The mating ritual was just a few days away and with it meant airtight security that I had to provide. And I had a lot of paper work that I had to take care of and the calls coming from the pack Alphas were just outright annoying.
I looked at all the papers scattered on my desk, pack work and some from the companies that I owned. I needed to finalize things concerning the ritual, the mating ritual.
It was helt every eighteen years. This was to help the unmated wolves and lycans find their mates and this time I was hosting it.
The preparations were a pain in the ass,and the ritual was only for a day. The decorations were a long way from being done and I wanted nothing to do with it.
I had chosen the Montè Hotel. It was a beautiful place and it was convenient for the event. It was big enough and it also had enough rooms to occupy the staying people and others would just go to the pack house instead.
I looked away from the mess on my desk and looked to the window. I needed some peace and quiet but that was not the plan made by the Goddess. A knock came from the door and I became irritated just as quick. "Alpha king!" The person behind the door called, and by the scent I could tell who it was. Anastasia Fernandez, the gamma's mate.
"You may enter!" And with that the door opened and she came in. She was a beautiful woman, truth be told. She had a height of 6ft 2inch and apart from that she was strong. Before changing packs she was a warrior, one of the three woman that were allowed to fight among men in her pack and the academy. And believe me it was no easy talk to get in it either.
She bowed before going any further from the door. "Alpha king Nick,I ask of you to give me permition to bring my friend along to attend the mating ritual." She said with her her eyes down and voice low. For a minute I didn't know what to say. It was the first time I had heard of it,she had Strider to be her plus one. "And why would I do that?" I said standing from my chair and going to the front of the desk. The poor thing was scared,if she had the chance she could have ran away. But I did like the way she approached things, going straight to the point. Maybe I would allow it. Maybe.

"Alpha she..." She went on telling me why I would do such a thing. Was this friend of hers not one of us,our kind?a shifter? In order to get the answers I needed I had to asked her. " This friend that you speak so highly of ,that you would risk so much for what is she?" I asked her in a calm voice and this friend she spoke of sounded intriguing. "Alpha king Nick I don't follow." She said eyes still on the floor as if it was the most interesting thing in the room. "Is she a werewolf or a lycan?" I asked. "She is human my king."
Human? Human? Human..
Why go through the trouble for a human?
I looked at Anastasia ,studying her. "You have my permition but if she causes any problems no matter how small ,you and her are dead. Do I make myself clear?" I said my voice dangerously calm. She knew I meant what I had said and she ptomised nothing would happen.
-.-.'-.-.-.-.'.-.'
The day finally came and everything was almost sorted and those left were to be finalized by the gamma's mate,Anastasia,my mother,Autumn and sister,Diana. We had nicknamed her Ria for short.
Before going to the hotel,I went for a run. If I was going to be at my best and not kill someone,I had to clear my head first. So I got out of the pack house went through the pack grounds were some of the young warriors were prepping to go and get ready for the ritual. I stretched my arms and legs then shifted into my lycan. The cracking and relocation of bones would have sounded brutal to someone that was not used to it,like a human. A non shifter. But there were no human so I did not have to worry about scarring them or anyone off.
"Thanks man!" Dark,my lycan said as the warm air hit him. "You're welcome." He crunted and started running. The texture of the soil was soft and it felt good to have it get in between my paws. The air was fresh and perfect for a little run. A stretch as that was what it was.
We took our time but eventually returned. I got to the hotel and started the ceremony with a few words. After giving the welcoming speech I also said something of warning. More like something for them to remember not to do. "There will be no shifting tonight . We will have a human among us so do be careful and enjoy yourselves. This may be your last day single so make sure to enjoy yourself ." They laughed and I left the stage. For a mating ritual I had no luck. No scent was unique, none seemed to make my senses go awry.

For a man as powerful as I,the females threw themselves at me but the fear in them was still too overpowering to ignore. I lost interest after a couple of minutes and went to my office. Yes,I had an office at the Montè hotel. I did own more than the majority of its shares.
Two hours had passed and I had not went out of the office and word had got around about the human girl that was around. They talked a lot about her beauty and the males could not stop talking about how sexy and different she smelled.
I decided to go and see this woman myself but I got a really off felling so stayed but called Anastasia.
A knock from the door came and since I knew who it was I did not bother to look up. "Come in." My voice was stern and I was on edge,Dark was also on edge. He could not stop howling and that irritated me even more.
As soon as Anastasia entered the room the smell hit me hard. It was that unique smell of a mate and it was still fresh on her. My mate scent. I had found her. I couldn't place exactly what she smelled like but from what I had to go by,she smelled wonderful. "Mate! Mate! Mate!" Dark started yelling in my head.
"My king! you called?." She said with her head down, not meeting my gaze. She was not being submissive or anything,it was to show respect. It was a crime a very big to look an Alpha in the eyes and the Alpha king so the outcomes were bigger. For an ordinary Alpha the person would be imprisoned and tutored but to do that to me they would die in a mear second.
"You may raise your head." I told her. My voice was calmer,a contradiction of what was really happening inside me. Two hundred and twenty-eight years of waiting did its work on me. "Were have you been and who was with you?" I asked her instantly. Her head was raised but her eyes were down. "Look at me!" I commanded in my alpha voice and she obliged. She was shaking, literally shaking,so I left her that way. Well tried. "Stop shaking so much. It's not like I'm going to kill you." I tried to joke, and instead of removing the intense atmosphere her body became fixed on the spot for a second and she Shoke even more. That was that,I gave up. It was not like she would stop if I told her to stop. That nothing would happen to her or anyone for that matter.
I forgot what I was going to talk to her about and that was unnatural for an Alpha. For me. "Who were you with the past five and a half hours?" I asked her,I had to. She was confused but she answered anyway. "I was with Scarlett,Ruina and Juliet.I also attended to the guests, your highness." She stuttered. She did not give the answer I was hoping for. The owner of the scent could have been any of the females in that room. "Were are they ?" I asked her, unintentionally using my Alpha voice and her head fell again. "What did I say about your head,Anastasia ?" My voice calmer that before. I was changing,my moods were changing from anger to happiness in a second and voice from calm to anxious and agitated.
"That I should not hang it but hold it high,Alpha king." Her voice was shaking. She raised her head, held it high like a true gamma's mate should. I kind of didn't fell anything for doing that to her. I had that affect on people and I couldn't do anything about it. "Juliet is in the grand room and Ruina has already left with her mate Jake, you highness." She said, not shaken like before and I was impressed.
"Call her?" She quickly got out. It was amusing how fast she got to the door and out. She must have been begging the stars to be out if that room. Either way I was not going to do anything to her. I was not going to kill anyone for today unless provoked.
Minutes later they entered the room and they had the same scent. The hint of my mates scent on them. Seeing as I would not get anywhere soon I decided to ask them about how the guests were doing and I excused them. I went to the grand room to see as who the scent may have belonged to but got nothing. Maybe she had already left. I searched for Vincent, the driver Anastasia had requested but had no luck finding him. So I looked for Anastasia instead and found her talking to the Alpha of the Grey Hound pack. He was from Italy.
"Alpha king Nick!" He acknowledged me and bowed. "Charles!" I greeted him back and told Anastasia to follow me through the mind link. "Were is Vincent? And I still have not meet that human you basically risked your life for. Were is she?" I looked around one last time just to make sure. But if she was around a human scent would be present and it wasn't. "She has left and Vincent took her home." She said then asked to leave early to go and see her and I also wanted to see this human. She had to be one special being.
