《My Fake Boyfriend》Sadness and Secrets

"You still love me and you know it!" She screeched.
Aaron dragged a hand through his hair in frustration.
"I don't love you, Avalon. How can I when I love Lexi?" He shouted.
Everything stopped for me there.
Aaron froze in his tracks, having realised what he said.
But, I couldn't concentrate on anything over the beating of my heart.
****************
Danny's and Justin's heads snapped to attention at this confession and they both turned to each other before looking at Avalon, a slight smile playing at their lips.
I turned my head towards Aaron to see him staring at the ground, his face sporting an emotion that seemed both foreign and unfamiliar on the face of Aaron Walker- shyness.
This was the first time, since I met him, that Aaron wasn't being his usual cocky and confident self. It was a strange concept, yet also quite endearing. I felt a sudden urge to know more of the shy side of the male that stood before me. What then came to realisation was that, upon his confession, Aaron hadn't looked me in the eyes. I waited for a while, glancing up at him, but his eyes remained fixated on the floor.
I heard a small whimper emanating from Avalon and turned my gaze to her to see that she seemed more shocked than me. Her manicured hand was covering her mouth and a single tear streaked down her cheek. She backed away slightly from Aaron before opening her mouth to speak.
"What did you say, Aaron? And, remember, choose your words carefully." She threatened, her voice low. A small whimper escaped her mouth at the end of her sentence as she wiped her tears away with the back of her hand.
I almost felt sorry for her.
The keyword being almost. What she had done, not long ago, had forever cemented an eternal hated, in me, for Avalon. I no longer saw her as the hapless girl who had lost the love of her life due to one helpless accident. I did not view it that way anymore. What shaped her for me was her actions of today. She had purposely torn apart Aaron's blanket which Sam had created for him, with love. She had torn up a token of Sam's love with revenge and malice in her heart.
I could not unsee that and now, when I looked at her, I felt nothing but contempt and disgust. She deserved everything that was coming to her now.
Avalon moved closer to Aaron, a heartbroken look on her face. She wiped the tears off her face again before crossing her arms across her chest.
"Answer me, Aaron. You owe me that much at least." She sobbed, a mixture of sadness and anger on her face.
Danny scoffed from his place at the doorway, an angry smile on his face.
"Owe you? You owe him a blanket, bitch." Danny's voice boomed, yet again, across the room and I flinched at the curse that came out of his mouth. I had never heard Danny curse until today and it seemed so unlike him. The looks he was giving towards Avalon could set ice on fire, but Avalon paid no heed to this and a scowl settled on her face.
She let out a cruel laugh, just like she had done once with me, before continuing.
"I'd rather you not talk. I mean, I lose enough brain cells by just looking at you. Who knows how many die when you open that mouth of yours?" She retorted, a sickly sweet smile on her face. She raised an eyebrow at him mockingly.

At this, I felt the anger that emanated from every single person in the room, including myself. I opened my mouth to retort, but jumped back in surprise when Danny leapt towards her, a string of curses leaving his lips yet, before he could make contact with the witch, Justin had taken ahold of him, his infamous glare fixated on Avalon.
Avalon, however, paid no heed or care to any of this and a smile stretched across her lips. I was seething with anger, but stayed mute. She was not worth my attention.
I watched as Aaron casually walked over towards Danny, the first actual thing after his confession. He looked at Danny and then Justin before settling his eyes on Avalon, a sadistic smile on his face.
"Let him go." He spoke, his words were simple, but the meaning to them was heavy.
At this, the smile on Avalon's face diminished and she looked up at Aaron in shock. Danny, however seemed elated, a triumphant fire in his eyes as he struggled against Justin's hold.
Justin turned to look at Aaron, confusion clouding his grey eyes to which Aaron nodded his head. He folded his arms before speaking.
"Do it. Let him go. I mean, she seems to have a lot to say about Danny from a distance. Let's see if she's quite as vocal when they're face to face." Aaron threatened, his voice deep and low. He looked at Avalon, anger swimming in his sea blue eyes.
Suddenly, Avalon seemed to regain herself and a scowl spread across her face.
"Pretty words from someone who can't stay faithful." She snapped back, flipping her hair back, like she had done once with me, not long ago.
At this, Aaron laughed, but it wasn't his usual laugh. No, it was a cruel and cold laugh that came out his mouth and it made my hairs stand on end. He moved away from Danny and Justin and closer to Avalon. He pointed to himself as he spoke.
"Me? I don't know the meaning of faithful? Jesus, I remembered you cheating on me, but I think I forgot how fucking delusional you were." Aaron's voice was frustrated and strained. He was clearly over this argument. That much I could tell from the way he dragged a hand through his hair, an action he often did when he was angry.
Avalon gasped dramatically, placing a hand over her hand in a way to show her feelings were hurt. More tears streamed down her face; the only difference being that, this time, Aaron seemed to not be affected by it, in the slightest.
"Just what am I delusional about, Aaron? The fact that you told me you loved me? The fact that gave me a single rose every Friday because that was the day you met me? The fact that you took me to dinner every time I heard my parents argue or how you bought me a new phone, after the old one broke, because my voice was the last thing you wanted to hear before you fell asleep? Is that what I'm delusional about?!" Avalon's voice had raised dramatically from a whisper to a full-blown scream, at the end of her sentence.
She had moved closer to Aaron, in the time she had spent speaking, and she looked at him in despair.
I was expecting Aaron to cradle her in his arms and shush away the nightmares, but- instead- he scoffed.
"Dinner? Roses? A phone? You know, I should have expected you to only remember the materialistic things in the relationship. That's all you ever wanted from me, wasn't it? And, what did I do? I grovelled at your feet like a love sick puppy and did whatever you wanted me to do. Actually, after what you've just said, I've realised that all I did was give and all you did was take. Back then, I thought that was how it was supposed to be, but it's not. It's different." Aaron said, a look of disgust in his eyes and it was directed towards Avalon. He glanced at me quickly, at the end of his sentence, before turning his gaze back to Avalon. I blushed slightly.

