《Worth The Risk》Emma's Friend

The next week came and Emma had finally built up enough courage to ask Cyn out. Emma and Delilah talked about their limits and expectations ad nauseam, but it was necessary for this next step. They both just wanted the other to be comfortable and happy. It was decided that Emma would build her own relationship with Cyn just so they could feel each other out a little more and get to know each other. From there, depending on everyone's comfort level, they would decide which way to go. That is, this even worked out. Who knows if they would even get that far.

Emma had been sitting in her car outside of the restaurant, quietly gathering her nerve. Now she felt bad for laughing at Delilah. Asking women out is kind of daunting. They're just so fucking pretty. Emma threw her head back onto the headrest when suddenly her passenger door opened. It startled her as a body filled the seat next to her.

"Jesus, Juan. You scared the hell out of me." Emma said grabbing her chest. She was already nervous. That was enough to push her into a heart attack.

He laughed hard and deep. "You should keep your doors locked, Em. I could tell you some horror stories." Juan said grinning. He spotted Emma's car and just wanted to say hi and also teach her a valuable lesson.

"Thanks. I'll remember that for next time." Emma finally caught her breath. "What are you doing here? Delilah didn't mention you were coming."

"She doesn't know!" Juan said smiling. He was planning on surprising her. "I heard the good news, eh?" Juan was too proud to keep his joy hidden. Emma was just as smart and beautiful as his Delilah. She was a good one. "Is it too soon to start calling you my daughter?"

"A little." Emma said laughing. She was happy Juan already loved her so much and approved of her dating his daughter. She knew how much he loved her. If he was this happy that meant he thought she was good enough. Which was one less thing to worry about.

"I should go. Miguel said she would be here soon." He leaned over and kissed the top of Emma's head. "Love you. Behave."

"Love you too." Emma smiled as Juan got out of the car and left her alone again. She watched him disappear in her rear view mirror. She couldn't imagine Juan hurting anyone. He was such a loving guy and devoted father. Emma sighed. It was now or never. She got out of her car and went inside.

When Emma walked inside she was greeted by Cyn. Except Cyn was looking down at her notepad. The restaurant was very busy. "Hi, welcome to the Green..." Cyn finally looked up. She smiled genuinely. "Hi, Emma. I don't think Delilah is here."

"Hey. No I'm not here for her." Emma said.

"Oh. Has she corrupted you?" Cyn laughed. "Do you want a table?"

"No. What time do you get off? I want to take you out." Emma just put it out there. It felt better out in the open than thumping around in her chest.

Cyn's mouth opened then it closed. She put her notepad in her apron. "You what?" She didn't understand what was happening.

"Want to take you out." Emma repeated. "For dinner or it could be lunch. It doesn't have to be tonight."

Cyn thought for a moment. This must be a joke. "Emma, stop. Delilah would kill me." She laughed.

"I'm serious and she knows. It's okay." Emma said. "I just want to get to know you better."

Cyn started to answer but Delilah walked through the door with Juan and Miguel. Seeing her papa was a pleasant surprise for Delilah. They were going to a museum but first she needed her charger from her office. When she saw Emma talking to Cyn, a small sliver of jealousy cut its way through her heart. Then it occurred to her, she wasn't really sure which woman she was jealous of.

"Hi, Cyn. Hey, baby." Delilah said before kissing Emma on the cheek.

Even though Emma said Delilah knew, Cyn felt like she was doing something she wasn't supposed to by even considering going out with Em. She instantly became nervous. "H-hi Miss Daniels." She stammered.

"Are you okay, Cyn?" Delilah asked. She didn't look well.

"Uh yes. Table for three? Four?" She asked looking from Delilah to Emma.

"Oh no. I just have to grab something from my office." Delilah said. As she walked away she looked back at Emma and gave her a questioning look. She wondered if it was going smoothly. Emma just rolled her eyes and shooed her away. Delilah's presence only made both women more nervous. Cyn more than Emma though.

"Emma, who is your friend?" Juan asked looking at Cyn.

"This is Cynthia." Emma said. "Cynthia this is Mr. Ramirez, Delilah's father."

"Oh! Pleasure to meet you, Sir. I've heard a lot about you." Cyn smiled up at him. She wondered if Delilah's mom was tall too or if she just inherited that from Mr Ramirez.

"Nice to meet you too, Cynthia. Any friend of Emma is a friend of mine. She's already like a daughter to me." Juan smiled as he spoke. "Here she is." Juan said as Delilah approached them. "Emma, are you going to be joining us?" He asked.

"No, papa. She has something to take care of." Delilah answered for her.

Juan nodded. "Okay then. Later." He hugged Emma and smiled at Cyn one more time.

"I love you." Delilah said to Emma.

"I love you too." Emma kissed her on the lips.

Delilah was not expecting her to do that in front of the other woman she was asking out and especially not in front of her father. She was an adult, obviously, but that felt like a new level of adulthood she'd never encountered. The three of them left Cyn and Emma alone again.

"So?" Emma asked.

"Are you sure? I don't want to get in trouble!" Cyn whined. Then she realized how silly that must of sounded. "I mean, I don't want to cause trouble."

"I swear it's fine, Cyn." Emma assured her. "If you want I can call her and ask just so you can hear her say it."

Cyn laughed. "No. I believe you. Yes. I would love to go out with you. Tonight?"

Emma smiled. "Yes. Is seven okay?"

"That's perfect. Is Delilah going to be there?"

"No. Just you and I." Emma looked around. "Can I see your notepad?" She asked. Cyn handed her the pen and pad and Emma wrote down her number and gave it back. "Just call me when you get off and I'll tell you where."

"Okay." Cyn didn't try to hide the widening smile on her face.

"Okay. See you then." Emma said.

"See ya." Cyn gave her a small wave.

Emma walked back to her car feeling a hundred percent better than when she first walked in. Cyn said yes. So that was a good start. When she got inside of her car, she checked her phone. She had a text from Delilah. It said "you're cute when you're nervous." Emma laughed and sent her back the middle finger emoji. They were really doing this. She didn't think a bet would lead her life to this, but she was ready to see what the future held.
