《Star crossed》Chapter 13: Pity

Emma rushed out and hugged Amelia.
'I thought! I thought! Thank god you're fine!" Emma sobbed, clutching Amelia.
"No need to get all worked up. I am still alive," Amelia said, pulling away from Emma's hug.
"We must leave before the town authorities arrive," said Antony
"You informed the town authorities?" asked Amelia.
"I instructed Rame, we might have needed backup in case the rescue failed."
"I don't want anyone to know Amelia was involved. It would ruin her reputation," said Nicholas.
"It is your fault, you marry a riff-raff and I become the one to suffer," said Amelia, to her father.
"Amelia!" started Nicholas angrily.
Emma put a hand on his chest, stopping him.
They all walked outside. The horses Nicholas and Antony rode were grazing nearby.
"I am not riding with Mr. Bennet. What if someone sees me with him?" Amelia said, her nose wrinkled in disgust.
"Don't worry, I am already engaged," he replied, returning the nose-wrinkling.
"That's even worse."
"I can't ride too," added Emma.
"Why not?" asked Nicholas.
"Isn't it obvious?" asked Amelia, before Emma could answer.
"What's obvious?"
"She is pregnant."
Nicholas froze in tracks.
"No need to look like you have been clubbed in the head," scorned his daughter.
Nicholas came out of his daze and asked, "Is it true?"
Again Amelia answered before Emma, she wanted to ruin it for them. "You both were trashing all over the place like a pair of eels, it's hard not to."
Lord Nicholas kissed Emma on her forehead.
Antony and Amelia left silently not wanting to disturb them. Antony wanted to give the couple some alone time after the near-death experience and learning about Emma's pregnancy. Amelia, on the other hand, wanted to leave not wanting to see their affection any longer.

Antony promised to return with a carriage to pick them up. He left the pistol and a horse behind just in case of any emergency. That left Antony and Amelia with a single horse to return.
"As I said, I am not riding with you."
"Fine, as you wish. You could walk all the way back," replied Antony, without a care for her tantrum.
"Or you could be a gentleman, offer me your horse, and run along."
"Amelia, let's establish that I am no gentleman. And in the future, if you want a favour, you say please."
Antony was gentleman enough to walk beside her, but not foolish enough to offer her the horse. He was quite sure that Amelia needed to be taught some manners.
"Why are you being spiteful towards Emma?"
"That is none of your concern."
"Does this make you happy? Being spiteful and lashing out all the time?"
"Yes, immensely."
"Does acting ungentlemanly to me make you happy?" she countered.
"Yes, immensely. I am no saint and you don't deserve my kindness."
They were silent for some time.
"How did you find us?" asked Amelia suddenly.
"I was in the area looking for land to purchase. I met Lord Advent unexpectedly."
"I don't know why you lie. Purchasing land, indeed! And why in the blazes would you be carrying a military grade gun? Like a mere land agent could afford to buy one. Don't take me to be an imbecile."
"Fine, I don't want to tell you. What makes you think that I will tell you the truth just because you asked?"
"I feel sorry for the woman you are going to marry," said Amelia.
Antony chuckled, "You don't have to. I am a perfect honest to Lady Matilda. But in fact..." he stopped.
"In fact, what? Are you going to retort and say that you feel sorry for the man unfortunate enough to marry me?"
"No, I don't feel sorry for the man you will marry one day."
"Why not?" asked Amelia in surprise.
"I feel sorry for you even more."
Amelia glared at Antony before increasing her pace. Nothing had disturbed her more than that last statement. She didn't want anyone to feel sorry for her.

Parallels
Parallels are a constant in life. Our friends' lives often run parallel to ours; we share similar experiences or tastes- perhaps even both. Sometimes, however, opposites attract- and our lives run perpendicular. In that case, we are not attracted by similarities; rather, we are attracted to the differences in others. So, what happens when two parallels are broken apart? What might happen to them? Are they forever doomed to run alongside each other, never seeing one another, never meeting? Or, perhaps, might they be spun about? Could these lines that formerly ran alongside one another meet? Could they possibly be set perpendicular? Any feedback is welcome, so long as it is constructive. Also, you may not use any characters, ideas, places, or what have you that I present here without my explicit permission. A note: This is a story which I began over a year ago, but never got around to finishing- it feels about time to really get it going. Now, there are a couple of things about the story, and myself, that need to be said. First and foremost, there's a slow start, but by the third-fourth chapter things should be speeding up a bit. Secondly, in regards to release speed and/or word count per chapter, I make no promises- my schedule is fairly random, and in regards to word count, I will cut off any chapter at any point that feels appropriate to me- that may include cliffhangers, if necessary. I'm not trying to reach a specific word count, I am trying to create a cohesive story, with pseudo-appropriate chapter breaks. This means I will also not rush a half-baked release for the sake of getting a release out. Thirdly, I will make any edits, anywhere in the story and at any time, that strike me as necessary- typically being wording and/or formatting changes, but I may also decide to change major plot points- in that case I would put a notification in the next chapter released. Finally, and most importantly, I am a Christian; this story is intended to at least moderately reflect those values. So, if you particularly dislike any of these things, feel free to look elsewhere, and don't let the door hit you on the way out. God bless, friends.

The Hunt
Cecily's blade swung, hitting its mark as always. The man's arm fell to the cold grass of the prison with a familiar thud. He let out a blood curdling scream. A warning to the rest. Stay away, the Hunter is here. That's the name they'd given her, the Hunter. After she cut off the man who tried to rape hers masculinity, they stayed away. She'd made it clear anyone who tried to touch her would be hunted and slaughtered. Cecily kneeled down, pushing the man's face into the dirt so she could use his back as a seat while she trifled through his belongings. "You're hurting my ears," she told him, no remorse in her voice. "Quiet down before I really do kill you."The man but his lip, well aware that she wasn't lying. Sobs shook him, making for an uncomfortable seat. She, however, didn't particularly feel the beed to kill him. It happened, not often, but it did. "Oh, hush up," she hissed, taking out a bag of rations with her metal hand, "it doesn't hurt that bad."With her good, human hand, she dropped the plastic bag of food into her own bag. She pushed up, off the man back. As she was about to walk away, bag slung over her shoulder, brushing against her autumn colored braid, she turned back to him. "Consider yourself lucky," she said, no hatred in her voice, there never was. "Consider yourself lucky that you didn't do anything stupid. And even luckier if one of the scum bagged criminals in here feel a little light in their hearts and help you. Consider yourself luckier if you die there."With that, her old black and white Nike sneakers carried her off into the brush of the huge prison.
