《Manan - Entangled》Part 28

Navya met Manik and handed him a letter.
Navya : "I am Nandini's friend. She asked me to give this letter to you the day she left. I came looking for you that day, but couldn't find you. Then I didn't come to college, so I couldn't give it you earlier."
Manik took the letter and opened it immediately. It read :
"I am very very sorry that I put you through all this. Please don't think I was taking revenge from you for what you did. Also you don't have to feel guilty about anything.
Actually I came to thank you earlier, and I overheard you talking to your friend. So, I came back again on the day you were talking to Mukti. I wanted to know the reason behind Mukti hating me.
Also, I didn't want your relationship with Mukti to suffer because you had backed out from taking revenge. So, I lied that their plan was successful at that moment thinking that I will talk to you about it later, but after hearing their accusations I started focusing on how to clear their misunderstandings.
I had to leave from here soon and I couldn't come up with a better plan during the short time I had. I am sorry that I had to involve you in it without letting you know. I didn't know anyone else who I could involve other than you. I felt that I wouldn't be able to do so if I met you, so I avoided meeting you.
I realized that my lie had effected you so much only after spiking your drink. I trust you and I know that you were genuinely concerned. You don't have to feel guilty for something which you didn't do. I hope that you will understand that whatever I did was only to clear Mukti's misunderstanding, and forgive me.
Don't worry about me, I will be fine. I will try to move on from my past and work on improving myself. Thank you for everything you did for me. Bye.
- Nandini"
Nandini's letter took a big weight of his shoulders. It freed Manik of his guilt and he felt relieved knowing that she would try to improve for the better. At that point of time, that is all he wished for. He didn't bother to tell about the letter to any of his friends else except Cabir. He felt that his friends didn't care about Nandini. Manik told Cabir because he knew that Cabir was worried for him.

Next day, Manik's servant came to Manik.
Servant : "I found a stained t-shirt in the jeep and had given it for dry cleaning, but it seems they weren't able to get the paint off, so shall I dispose it?"
Manik : "Yes, what is the point in keeping it when I can't wear it.
Manik's servant left and after a while Manik remembered that it was the shirt Nandini had messed up. He went to his servant immediately and got the shirt. Manik didn't know why he didn't feel like disposing it or what he would do with it, but he placed it in his cupboard.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At Sunaina's house, Sunaina asked Nandini to join her when she was going out. When Nandini took out a dress to change, an extra dupatta came along with it. It was the dupatta which Manik had messed up by wiping paint off his hands and called it a piece of art. She had put it aside because she couldn't use it, but she had dumped her clothes in to the bag in a hurry and that dupatta had also ended up in her bag.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Both were thinking of how they were upset with the other at that time, and how since then things had changed between them.
Manik : "Back then I had thought that when we part, I will rejoice after making you suffer, but it hurt to even know that you have been through so much. I never expected that failing in something could bring happiness too. This is the first time I backed out of something and I am happy about it because I didn't end up adding to your sufferings."
Manik : "Why did you have to leave like this? If you would have met me before leaving, I would have made some arrangements. Now I don't know where or how you are. I hope you are doing okay and will be able to move on from your past soon."
Nandini : "Back then I tried to stay away from you when you tried to get closer, but still you managed to make a place in my life. Now, though you aren't around, you are the first one who comes to my mind in the morning.

After Nandini had saved Manik and herself from getting hit by the truck, that was the first thing which came to her mind after she used to wake up from her nightmare. Unlike earlier, her day didn't start thinking about the past incidents that led to her accident. That along with Manik's company and his attempts to change her mindset had already started changing her days a little from usual.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Days were passing by. Manik seemed to have got back to his normal life, but he had changed for the better. He had become more empathetic.
Mukti felt guilty for what she did to Nandini, but her focus was on apologizing and seeking forgiveness from Harshad. Alya didn't feel guilty for what she had done to Nandini, but she apologized for not understanding Harshad and tried to convince him to return home. Harshad wasn't ready to forgive them or go back home.
Seeing how much Arya and Harshad were worried for Nandini, Manik disclosed about Nandini's letter to them. So they at least came to know that she wasn't more heartbroken than she already was. Harshad still didn't forgive Mukti or Alya, because the fact that Manik had backed out and Nandini had not fallen in to their trap didn't mean that Mukti and Alya weren't at fault. It was because of them Nandini had left, and they hadn't been able to find any information about her so far.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sunaina wasn't close to Nandini like Mukti was during their college days. They just knew each other because of Arya. Sunaina was Arya's classmate. She knew about Nandini's accident and had thought that she was dead, but she didn't know who had caused the accident or why. Seeing that Nandini hadn't recovered fully even after such a long time, Sunaina tried to take good care of her.
When Nandini would eat very little and stop,
Sunaina : "That's why you are still weak. Unless you eat and get back to how you were earlier, I am not going to let you go from here. If you continue like this, there is no doubt you will stay with me and give me company, I am fine by it. You decide what you want to do."
Nandini had no intentions of staying there for long. Also she had to improve for the better as she had assured her well wishers, so she slowly tried to work on her eating habits.
Arya and Harshad knew everything about Nandini, so they were very very considerate towards her. They wanted her to improve, but they didn't want to hurt her more than she already was, so they didn't force her to change. Unlike them, Manik and Sunaina didn't know the entire truth. Manik only knew she was depressed for some reason and wasn't keeping that well, and Sunaina only knew that she had met with a deadly accident. They wanted her to improve for the better, so they were ready to resort to whatever worked.
When Nandini would to do something which Sunaina felt would stress her,
Sunaina : "What is the need for you to do all this? You are my guest, so just relax."
When Nandini would get lost in her thoughts for too long,
Sunaina : "I can't do everything alone. Come and help me out."
When Nandini asked her why she did so,
Sunaina : "Sometimes you don't realize that you are stressing yourself and sometimes you seem to be too lost. Both physical and mental stress aren't good for you if you want to recover soon."
Nandini remembered that Manik also used to do something similar, but at that time she didn't know why he contradicted what he said earlier. Once he would say something like :
Manik : "If you want to do everything on your own, what is the use of me being your partner. At least think of what people will think of me, 'A strong young man is making a weak lady do all the work'. Leave this to me, I will take care of it."
Another time he would say,
Manik : "I am your partner not subordinate. You can't sit idle and make me do all the work. Come on, do your part."
