《Best Friends With Benefits & After The Benefits End》After The Benefits End - Part 31

*Liv's POV*
Dan pulled up onto our drive and I got out before he'd even turned the engine off. I walked through the front door, Luke and Evie's head shot up as I walked in.
"Liv..." Evie began but I held my hand up to her and walked up stairs "Don't Evie."
I slammed my bedroom door shut. Grabbing my small suitcase from the bottom of my wardrobe I began filling it with things I'd need. I found my phone where I'd left it on my bedside unit. My scrap book still open on the page we were looking at...prom night. I left it where it was continuing to pack.
I grabbed my phone and opened a new message to Ruby [ I need to stay with you for a couple of days please, it’s urgent! xxx]
I'd finished packing, zipping up my suitcase and placing it near the door. I sat on my bed, my knees curled up and my arms wrapped around them.
I picked up my scrap book turning it over to the next page, our year eleven 'Graduation' I smiled remembering how happy we were that we were finally leaving school, moving on to college.
*buzz buzz*
[Hey , what's happened? I'm sorry but I'm up at me mams for the week. xx]
[Nothing its fine, have fun :) xxx]
Shit. Megan's at her boyfriends and Erin’s on holiday. Who can I text?
[Kate, I need to stay with you for a couple of days please, it’s urgent!xxx]
Almost instantly I got a reply.
[Sure , what's happened? Is everything okay? xxx]
[Long story I'll fill you in later. Thank you so much, I just need to get away xxx]
[Okay , I'll be round as soon as I can! I’ll beep when I'm outside.xxx]
I placed my phone down beside me and looked back at the scrap book in my lap.
On the next page were random group photos from college. It’s where me and Evie met Megan and the girls. There's a great picture of me and Evie on Luke and Dan's backs, all with cheesy smiles on our faces.
I could feel the tears sliding down my cheeks as I looked though the rest of the book.
How could they just put it behind them?
Did they talk about it when they were alone? How did I not even notice?
I had so many thoughts flowing through my head, it was like a constant running thought that I couldn’t get away from.
There were pictures of us all out on nights out, me and all the girls, me and Evie. House parties from over the years, birthday nights out. Some from Glastbury, one of my favourites where me and Dan are covered in mud after a fight.
I turned over to the next page as my bedroom door slowly creaked open.
I kept my eyes on my scrap book. It was the middle pages dedicated to me and Evie. Numerous pictures of us throughout the years, with Liv and Evie best friends, sisters, twins! Underneath a picture of us on our twenty first birthday. One huge cake in front of us then the picture underneath being of me and Evie smashing cake into each other’s faces.
"Are you just going to ignore me?" Evie asked me slowly coming over to me.
"That was my plan." I reply still staring at the pictures of me and Evie in my scrapbook.
"Liv come on, you know it didn't mean anything."

I lifted my gaze from the book to hers. "Do I?"
"Yes." She snapped coming over and plonking herself down at the end of my bed.
"How can I ever trust you again?"
"Nothing has changed, you’ve just found out who I actually slept with on prom, not Ryan."
"Nothing has changed...are you shitting me?" I reply shocked "Today I find out that my boyfriend actually lost his virginity to my twin sister when in fact he wanted it to be me."
"He told you then."
"Yes, why didn't you?"
"How could I?"
"Easy. We tell each other everything Evie."
"Yea I know but I just couldn't tell you this, neither could Dan. That night I saw him getting drunk on his own. Wondering why he wasn't with you...then I saw you and James. But I never understood as to why he was so bothered by it...until he poured his heart out."
"So you took advantage of him...nice."
"Is that what you think I did?"
"I duno Evie, I wasn't there. I didn't know."
"NO it wasn't like that. I sat there and listened to your best friend tell me that ever since the day you's kissed, he's had these feelings for you but was too scared to do anything with them in case you didn't feel the same way. But that tonight being prom night and you's being each other’s dates...he wanted to confess to you how much he actually liked you and wanted more from your friendship. I knew you didn't see him that way and told him that but it never put him off. He was still determined to tell you until he saw you and James kissing and walk off together."
I just sat there listening to everything she had to say. I believed what she was telling me. It was pretty much what Dan had said but with more detail, lads are shit when it comes to giving the 'full' story.
"He began necking the vodka straight so I took it off him. I went to go find Ryan but saw him making out with Emma outside."
"You told me you found out he cheated on you the next morning, not actually at prom." I reply to her
"I'm sorry."
"Another thing you lied about...anything else whilst you’re at it?"
"You know we don't have any secrets."
"I didn't think we did at all, but wow you were hiding a biggun here."
She hung her head in shame and nodded, "I know and I'm sorry, you don't understand how much but I really didn't want to hurt you."
"But why would it Evie? I wasn't with Dan then. I wasn't in love with him."
"Liv...as much as you want to deny it...you did have feelings for him back then. They may have disappeared over the years until recently but you did have feelings for him. You wouldn't have agreed to let him be your first kiss otherwise."
I sat there thinking for a minute about what she said.
"I know you did."
"I didn't"
"You can deny it all you want but I know it would have gutted you if we'd told you."
"Not as much as it has done now Evie. But I can say the same thing back to you and Luke. He was your first kiss meaning you had feelings for him but then you shag his best mate."

