《Red Whispers || Wanda Maximoff X Reader》Chapter 39 || Vienna

The jet ride to Vienna is nearly silent. Tony and Rhodey are speaking in silence while Vision and I sit ignoring one another. Nat said she was meeting us but had to handle something first. My guess is that she went to see Steve for Peggy's funeral. I'm not an idiot.

"Wanda is alright with you signing the Accords?"

I look up at the glowstick and hold back my scowl, forcing out words.

"Yeah, why?"

His head tilts in curiosity, taking in my body language. It causes me to shift uncomfortably, not enjoying the idea of Vision looking at me or being within 5 feet of me to begin with.

"It's just that...the Accords goes against everything she believes in. They remind her of being at Hydra, listening to orders, otherwise staying locked up in a cell until a mission is granted to her. You don't feel the same? Given your past...circumstances."

Well, fuck.

I didn't even think of it like that. The Accords, now that he put the idea in my head, do somewhat remind me of Hydra...But it's not the same. This is for safety, this is for protection of other people. Wanda sees that, right? We aren't perfect, signing this will protect everyone else. We can't keep being selfish and thinking we can roam wherever we want, fighting off these villains as if we are in some action movie or something. It's just unrealistic.

"I can sense your confusion, Y/N. Allow me to assure you that you are on the right side of things."

His voice is gentle, reassuring, and for the first time ever, doesn't make me want to blast him to Asgard.

He's right, this is the right side. We destroyed families without even knowing it, all because we are too focused on the mission, not even thinking of anything else that goes into it. Wanda doesn't see that. She made a mistake and of course I don't blame her, but her losing control did hurt and kill a bunch of people. We never think about those possibilities: the loss of control, the emotions that go into this.

One slip up and lives are at stake. She has to see that that needs to be controlled more. Proper precautions need to be taken. We can't just free rein it anymore.

"Right," I say and focus out at the clouds, thinking about what this could mean for Wanda and I.

Earlier was...amazing.

It was our first time together. And it was better than I could've ever imagined. But something about it felt...almost like a goodbye.

It's not goodbye, right? This won't ruin us?

"When stolen Wakandan vibranium was used to make a terrible weapon, we in Wakanda were forced to question our legacy. Those men and women killed in Nigeria, were part of a goodwill mission from a country too long in the shadows. We will not, however, let misfortune drive us back. We will fight to improve the world we wish to join. I am grateful to the Avengers for supporting this initiative. Wakanda is proud to extend its hand in peace."

King T'Chaka is talking until T'Challa shrieks for everyone to get down. I grab Nat as I see the explosion and cover her body with mine, using my powers to form a forcefield around us as parts of the building blow in our direction.

She gasps in shock, staring up at me in horror at what just happened. We look over and see T'Challa over King T'Chaka's body, me running to the ledge to see if I can see anything.

Vision makes his way over to us, helping us stand. I see Tony helping everyone get out as fast as possible.

"Get as many people as you can onto the ground safely. No one gets left behind, understood?" Vision nods and gets to work, Nat is looking around but I grab her.

"You alright?"

"Aren't I always?" She tosses a wink at me, then nods for us to start helping.

By the time we are all outside on the ground, Nat and I check on a few people's wounds, then see T'Challa sitting on a bench, playing with some ring.

We make our way over and sit on a bench a few feet away. Nat speaks first.

"I'm very sorry."

"In my culture death is not the end. It's more of a . . . stepping-off point. You reach out with both hands and Bast and Sekhmet, they lead you into the green veldt where . . . you can run forever."

I look at him in a formation of pure respect, he talks so beautifully, first of all. I mean seriously, if I wasn't gay and obsessed with Wanda, I'd fall in love with this man right here. But I keep in the sarcasm for now and just smile gently at him.

"That sounds very peaceful."

He meets my eyes, then his features harden as he looks down, "My father thought so...I am not my father." He slides the ring on his finger, jaw set tightly.

I figure he's wanting to go after Bucky.

At least, that is who the news reporters have said they spotted as a suspect. That tells me that they got to him, he's the Winter Soldier right now. Something I know all too well, not being able to control it. Much as I want to help Bucky and protect him, I also know what the right thing to do is, and that is to put everyone else first. The world comes first.

"T'Challa. Task force will decide who brings in Barnes."

He stands up briskly, staring down at Nat and I.

"Don't worry Ms. Romanoff...I'll kill him myself."

He walks away and I mumble a "fuck" while Nat just sighs, her phone ringing.

She picks it up and I listen in.

"Yeah?"

"You alright?" Steve. From what I can hear, it sounds like he's close by. I can hear the same sirens on our street through his line...why the hell is he even here?

"Yeah, thanks. We got lucky." Nat glances at me, then looks around, picking up on the idea that Steve is here.

When we make eye contact the light bulb goes off in our heads. He's here for Bucky.

I grab the phone and speak into it, "Steve, I know how much Barnes means to you. I really do. Stay home. You'll only make this worse. For all of us. Please."

"Are you saying you'll arrest me, Y/N?"

Scoffing at his cockiness I go to say "yes" but Nat swipes the phone, "No! No she is not. And I won't either. But someone will. If you interfere, that's how it works."

"If he's this far gone, Nat, I should be the one to bring him in."

"Why?" She asks and all I can hear is "because I'm the one least likely to die trying" before he hangs up.

"Shit," she mumbles and we share a look before I pull out my tracking device Tony gave me. I note that Steve is nearby. Clearly the old man doesn't know enough about modern day technology to remove the tracker on his shield. We walk by police cars and I hear some report but it's in Italian. Then I hear "Steve Rogers" and "James Barnes."

Nat does too and we share a look of panic.

"Shit."

She jogs to the van and quickly wires the information to her own device before we get caught, then we start to make our way to the commotion.

"We gotta call it in," I say when we get closer to Steve.

Nat nods and I call Tony, updating him.

"Already on it kid, Rhodey's on his way. We've got it covered. Just stay out of trouble, alright? Steve and Sam will get what's coming."

"Sam's here too?" I mutter and continue running until Nat slaps me.

"What the hell Romanoff?" I hiss and she sighs, "Can't you turbo speed or something? Let's go."

She jumps on my back and I chuckle, "Oh yeah, I forgot I could do that. Hold on tight." I feel her grip tighten and take off, moving until we reach the end of a tunnel. The archway is collapsing and I notice Bucky running, Steve in tow and some guy in a panther suit.

Sam is in the corner but before Steve can run off with Bucky, I stop in front of them, letting Nat stand at my side. Rhodey descends from the sky, helicopters above and government cars pulling up to surround us all.

"Stand down, now." I hiss, my hands glowing blue as I raise them at Bucky and Steve.

I notice the staleness behind Bucky's gaze, it almost makes me cripple but I keep my posture.

Rhodey joins me, prepared to shoot, along with all of the government agents, military and police.

Steve glares at me, then at Nat who just shifts uncomfortable beside me, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Congrats Cap, you're a criminal." Rhodey says as they arrest Steve, Bucky and Sam.

The panther guy takes off his mask to reveal T'Challa beneath it.

Staring at him in surprise but somewhat impressed, I nod.

"Your highness," I say and Rhodey instructs that he be left alone before we all leave the scene.
