《Broken-(A Loki Fanfic)》Chapter Five

I landed back in the courtyard that I left, except now, it was dark out. I looked around and saw that most of the debris have been either cleaned up or roped off. I still saw students inside so I headed back to my room.

I walked through the cafeteria. It was unusually silent. There were people sitting at tables but not one said a word. They were afraid.

As I walked down the hall, I heard footsteps behind me.

"Hey!" I turned around to see the girl I helped earlier. She stopped in front of me and breathed hard. "Hey. I just wanted to thank you for earlier. You saved my life." She extended her hand to me. "I'm Diana."

"Lilith. Nice to meet you." After a moment of awkward silence, she hugged me.

"Thank you so much," she said, her voice cracking. She was on the verge of tears. "If it weren't for you, I probably would have died."

"Hey, it's okay." She stepped back.

"I'm sorry, you were probably busy. I guess I should go now."

"No, no. It's okay. Thanks for coming to see me. Now I know you're alright. It was nice to meet you, Diana." She smiled and left with a wave.

I walked into my room to see Elisa yelling angrily at her phone.

"What do you mean you don't see her?! She's got to be—Lilith! She's right here. Bye!" She rushed over to me and squeezed all the air out of my lungs. "Where the hell were you? I've been calling you all night. Don't ever do this again, do you understand me?"

"Yes," I wheezed. "Can you let go now?"

"No." She squeezed me more, and I almost felt myself turning purple. She finally released me, and I inhaled a large amount of air.

"Thanks." I met her gaze and her face was stained with the trails of tears. "I'm sorry. I didn't think about you being worried about me."

"Where were you? I searched everywhere. I asked everyone. Nobody knew. What happened to you?"

"I...I um..." I couldn't tell her the truth. I didn't know if that was against Valkyrie rules or anything. Not to mention the fact that she wouldn't believe me.

"You can tell me, Lil. It's okay."

"It's a little weird. Just bear with me."

"Okay..."

"I'm a Valkyrie," I said quietly.

"What?" I looked up at her.

"I said I'm a Valkyrie."

"What does that mean?"

"You know, a Valkyrie. From Norse mythology and all that. The warriors who reap souls and take them to Valhalla."

"Are you fucking with me? Do you think this is a joke?"

"No! I would never joke about something like this."

"You're crazy. And I feel even crazier because I want to believe you."

"I can prove it, I think."

"Please, go ahead." I backed up and motioned for her to do the same. I took off my hoodie and imagined that feeling when I spread my wings. I slowly expanded them, allowing Elisa to see them. Her jaw hung open and she fell onto her bed. "What the hell are those?"

"Wings."

"Why?"

"I told you, I'm a Valkyrie."

"They're gorgeous."

"You think?" She nodded quickly and stood up.

"So what do you do?" I thought a moment before answering.

"So far, not much. It only happened a few days ago. I've been training and learning how to fly. I have to go to Asgard tomorrow to train with Thor."

"Thor? Like, the Avenger Thor?" I nodded. "You have to let me meet him! He's so hot!" I laughed before responding.

"I can't. Not without permission. I'll try to get him to meet you at some point though."

"You'd better." I folded my wings and sat on my bed. "I'd love to hear more about this, but you'd better get some rest if you have to train tomorrow. Goodnight, Lilith," she said as she turned off the light.

"Goodnight."

"That was great!" Alma told me as i managed to stick my landing. "Yer a quick learner. You ready to go really fast?" I nodded excitedly. "Alrighty then. Come on."

Alma walked me through the basics of flying fast. She showed me how to hold my body and my wings in order to achieve different speeds. After a few more hours of practice, I had flying in the bag.

"Alright, you need a break. You have to train with Thor soon."

"Yeah, okay." We sat down and caught our breath.

"On the bright side, yer next lesson is learning how to fight in the air. We'll work on that later." She handed me a container of water. "But before that, I have to teach you how to get here on yer own."

"That's possible?" She nodded. "I thought you had to go through the Bifrost."

"Valkyrie have their own inter-dimensional pathways to get from realm to realm. I just have to show you how to find 'em. Most Valkyries don't even get to use the Bifrost. We just transport them in their sleep until they learn how to get here."

"Huh."

After a few more minutes of relaxing, I had to go. I spread my wings and took off from the ground. I flew out of Valhalla and found my way towards the palace. I took in the view from my place high up in the sky. Beautiful. I landed in the courtyard where I saw Thor waiting for me. He had a woman in red and silver armor standing next to him.

"Lady Lilith. I'd like you to meet Lady Sif." She nodded at me, so I did the same. "She will help me train you today."

"So, your weapon of choice is daggers?"

"Yeah, I guess." She gave me a skeptical look. "Is that okay?" I asked nervously.

"I suppose it's fine." I looked over to Thor to see what he thought of her attitude. He was still smiling, but not as wide.

"Lady Sif, what seems to be the matter?" he asked her. She pulled him closer and whispered in his ear.

"If it's too much trouble we don't have to do this," I said.

"Nonsense!" Thor shouted. "There is no problem. Let us begin."

They began by showing be some simple moves. I learned how to properly hold them as well as some basic swings. They also thought me how to deflect different types of weapons. After a while, we moved on to more difficult things. At some point, I began to spar with Sif.

She was good. Hell, she was fantastic. I doubted that I'd ever fight as well as her. I never won against her, but I definitely held out longer than I thought I could.

I hadn't realized it was dark until Thor interrupted us. "I think it is time for us to finish. Lady Lilith must get back to Midgard."

"Alright then," Sif said. "You have done well. You have made great improvement in the few hours you have been here. When can we meet again?"

"Oh, um, I'm not busy next Saturday."

"Then we shall see you in a week." Sif left soon after, leaving me and Thor alone. We were quiet as we put away the extra weapons and training dummies. Then I realized I didn't know how to fly home yet.

"Um, Thor?" He looked towards me. "Do you think you could take me down to the Bifrost again? I mean, I can fly. I just don't want to go alone."

"That's quite alright. I would be glad to take you."

"Thanks." He guided me through the palace until we were back at the familiar front steps. We flew above the rainbow bridge until it stopped. We landed at the door to the dome to be greeted by Heimdall.

"Welcome back," he said with a smile. "Back to Midgard?"

"Yes," I said nervously. Heimdall seemed nice, but also intimidating.

"I shall see you soon, Lady Lilith. Until then." Then I was engulfed in a rainbow beam once more.
