"No way. No freaking way am I gonna go like this. Uh-uh. Not at all," I replied, shaking my head vigorously, as I looked at myself in the mirror.
My hair were blow-dried straight. I had on a thin sweater with a 'YAY' written in cursive that fell off my left shoulder along with blue denim shorts and block-heeled Black boots.
The sweater or the boots weren't a problem. The shorts were. They had my legs on full display.
"I-I can't. People will stare." I said, tugging them down.
"You can and you will. So what if they stare? They're gonna be left dumbstruck once they catch a glimpse of your sexy legs," Sam encouraged.
"My legs are not sexy," I exclaimed, turning red. "And Candy will behead me if I go without his jersey."
She rolled her eyes and lightly dabbed her makeup brush on my cheeks.
She had put a light blush on my cheeks so give them colour and accentuated my eyes with liner and mascara. My lips were painted in a light pink colour.
"FYI, the competitions in the evening. So you can wear his jersey by that time. Do you really want to roam around in his jersey all day and attract Shelley's attention?"
I shuddered as I mentally prepared myself for Shelley's reaction for wearing Aaron's jersey. She was going to want to de-capacitate me since she still wasn't accepting her breakup.
According to what I'd heard, she was telling everyone that Aaron was having some pity on my dear self and saving me from humiliation by accepting my "made-up" best friend act.
Cue the exaggerated roll of eyes. Yeah, sure.
"Okay. Let's go. We've got some jaw dropping to witness," Sam blubbered excitedly.
She attempted to pull me along when an idea struck me.
I pulled her back with a smirk on my face. "Sure. But I won't be the only one to make the boys gape."
She eyes my devious look and hesitated before speaking. "What do you mean?"
"Let's just do more work and less talking." I said, making her sit on my previous position, in front of the mirror.
Here we go.
****
"What? I'm NOT going like this." Sam shrieked once I played my part of dress up.
I'd dressed her up in a light grey dress that reached somewhere where my shirts did. Her makeup was light but made her eyes pop.
Her auburn hair were in a messy pony tail with her bangs out. She looked hot.
"Nuh-uh. You want me to go like this," I gestured to my clothes," then you gotta go like that."
"But I-," she tried.
"Oh look! It's time for school. Let's go or we'll be late!" I cut her off and pulled her towards the door.
"Hey girls, I heard some com- oh!" My mom stopped mid-way.
She eyes us up and down before squealing. "Oh my goodness. You both look so beautiful!"
I laughed. "Thanks mom."
"Go make some eyes pop out, you two!"
I choked. What?
"Uh...okay. Sure, bye," I said awkwardly. Make some eyes pop out? Not a good image.
I quickly pulled Sam with me, before dad saw me. Let's just say, if that happened, I would not be able to reach school on time. Or at all, depending upon his mood.
It wasn't as if my dad was against wearing shorts and dresses. It's just that he didn't get a chance to give his li'l girl the 'talk' which he might start giving now.

Embarrassing as hell.
"Get in. Let's go," Sam said, bringing me out of the thought of getting the 'talk' later on.
"Yeah. Let's go."
***
"You ready for this?" Sam asked, nervously tapping the steering wheel as we sat in her car, parked in the school lot.
"Let's do this shit," I answered, suddenly feeling badass. I pictured me and Sam getting out, looking total badasses and making everyone stop in their tracks to see us.
Just like the movies, where the boys would be lowering their glasses to check us out and girls would be making them face the other way round. And we would oh-so confidently stride inside the school.
But my life was far, far away from anything fictional. Which is why, when we got off, no one even spared us a glance.
So much for feeling badass.
Holding my head high (like my inner dignity hadn't been shattered by the movie-like expectations), I shut the door, acting all cool and calm.
"Let's go, Sammy," I spoke and took a few steps forward.
I noticed Sam not following me, which made me turn around and give her a questioning look.
"You forgot your bag," she gestured to the passenger seat where my bad lay.
I groaned. This wasn't supposed to happen.
I stalked back to the seat and pulled my bag before slamming the door.
"Let's just go now," I slumped and dragged myself along a laughing Sam.
We both walked side by side, with me occasionally trying to pull down my shorts.
"Stop doing that. It looks weird," Sam whispered.
"Well, it's your fault. Who asked you to make me wear them?" I whispered back.
It was now, after my badass-ness had worn off, that I was feeling the reality. The reality of wearing shorts. To school.
I felt as if everyone was scrutinising me. Or more specifically my legs. It was so uncomfortable.
"Stop fidgeting. We're entering the school building and if you don't want to make fun of yourself, stop jumping and pulling your clothes," Sam chastised.
"Fine. I'll try," I said and occupied my hands by holding both of the straps of my bag.
We both entered the building and started our way towards our lockers.
Everyone in the hallways were busy in their own little world, which made me relax a bit. At least no one was judging.
I took a few steps and in a split second I noticed a banana peel right in front. I jumped away just in time but before I could warn Sam, she was already falling.
"SAM!" I shrieked and tried to catch hold of her and I did. Just on time, before she could put her modestly on display.
I pulled her back from her arm and she managed to keep her balance.
"Looks like you and bananas are meant for each other, Banana Girl," I remarked, laughing at her wide-eyes face.
"Shut up," she grumbled.
I was ready to proceed towards my locker when I noticed everyone looking at us.
My eyes widened as I realised that our little mishap had attracted everyone's attention.
I meant ally groaned. Why, oh why?
I quickly grabbed Sam's arm and dragged her towards our lockers, before creating any drama.
I felt someone staring so I turned around and saw a group of guys staring at us. Actually they weren't staring, they looked like they wanted to gobble us up. Ew.
"Ugh. I feel like pulling their eyes out of their sockets with the kind of looks they're giving us," I told Sam who turned to look at them.

