Deadly Pretenders is set at a convention for horror and sci-fi lovers. I work in the theatre and film industry and the setting at a big event and a main character being an actor seemed like a nice way to tie in my expertise and experience into a story.

The antagonists plan. They might be mysterious, but I still need to know where they are at all times.

3

The characters have gone through a lot of emotional baggage, so there's an extra element to what they have to go through now and I like exploring psychological effects of trauma.

4

People appreciate the characters more than anything, especially the way what they think differs from what they say and how they cope with pretending to be normal while struggling inside.

Standalone. Sometimes there's only so much you can put characters through.

6

A sense of dread? An understanding of the ways different people process the same events?

7

An imperfect finished chapter is better than an imaginary perfect one.

Maybe more than anything a sense of humor. One of the most difficult things to write is a sense of humor that goes outside of your own, so I think all my characters have to borrow some of it from me. Everything else is an experiment in exploration.

9

Characters, characters, characters. A fun setting. Murder at a Comicon, Youtubers and actors trying to find a killer. That's the hope.
