through it a thousand times before coming out. He always looks good, even when he's being an asshole.

He gets into the driver's seat, putting on his seatbelt and driving off without a word.

I stare out the window and frown at the people walking around. I narrow my eyes at the smiling, giggling couple walking together on the sidewalk. I want that, yet I still don't have it.

We arrive faster than my mind was prepared for. He gets out of the car and walks into the building without me. I can't keep my brows from furrowing as I slowly get out of the car and grab my purse. I look at myself in the window and jump when he abruptly turns around to lock the car doors. He turns back around and keeps walking while I trail behind him, heels clicking against the concrete.

When we enter, Rachel greets us with a smile. She gave us a funny look as she answered a call. Logan walks to the elevator and doesn't hold it for me, I walk quickly to catch it in time.

No one was inside with us and I could feel the tension. But why is there tension? I told him that I accepted the fact that Sarah and him were having a baby, I wasn't even mad anymore.

So why is he mad? I sneak a peek at him and take note of his locked jaw and closed eyes.

"Lo—" the elevator dings and he steps out before I can call him. Like before, I trail behind him and enter the office room.

I go to my side and sit in my chair, looking up when Rachel knocks on the door. "Sir, here is a list of clients that called today. Also Peter came by, he wanted to have a talk with you." She hands him some papers and walks over to me.

"Good morning, ma'am. I got your email last night, glad to see your back. Mr. Carter wants to have a discussion with only you for brunch. He wrote down where and when here." She hands me a sticky note and smiles at me kindly before walking out of the room.

I stare at the sticky note, wondering why in the hell Mr. Carter would want to see me. Checking the time, I had three hours until I was supposed to meet him.

My eyes darted over to Logan who was typing rapidly, a blank expression on his face as he stared at his laptop.

Rachel came back in with our coffees, I thanked her before she shut the door behind her.

I decided to start organizing the files on my desk, sipping my coffee. That only took five minutes so I sat back and finished off my coffee. Barely any time had passed before my brunch with Mr. Carter.

I sigh and call Rachel to get me two more cups of coffee. Might as well start on these files.

I pick up one and look at the potential employee. A very small part of my job was looking through online job applications made to us. Rachel would go through them and organize the positions so that we could decide to hire them or not. I would be conducting the interviews once Logan and I came to a mutual agreement.

I had over forty job applications to go through. It would be my first time since I started working here conducting interviews, Logan and I agreed to alternate before we even got together. Or whatever we can call it.

I finish off my second coffee, though I was still tired. I looked at the time, ten o'clock sharp. I had thirty minutes to meet him.

I grab my purse and my phone, pausing in the middle of the room. "I'm going to the brunch with your dad..." I look over at him to find him reading through paperwork, not moving an inch at the sound of my voice.

I wait for what felt like hours to see if he'd say something.

But he said nothing, so I left.

I took his car, the one we drove in earlier and parked at Panera Bread after driving for fifteen minutes. I frowned at his choice since that was quite a public place and Mr. Carter was quite well known.

I walk in and go into the far back, I see him sitting alone in a booth, slurping up soup. Upon seeing me, he beams and waves me over. "Yasmin Krämer! How are you, darling?"

I sit across from him and place my purse down, smiling briefly at him. "I'm well, and yourself?"

"Absolutely fantastic! I bet you're wondering why I asked to see you, huh?" He giggles and rubs his hands together.

I nod with a confused smile. I wasn't necessarily a fan of merging with the Carters in the beginning, but Mr. Carter had been nothing but kind since I'd met him.

"Oh, before my old mind forgets, how are you and my son doing?" He rests his chin on his hands and smiles gently.

My eyes nearly bug out of my head, "Me and Logan... Um, you know, we're fine. I mean, we work well together." I nod my head at my words, staring at him with a blank expression.

It finally occurred to me that Logan's family would find out about us and want to know. A private discussion with his dad was not exactly how I imagined it going.

"I figured. The reason why I called you here was to talk about you and him." He drops his hands and a waiter brings me a random order.

"I hope you don't mind, I ordered for you. We'll be here for a while." He rests back in his seat and crosses his arms with that smile still in place.
