I don't remember. I started it WAAYYYYY back in high school. I was reading a lot of Dragonlance books at the time, as well as The Sword of Shanara, and 80's-ish fantasy books. I think those all managed to seep in a little. In the twenty years it has taken to write it, my influences have changed, but I can still detect those books in its DNA.

It is an epic fantasy, and in any epic fantasy, the world building is the hardest part. Making it believable, making it identifiable, making it consistent. All of those things took up a lot of writing time.

I don't know if I have ever written something so long or involved. Being able to complete a project of that magnitude gave me a great sense of accomplishment.

It's kind of funny--Shadows is the book I am proudest of so far, for sheer writing, but it hasn't had too many readers. There are reasons for that (Wattpad demographics), but I do hope it finds an audience.

Supposedly, it'll start a seven-book series. That being said, it stands as a complete story on its own.

6

It's a book filled with big ideas about life and meaning, and I'd hope that people leave it thinking about those things.

Keep going. If you show up, the muse will show up. Put the work in, and you will be rewarded with something you're proud of, eventually.

I have four main characters, and they all have something of me in them. The cynicism, naivete, anger, excitement, quest for meaning--I have been driven by all of those at different ages.

One of the things I love about it is that, while it is long, it cuts out the fat from what people traditionally think of as epic fantasy. It comes in around 404 pages, and if George R.R. Martin was writing it, it would probably be twice that long. But my training as a writer taught me to be very economical with language. Killing my darlings is something I totally stand by.

Only about 150 or so! The question is, will I ever get around to them