Avalon, noticeably, fumed at his words, her hands clenching into fists by her side. Her face was, now, red with anger and she gritted her teeth as she spoke.
"It's different, huh?! You're wrong about that, Aaron. I'm not dumb; I can sense the love you feel for me. You loved me then and you still do now. Just admit it, for God's sake!" She exclaimed, her hands flailing exaggeratedly.
At this, Aaron looked to the ground, a look of thought splayed across his face. He was thinking, that I knew. But, the contents of his thoughts, I knew not. After what seemed like decades, Aaron opened his mouth to speak, a faint smile on his face.
"You know, I don't actually think I even loved you back then. I know how it feels now and, what I felt then, was not it. There was a constant and unhealthy need to impress you. That's not love. I never loved you...."
Aaron looked up towards Avalon, before continuing, an apologetic look on his face.
"And, I never will." He stated with a shrug of his shoulders. A simple action, but it was enough to throw Avalon into tears.
She faltered slightly before clearing her throat and speaking.
"I-Is this about the cheating incident because it wasn't my fault. I'm s-sorry." Avalon spoke through tears, a pleading undertone to her voice.
Aaron shook his head, a blank look on his face. His eyebrows furrowed in realisation.
"To be honest, I don't care about that anymore. I don't feel angry about it anymore. I feel.... nothing." He said, ushering her off with a lazy wave of his hand.
My mind automatically went to how he used to feel upon thinking about that incident.
"Aaron caught her sleeping with a guy. It broke him. He loved her so much and when he saw them together, you should've seen him Alexis. It was horrible."
Aaron turned his head away from me and looked to the windows. He was less angrier now.
"She doesn't have to be begging on her knees for forgiveness. It wasn't her fault." He spoke, trying to assure me, but it sounded as if he was trying to reassure himself more.
And, now he was stood here with no regards to the female crying in front of him.
Avalon scowled yet again. She looked as though she was going to say more to Aaron, but her gaze settled on me. At this, her face hardened and the tears on her face, seemingly, evaporated. She looked at me with nothing but pure hatred and I wondered deeply on why I deserved such a look.
"I hope you're happy, Alexis. You took away everything I ever cared about." She said firmly, her voice as venomous as a snake bite.
I folded my arms at this, looking her straight in the eyes as I spoke.
"No, you dropped everything you ever cared about, on the cold hard floor and I was the one to pick it up." I corrected her, an authoritative tone in my voice.
I felt confident for once. I was always bullied by females like herself and I always tolerated it. But, now I could see that ignoring them did not make it better or make me any happier. I could protect myself and stand up for what I believed in. They were wrong and I was right, so I had nothing to be afraid of.
I smiled when another scowl spread across her face.
Can this girl do anything, but scowl?
She moved closer hauntingly and I saw Aaron move slightly closer as well, just in case things were to turn physical. Fortunately, I was never a physical type of girl. I had never gotten into a physical brawl of any sort and I would be glad to keep it that way.
I smiled mockingly before speaking.
"Are you angry because I'm not scared of you or because your little blanket-ripping plan didn't go the way you wanted it to?" I spat out sweetly, my voice riddled with anger.
I was about to speak again but, before I could process anything, Avalon pounced at me like a viscious predator. I closed my eyes waiting for the pain that her violence would bring, but nothing came. I opened my eyes to see Aaron standing, protectively, by my side and Avalon held tightly in Justin's grasp. She looked up at him in shock and he looked back with a cold glare.
Justin's voice came out both tired and cruel as he spoke.
"That's enough now. There's only so much Avalon drama I could tolerate." He said harshly. He let go of her quite quickly after that as though he was a vegan and she was a 5ft3 sized steak.
Any normal person would have stopped talking at this point, but Avalon was not normal. She glared at him with the intensity of a burning sun.
"You too, Justin? Is that how you're all going to treat me because of single accident?" She spat out, folding her arms.
Justin's face showed no emotion. His grey eyes looked at her, his stare cold and calculated.
"Don't tempt me, Avalon." Is all he said and my eyebrows furrowed in confusion at his words.
Tempt him to do what?
I turned to look at Aaron who also looked confused. So, it wasn't just me left out of the loop. Danny also looked confused, but I couldn't tell whether he was confused at Justin's statement or the concept of life in general.
Probably the latter.
Avalon smiled smugly, shrugging her shoulders.
"Try me." She dared threateningly, looking Justin dead in the eyes.
She probably thought Justin was throwing empty threats, but all of us knew Justin's habits. He was a man of his words.
So, unsurprisingly, he nodded at her words.
"Fine." He said simply, before grabbing her by the arm and bringing her closer towards Aaron who merely looked on, confusion apparent on his face. Justin looked at Aaron, an apologetic look on his face as he spoke.
"I need to tell you something. Something I should have told you before."

Story about a man who trusts and loves his girlfriend. Basic premise is that your girlfriend is leaving on a trip and wants you to take part in some mysterious course while she's gone. Figuring out what the course is about is a big part of the story. Mostly the story will be focused on dialogue and thoughts. One of my goals is for there to not be any potentially interesting conversations that are skipped past, many times I've been reading some story and hated it when some really interesting conversation is just summed up without going into enough detail.
