《》The Ultimate Doctor's Appointment

I was beginning to show now, I looked down at my feet and could still see all of my toes and most of the top of my foot. I never wanted something so bad in my life.
The swollen feet, back pain, the baby kicking, the weird food cravings, all of it. This pregnancy has to happen, it just has to.
Nick held my hand as we walked into the waiting room. I decided to send Logan a picture of the sonogram since I was far along enough to listen to the heart beat.
We sat down and I looked at the round-bellied women, who looked to be more advanced in their pregnancy. Some by themselves and others with a friend or significant other.
A little boy approached me, no older than four years old. He had the biggest brown eyes I'd ever seen and a snotty nose that made me lean back slightly. Snot and all, he was still cute.
"Hello." He patted my knee gently and sniffled.
"Hi," I smile at him, trying to look for his mom.
"Are you having a baby?" I look back down at him and look at my small baby bump.
"I am, is your mommy having a baby too?"
He nods frantically and puts hand on my stomach to my surprise, he grins widely and giggles. "I'm getting a baby sisterrrrr!"
I look over at Nick who can't contain his grin. "Where's your mommy?" I pull a Kleenex from my purse, unable to stand the snot dripping from his nose. I gently hold his face and wipe, he lets me, closing his eyes.
When I pull away, he opens his eyes and answers my question. "Both my mommies are ober derr," he points a tiny finger to a woman with her head titled all the way back, snoring, her round stomach showing through her shirt. Then to a woman next to her with her head tilted forward into a magazine that was slipping from her hands slowly.
Chuckling slightly, I get up and walk him over to them, my hand holding his. "Let's take you back over there, okay?"

"Okay!" He starts skipping along side me, hand gripping mine tightly.
I tap the pregnant woman's shoulder, her head snapped up and her blue eyes met mine. "Huh?!" I bit my lip to hide my smile.
"Is this cutie yours?" I look down to see him dancing, giggling to himself.
"Andrew!" She scoops him up and hugs him tight. He squeals and wraps his arms around her neck. She smacks the woman next to her.
"I'm up!" The woman sits up, wiping the slobber from her lip and look around. "What I do?"
"Karry, you were supposed to be watching him! You know he wanders off." Karry grimaces and pats Andrew's back gently.
"I'm sorry, I accidentally dozed off. But he's obviously fine!" I suddenly start to feel awkward, I begin to walk away but my actions only draw attention to me.
"Oh, hey, I didn't get your name." The pregnant woman looks at me with a kind expression.
"Sarah, and you?" I shake her outstretched hand.
"McKenzie, this is Karina." She gives Karry— or Karina a look before smiling at me. "Thank you for bringing our kid to us, he wasn't any trouble was he?"
"Oh no, none at all. He's so sweet," I smile at him and rub my belly.
"Aw, you're expecting! How far along are you?" Karina shoots up and raises her brows, looking at my stomach.
"Around 10 or 11 weeks." I watch as both their eyebrows at my answer.
"Oh, um, I don't mean to offend you. But your baby bump is kinda big for you to only be 10 or 11 weeks." I look at McKenzie, frowning slightly.
"What, is that bad?"
"I doubt it, but my brother's wife starting showing really early and found out later that she was h—"
"Sarah Copeland." My head snaps up to find a nurse holding the door open, a clipboard in hand. I feel Nick behind me, his hand at my back.
"Um, it was nice meeting you two. Thanks for letting me know. Bye Andrew!" I wave at the small boy sucking his thumb and leave the two women.

"Bye, good luck to you!"
"Bwy, Miss Sawah!"
My mind start to fog as I think of what McKenzie said. I mean, I guess I was a little bigger compared to my other pregnancies. But I figured it was just me gaining weight. I swear Nick is trying to fatten me up.
"Hi! Right this way. I'm Rachel, I'll be getting you situated until your Gynecologist comes in." She took us to a room and pulled out a gown for me to change into. Nick sat in the chair while I walked up to Rachel to take the gown.
She turned to me, her dark skin practically glowing in the light of the room. She gave me a bright smile and handed the gown to me. "So you can just change into this and lay down right there. He should be in here shortly, okay?" She nods at the both of us before opening and closing the door behind her.
Nick turns away so that I can change. I pause, remembering how platonic we've been. I mean, we've made out and held hands... but nothing remotely sexual.
He's probably just not attracted to you because you're a cow now.
Tears starts to spill down my cheeks at the thought, I sniffle and change into the gown. Folding my clothes, "I'm finished." My voice makes Nick turn around and he immediately notices my tears.
"What's wrong, tesoro?" He walls over to me and takes my face in his hands.
His endearment only makes me cry harder, "you're only being nice to me because I'm fat!"
He wipes under my cheeks with his thumb, confusion written all over his face. "Why would you think that?"
"Look at me! I'm not even supposed to be this big, that's what McKenzie said! Even pregnant women notice I'm fat!" I wipe my nose with a tissue and try to breathe like a normal person.
"That's not what she said, Sarah. Besides, you're the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. I'm completely taken by you." His soft voice only warms my heart but I still feel upset.
"Then why won't you have sex with me?" I look up at him with a pout.
My words stun him, his eyebrows raised. "I-I wasn't aware that you were ready for that. I thought you still wanted time to get over Larry."
"Logan?"
"That's what I said."
I roll my eyes and turn away from him. "So you are attracted to me?" I turn back around to see if he's telling the truth.
"Yes, Bella, I am very much attracted to you," he bites his lip to hide his smile. "If you could only hear my thoughts every time I look at you." His heated gaze traveled up my bare legs, to my eyes.
"Even in the hospital gown?" My voice was barely above a whisper by now.
"Even in the hospital gown," he walked forward while I moved backward, my back pressed against the wall. He caged me with both arms on either side of my head.
Leaning down, he took my lips in his, my body practically melting at his touch. I gasped into his mouth and pulled onto his hair making him moan. He moved down to kiss my neck. His hands sliding under my gown, dragging up my leg slowly.
"Dominick," I close my eyes and moan his name, my head tilted back as his fingers dip into my panties. "Please."
A double knock on the door has us both pulling apart faster than the average human should be able to. "Hi, parents-to-be!"
We both blink at the doctor, I readjust my gown and lay on the bed. The doctor seemed quite oblivious to our rapid breathing and frazzled expressions.
"Ah, Sarah, how are we feeling today?" He sits in a rolling chair and moves over to a computer.
I look at Nick, who is trying to hide his erection with his hands. I look back at the doctor and smile. "I feel great!"

The Simulacrum
"He who fights with harem tropes should see to it that he himself does not become a harem protagonist. And if you gaze for long into a narrative, the narrative gazes also into you." --- Friedrich Nietzsche (probably?) How would you react if one day you woke up inside an environment running on tropes and clichés? For allegedly average high-schooler Leonard Dunning, this question became quite relevant when one day he woke up in a pristine city on a strange island in the middle of the Atlantic, without any memories, surrounded by classmates who are barely more than characterless placeholders, and with a classic indecisive harem protagonist and his impossibly beautiful love interests for friends. That would be hard to deal with already, yet his investigation into the tropes governing the world, trying to avoid harem shenanigans, and his odd blend of outside-context knowledge, unique abilities, and a penchant for causing trouble wherever he goes ends up dragging him into the center of the action anyway. Disclaimer: This is a tongue-in-cheek, slice of life romantic comedy, with occasional sprinkles of combat and mystery to spice things up. Please do not expect a straight up deconstruction beyond some in-universe meta-commentary by the characters.
