《The Immortal Alpha》Chapter 23

"You What?!" Ana all but shouted. We were seating in the cafeteria eating lunch and her outrageous reactions when ever I told her a bomb caused all the eyes to momentarily land on us. "Stop doing that." I said in a hushed voice. I was beyond imbarrassed. I hated it when all the attention was on me and in everything in my life I avoided it,though sometimes it got hard because of my big mouth. I talked too much.
I had no surgeries to prep for or to perform as for the day. So I spent most of it doing routine check ups with Anastasia by my side.
"How was the sleep?" She was curious and I had brought that on myself. "It was good. " I said and took a bite of my sandwich. She had took the privilege of making me lunch and I had turned down an invitation from Nick to go out on a lunch date. I had agreed on dinner instead at nine the following day.
"As in Good,'we kissed, made love and cuddled' or Good, 'we kissed and cuddled and eventually drifted to sleep'. Which?" She pryed. "None of those. God,Ana!" I remarked in horror and flushed. "Really?" She gave me the 'out with it look'. "We just slept and that was it this time." I said truthfully and that seemed to make her let it go.
"I don't wanna lead myself into my own demise. You know what I mean?" She looked at me apologetically. She felt sorry for me. "Listen sweet heart,if what you have told so far is really true. Then I think you should be with the guy. He seems good enough plus you can't be single forever."
"Says who?"
"Ok,that's below the point. What I want to say is that you should let yourself love that man. I'm pretty sure he feels the same way possibly even more." She sounded pretty sure of herself. "And how would you know?" I questioned her. "I just know. Now give it a try." She said a smile.
The rest of lunch was peaceful as well as the rest of the day.
Ok so I read her mind. It was meant to be a once off thing then but who could blame me. It was more of a suicide mission every time I stopped the urge.
"Who let her in here?" I asked the guy that was incharge of the security. Earlier that day I had received an invitation. A personal invitation to go the Castle. It was a club situated down town. It was known for all the things that kept the youth entertained except for the drugs. They were prohibited.
I had just spotted my mate on the dance floor. She was dancing with some brown haired looser, that was drooling over her. He found every reason to grind her hips with his and it infuriated me to no extent. I wanted to rip his throat and scatter his insides.
"You should serious calm down." Dylan said seating nest to me. "Calm down you say? You're telling me to calm down?" I barked a thunderous growl escaping. "I'll calm down once he is dead." I stormed to the dance floor.
Alpha, they is something wrong with your mother. She needs you.
I would have to kill him later. I walked cool to the back exit of club and quickly shifted into my lycan. I was half way to the pack house when something stopped me in my track. Dylan was closely behind me.

What's wrong?
Dylan asked as he came to a sudden halt a few feet from where I was.
She is in danger.
I was hit by a huge wave of panic. My mother or my mate?
I turned and ran back to the club. To my mate.
"Where is she?" My voice was louder than ever. The place went quite instantly as people cowered away into corners. They number of humans in the club was low. And most of them just stared in horror as others prepped themselves to run for the hills.
"Who?" The manager asked in a shaken state. I growled at him but not loud enough for the humans to hear. He would eventually figure out why.
I followed her scent to the ladies bathroom. They she was with her back against the wall, eyes wide and she was crying.
Crying? Why is she crying? And him. He made her cry.
Her body shifted from the defensive state it was in and she relaxed.
"Get out." I said in my Alpha tone. She did not more. She stood there and witnessed the brutal blows I made to the guy. She watched as I reunited him to his ancestors.
Don't kill him,please don't.
She begged. The words never leaving her lips. Her eyes spoke a lot. She said a lot in her mind but her lips said nothing.
It was disappointed that they wouldn't a family reunion. His ancestors unfortunately had to wait for another time.
"Are you ok?" My voice care out soft and gentle. A contradiction of what was happening inside me. I wanted to kill someone. For someone to pay. "I'm alright." She was still shaken from the experience. I tried listening to Her,hear her thoughts and she said nothing about the crime.
"No one touches my mate except me. " I said in a low voice as she rested her head on my chest. "You don't owe me anything." I said in a soft voice. She was safe with me. I would forever protect her. She was mine to protect and mine to love endlessly and without doubt.
I gave her my coat to cover up as we walked hand in hand out of the bathrooms. She had stopped crying the moment the crowd of people came to sight. I had no plans of staying there any longer than needed. I had to get her cleaned up and she had to rest.
How is mother doing?
I asked father through the mind link. I regretted nothing. Not choosing my own mate over my mother. Yes,The woman brought me to the world but my mate was of utmost importance when it came to all. And I planned on keeping it that way.
Your mother is alright. But why didn't you come?
I had forgotten that they knew nothing of her. That only Dylan and I knew about this.
Something came up.
More important than your mother?
Yes,More important than my own mother. Someone that meant the world to me.
Yes father. I'll tell you about it when the time is right. And please tell mom to take care. I'll be there tomorrow.
Tomorrow?! What do you mean tomorrow? Where are you Nick?
I had to stop the urge to role my eyes. He was doing it again. Treating me like I was a kid. I was 228 years for goodness sake.
I mean I'll be the tomorrow. Bye father.
And that marked the end of my conversation with my father.
We had reached the entrance also used as the front exit of the place. I asked her the one question that had been bugging me. "Do you know that guy." My voice laced with disgust and anger at the thought of him. "Yes." She answered shortly. It felt like it hurt her to think about it and when she started to cry again my heart sank.

