《The Invisible Best Friends》Chapter 4 : A New Friend

TRRRRIIINNNGG!!

My annoying alarm clock went off.

I forced open my eyelids and was blinded by the sunlight pouring through my window. I lazily got up and greeted the morning sunshine. I stretched my arms and legs slowly, as if this was a movie. I opened my window and smiled at the sound of the birds. The wind swept by me creating a hush sound. Everything seemed to be in slow motion and I stood there for a while admiring nature, that is until I saw my clock again which showed that I had only 20 minutes to get ready.

That just broke my freaking movie moment and I rushed to the washroom for a shower. I hurriedly brushed my teeth and got ready. I wore a pair of black jeans and a white collared top. I pulled my hair into a tight ponytail and rushed downstairs.

"Good morning Honey" My mom greeted me along with a delicious smell of my favourite pancakes.

"Morning Mum. Is that what I think that is?" I said placing my bag in the chair and proceeding towards the kitchen.

"Yup" She smiled and I went into the kitchen only to meet a sight that could give me a heart attack.

"MOM!" I shouted as I ran towards the person eating MY pancakes.

"What happened dear?" Mom rushed in.

"What the hell is Candy doing by eating MY pancakes? I repeat, MY pancakes?" I said snatching the left over pancaked from him.

"Back with the nicknames, I see" Mom chuckled.

"Mom. Don'ty try to change the subject" I glared at Aaron, who now wore a cute pout on his face.

Cute? What the hell?

Pancake thieves are NOT cute!

"That is no way to treat your ride to school, Muffin" Aaron folded his arms, still pouting like a three-year old.

Aww. I just wanted to go pinch his cheeks. And it took me all of my will power to not to do that.

"What ride to school? Kinsy takes me to school every morning"

"Um yeah, about that. Kinsy called to say that she had to go to school early so she couldn't give you a ride to school so I called Aaron" my mother simply replied. What?!

If anyone saw me with Aaron, hell could break loose. But of course, mom didn't know that.

"Mom, can dad drop me?"

"Sorry honey, he already left." Well, shit.

"I could take the bus"

"The bus already left, Muffin" Aaron smirked," Now let's go before we get late" he grabbed my arm and dragged me out of my house.

"Are you crazy? What if others saw us together?" I asked getting into his car reluctantly.

"What I don't understand is that why you hate attention so much. And don't give me those three stupid reasons you give all the time"

Well, he knows me way too well.

"Yeah. I know you too well"

Wait. Can he read minds?

"No, Muffin. I cannot read minds" He chuckled.

How did he know what I was thinking?

"The answer is, that you are too easy to read in these kind of situations"

No, I'm n--

"Yes you are. Now stop that. We've reached school"

I looked out to see the backside of the school.

"I know you hate attention so I pulled up in the backside. Now go before you get late" He said stopping the car.

Awww. I love this idiot!

"Yeah, yeah. I love you too. Now go before you spoil your perfect little record"

I didn't even ask him how he knew that. Instead, I went to the driver's side and gave him a huge hug. He hugged me back.

"I just wish that we could be best friends in front of everybody and not pretend to hate each other" He sighed.

I ruffled his brown hair and whispered " I'm sorry"

"Hey, now you just made me hate you" He said pointing towards his so-called precious hair. It could've sounded more real if he wasn't trying hard to hide his smile.

I then rushed into the school building waving him goodbye.

"I can't get late. I can't get late. I can't get late" I muttered heading towards my English class.

I reached the door as the bell rang. Luckily, the teacher hadn't come.

"Phew!" I regained my breath and went towards my seat which was in the middle. Not too far, not too near.

After a few minutes, our teacher Ms Ney came inside along with a girl with auburn hair.

Her actual name wasn't Ms. Ney. It was Barney, but she insisted that we called he Ms. Ney, and I have no doubt as to why she wanted us not to call her by her original name.

"Good morning class, here we have a new comer Samantha Beary" She pointed towards the girl with auburn hair. She waved and greeted the class.

She gave her introduction while I just drew doodles on my notebook while thinking about yesterday when Kinsy had come home. Was I that sociably awkward? I mean even I could be friends with guys. Then why did she--

"...next to Alyssa Bent" I jerked up at the sound of my name.

"Huh?" I looked around to see everyone looking at me. Ugh! Please NO!

"Is it okay for you Miss Bent?" Ms. Ney asked diverting my attention.

Okay for what? What is she asking me? I wondered. But since I didn't want to sound stupid, I replied "Yeah, sure"

"That's great! You can now go and sit with her"

The auburn haired girl came and sat down beside me.

"Now let's begin our lecture and no talking" Ms Ney started.

Ms Ney was a good teacher but could really get on your nerves if you didn't listen to her.

So I simply took my notebook and wrote :

I watched as she scribbled something and passed it back to me.

I smiled at her and scribbled back.

When she read it, her eyes widened.

"How did you know?" she whispered.

"Uh, you kind of made a face when Miss Ney said 'Beary'. So I just figured" I whispered back.

She scribbled something and passed it to me.

I giggled at her reply.

Sam was good. She was a sweet and a funny person. I learnt that she had come here from the other end of the country. She was an only child and her parents were doctors. She had just shifted a few days back.

As the bell rung, we both made our way outside, towards our lockers. Her locker was right beside mine, which was no surprise since both our last names started with a B.

"So you didn't hear Ms. Ney, did you?" She giggled.

I gave her a sheepish grin in return.

"Haha. I knew it. She asked you to be my guide in school and my seatmate, that is, if it is okay with you" She had this hopeful expression in her eyes which I couldn't say no to.

So I just smiled in return. "Ofcourse. I could actually use another friend"

She hugged me and muttered a thanks.

"I actually didn't like the expression of other people when Ms. Ney introduced me, anyway"

I laughed. I think I just made a new friend.

And I had a feeling that we would be friends for a long time.