"Hold on. They're going to get an earful from me," Sam spoke and started her way to those hungry looking hyenas.
"What? NO!" I tried to pull Sam back, but she wasn't having any of it. In fact she nearly dragged me with her. What did she even eat?
Those wild creatures saw us approaching and the blondie in the middle straightened up and smirked at his friends.
Was he blind? Could he not see the death glares Sam was sending his way?
"Sam, let's just back away," I whispered but she ignored me. I groaned as we stopped in front of them.
"Why the hell are you staring at us?" She asked and I face-palmed.
"Maybe to get you to notice us. And I can see it's working," Blondie said, while his friends howled.
"Listen here asshole, my friend and I are getting pissed off and she literally wanted to gauge your eyes out with the looks you've been giving us so it's better that you keep your eyes to yo-hey! My eyes are up here!," she snapped as the Blondie's eyes travelled down a bit.
"Hey, we're just trying to have some fun alright? So why don't you and your friend join us?"
I snorted out loud. Apparently it was too loud since all of the heads snapped towards me.
Small jitters went up my spine as I became the centre of attention. Attention.
Yes I wasn't as scared of being in the spotlight but hey, I was human. Meaning, I wasn't going to be fearless just because I went up on stage once.
The Blondie smirked at me. "Are you saying that you don't want this sexy piece of meat?" He said gesturing to his torso which clearly didn't support any sort of chiseled structure to die for.
The ego of the blondie made me forget all about attention.
I scoffed. "Yeah. Okay, if you're sexy, then I own a llama named Rudolph that poops rainbow cupcakes and farts roses."
The blondie looked at me as if I'd just spoken in alien language. "What?"
"Exactly."
I heard Sam trying to muffle her laughter.
"Let's go Sammy. He has a lot to figure out yet," I said and with a final glance at his still confused face, I pulled Sam with me to our class.
Once we were out of hearing range, Sam broke out into laughter. "That. Was. Epic!"
I grinned at her as she gasped for breath.
The warning bell echoed in the hallway as we hurried towards our class. "Come on. I really don't feel like getting late."

Tap.
Tap.

"Stop it!" Sam whisper yelled as I tapped my pen on the desk. I could tell my the daggers she sent my way that she was very annoyed.
But I couldn't help it. I was annoyed too. It was the fourth period going on and I was yet to see Candy.
Where in the world was he? I wanted to see his reaction to me wearing shorts.
Tap
Tap
"I swear I will break that pencil of yours of you don't stop that," Sam threatened and rolled my eyes.
Letting out another annoyed groan, I discreetly took out my phone to see if I had any text from Candy.
None.
I was about to put the phone back inside when it suddenly vibrated. A smile spread across my face when I saw that it was from Candy.
💩
My eyes widened as a blush crept over my face. He did he know?
Not that I was missing him. At least not that much.
Before I could reply, another message popped up.
💩
At this I turned a deeper shade of red and my head snapped up. He was here somewhere.
And how did he know that I'd been looking for him all day?
Uh-just to see his reaction. Yeah. Only for that.
I ran my eyes around the class, where mostly people were slapping or doodling. He wasn't in here. I tried to stretch myself as far as I could go to take a peek outside the door.
And there stood Candy, in all his gorg- stupid glory, grinning like an idiot. When he saw me awkwardly trying to look out the door, he winked.
He winked.
My eyes widened and I fell off the chair and landed on the floor with a huge 'thump'.
At this, everyone (who was awake) turned to look at me.
The teacher stopped teaching to look at me too. Great.
Wasn't the morning embarrassment enough?
"Kindly pay attention to what's being taught Ms. Bent than gazing out," The teacher scolded.
I immediately got up and sat back muttering a low,"Sorry Sir."
Before the teacher could respond, the devil re-incarnated spoke up.
"I thinks it's okay sir, after all she will be stuffing her mouth with McDonalds after school with nothing else to do. Isn't this your future plan, Alyssa?" Shelley sneered.
The class started laughing.
Did I forget to mention that she was in my class? Probably.
I gritted my teeth in annoyance. "Obviously Shelley. I'll make sure to stuff my mouth with McDonalds where you'll be waiting tables."
The whole class roared in laughter at that while Shelley just grew red.
"You little bitch!"
I rolled my eyes. "That's really original."
"You think that just because Aary baby took your pathetic side on stage, that means that he'll be by your side? He is still mine," she sneered.
By now the whole class had gone silent. Even the teacher was watching us.
Everyone's attention was on me but it didn't faze me much because the bitch was talking about my best friend.
"He is not yours or anybody's. He not a materialistic thing that you can own," I scowled.
"You need to get in your pathetic head that he will never choose you over me once he gets a doze of my lips."
I fake-gagged. "Oh yeah? So why did he give his jersey to me and not you?"
At this, her eyes widened in anger. "What? You bitch! You must've stolen his jersey." She nearly leapt at me.
"Yeah sure. And I h-," before I could finish, the teacher came in and interrupted.
"Ladies. Give it a rest and sort it out later. Okay?"
We both 'hmphed' and sat down grudgingly.
"See you in the field Bent," she spoke with a sinister smile.
I just clenched my jaw. I wasn't going to back off. She wasn't about to smudge me under her giant-ass foot. And I was going to make sure of that.
She was talking shit about my best friend. And if she wanted a fight, I was going to give her a war.
"Bring it on, Montez!"