I should have been there with her. I should have protected her against that loser. I should never have left her there to experience that in the first place. I should have gone to her the moment I saw, maybe she wouldn't have went through that.
Stop beating yourself up about it.
Dark barked at me.
How can I stop? Huh! Do tell me because right now I'm open to any suggestion.
He kept quite to the point I had thought he was not there anymore. And then he did it. He blocked me,even he didn't know how to deal with it.
I said nothing after that but I still wanted to know more. About that guy. About my next victim, cause if he dared to get even a meter close to Her,I was going to reunite him with his ancestors.
"Sam...he...He is n-not..." Her voice came out in low patches. I had not killed him and all thanks to her. He had to thank her for that. No,I would probably kill him before he even got close enough for her to hear. "Sam." The name came out distasteful on my tongue. "So that's the scum-bag's name." It came out as distasteful as the first one. Sam
You have to dread carefully .
It was a piece of very useful advice for him. I wished for his sake that he became wise and used it. He was human but nothing that would not stop me from killing him if he dared approached my mate.
"He lives." I said and her body relaxed. She released a breath I didn't even notice she was holding. So she cared for his live that much. Most couldn't care any less if they rapist lived or died. But she was not most, she was Scarlett Wilde. My mate.
My arm was holding her around her waist. She looked a lot less like a drunk person and more of a slightly sober one. "Let me take you home. " I said pulling her impossibly closer to me. Her body was warm, her breaths even. She fitted so perfectly into me. She was the missing piece in my puzzle of life. The one that fulfilled me.
"I'll be fine. Ethan can take me. " She reached for something on her side. "Shit!" She blurted out. She had forgotten her purse in the bathrooms. "I forgot my purse my purse in the bathrooms." She said. My hold on her tightened as the thought of her not in my arms played in my head. It was not a good one. "I'll tell someone to get it." I said ad we got to the car.
"Vince?!" She blurted out.
They know each other?
He was her drive to the ritual dumb ass.
It had slipped my mind that they had met before and that too the night my pack was hosting the ritual.
"Miss Wilde, how do you do tonight?"He smiled at her sweetly. While I hated the thought of her smiling at other men and them smiling at her and oogling. I didn't mind it when Vince did it. He was more than my chauffeur ,He was a second father to me. Apart from Dylan,he also knew a few things about me that I would rather they stayed in my closet of skeletons.
A pack member I had sent to get Scarlett's purse came back. He handed it to the lady beside me and she thanked him with a smile. She took out her phone and made a call but it never got answered no matter how many times she tried.
"What are you..." it was one of those moments when you were like walking with someone and they met someone they knew and from then the conversation would begin soon after. The person you were walking soon forgetting about you and the fact that you were going somewhere. "I'll be your driver for the night." Vince said opening the door. "Get in the car." I told her. She looked at me in disbelieve. She had make it clear that she hated being told what to do but till now she was doing pretty good for someone that hated it. "I knew that." She said with a frown. I had my work cut out for me on her. She was stubborn and I had just realized then it was quality about her that I was beginning to love. She got in the car without my help.
"What the hell are you wearing? You didn't wear that to the club did You?" She remarked at the suit I was wearing with horror. "What's wrong with what I'm wearing?" I asked fixing the shirt at the sleeves. I saw nothing wrong with it. It was perfectly fine with me. "Nothing." She said taking out her phone. She was probably checking if that Ethan guy had called but still if So,we would have heard it ring.
"Where are we going?" She gave an expecting look. I was going to give her an answer but first I had to figure something out. She was so relaxed and free. It made me wonder of she had any mental problems. If that was the case then it would have been in the file. The file that that had all her information.
"You don't look..." She cut me off. "Like someone that almost got raped?" She was so blunt and there was no facial expressions when she said that but her voice was care free. I was dumbfounded by the woman that sat next to me. I couldn't think of anything to say for a few second. She had rendered me speechless. "You are..." She cut me off again. Nonetheless I couldn't think of the right word to best describe what I wanted to say. "Care free. I choose to not dwell on things that almost happened. It didn't happen right?" I nodded slightly. "Yah,it didn't. So why should I stop living because of something that did not happen? It doesn't makes any sense in doing it. They is no us in stressing about it anymore. It's now part of my past." She said shrugging her shoulders.
It didn't feel right the way she acted. The way she was. She had to react a little more like she cared. I wanted her to be like that, maybe then it would fell like she was more of a human than a emotionless person. From what I had saw,she was not the person that the file said she was nor what her colleagues said about her.
"Now tell me,where is it exactly we're going? I hope it's somewhere fun." She said in a giddy voice. A very different one compared to the seriousness of the last one.
"My house."