"I know." She sighs "But Luke got with Sarah and I was with Ryan. I pushed my feelings aside. But when I saw Ryan with Emma I broke apart, I really loved him. So I went back to Dan with the vodka and we finished off the bottle...you know what happened next."
"All I know is that my sister and my best friend have broken my heart."
"This is why I didn't want you knowing. The look you have in your eye when you look at me is never going to be the same now." She cried
"What do you expect Evie, you fucked my boyfriend."
"It happened five years ago. He wasn't your boyfriend then."
"Not for me it never. It happened this afternoon"
*beep beep*
I got off my bed, shutting my scrapbook and placing it in the box before putting it back under my bed.
"It never meant anything to either of us."
"You were Dan's first, of course it means something."
"Does James mean something to you?"
"No!"
"There you go then. That's exactly the same."
"Difference is I wasn't best friends with James, like you and Dan, and he never kept a secret from me for five years."
*beep beep*
"I've got to go." I say to her grabbing my suitcase
"Where?" Evie asked really upset
"Just away from here."
"Don't leave please."
"I need to get away for a few days...clear my head."
"Please don't go. I need you to forgive me. Stay."
"I can't, I need time away to think. How would you feel if you just found out on prom night that I actually slept with Luke not James? That I'd lied to your face about who I'd been with, who my first time was with for five years." I say looking at her "That I'd kissed him, touched him, been intimate with him..."
"Stop it." She cried
"That's my point. You don't like it."
"No I don't but it’s different."
"How is it?"
*beep beep*
"Because you’re not marrying Dan in two weeks or having his ba..." She shouted as I was about to walk through my bedroom door.
I spun around on my heels and stared at her, as if she just said that to me.
"No I'm not because I lost my baby when I got pushed down the stairs." I screamed back, running out the room and down the stairs.
"Liv..." Evie shouted running down behind me
"Fuck you Evie." I reply looking at her
"I never meant that."
"Whatever." I reply reaching the front door looking from Evie to Dan and Luke.
“I never meant that.”
“Well you fucking said it. How could you? You know how much losing mine and Dan’s baby has killed me and now you use it against me in an argument to hurt me? Who are you?”
“I’m sorry.” She cried, sitting down on the stairs
“Yea right.” I snap at her turning to walk out the door but walking straight into Dan.
***
I looked up and Dan’s giant chocolate brown eyes were gazing down at me.
“Don’t leave me Tink....please.” he whispered, one of his arms clasped around my waist as his other hand grazed my cheek.
“I’m sorry but I have to.” I cry trying to pull out of his grip.
“Liv...don’t go.” Evie whispered from the stairs where Luke was now cuddling her.
“I’m leaving. I can’t actually believe you said that to me.” I say spinning around, still in Dan’s arms. Them wrapped around my waist.
“I said it in the heat of the moment, Liv you know I never meant it.”
“I’m sorry Evie but that was out of line, heat of the moment or not.” Dan replies, pulling me closer to him...if that was possible
I pull myself out of Dan’s grip as Katy beeps the horn once more.
“Please...” Dan whispers, as a tear slides down his cheek. His arm stretched out, linking our fingers tightly together.
“I have to.” I whisper back, untangling our fingers and walking out the front door.
I drag my suitcase down to the main road and place it into Kate’s boot before getting in the front seat. I glanced up to see Dan stood at the front door before slowly closing it.
“What’s happened?” she gasps looking at the state of me
I just shake my head, resting my head against the passenger window as she drove off.
Ten minutes later we pull up in an underground car park. I get out of her car and get my suitcase out of the boot.
“Come on .” Katie says softly to me, linking her arm through mine as we make our way to the lifts. A couple of minutes later I was sat on Kate’s sofa drinking a hot cup of tea.
“So you going to tell me what the hell has happened?” she asks placing her cup down onto the matt on the coffee table and coming to sit closer to me.
I sighed and looked at her sadly, “Ever thought that your worst nightmare would come your reality?” I ask and she shook her head
“Me neither...till this afternoon.” I reply sipping more of my drink.
Kate just sat there quietly as I finished off my drink. Once I was finished I placed the cup onto the coaster matt she had put out for me.
“You ready to talk yet?”
I shook my head at her sighing deeply, “...But I will.”
I spent the next hour explaining everything that had happened after she dropped me off drunk a couple of days ago.
“Oh my god.” She gasped
“Yea...”
“, I’m so sorry.”
“It’s not your fault.” I reply smiling slightly. Kate had been there for me since we’d met. We just clicked.
“Well you can stay here for as long as you need to okay. You don’t have to worry about rushing home. Take your time; you need to think things over.”
“Thank you so much” I reply pulling her into a hug “It really means a lot.”
“Not a problem. I just need to know that you’re okay.”
“Not right now...but I will be.”
We spent the rest of the evening watching Friends on Sky + before ordering a Chinese for tea.
“Do you mind if I go to bed, I’m shattered. It’s been a long day.”
“Not at all. You know where everything is yea?”
“Yea. Thank you for this.”
“Like I said before, not a problem. Don’t worry about it.”
I pulled my suitcase up the stairs and into Kate’s spare bedroom. I changed into some PJ’s before doing my nightly routine. I slipped into the cold bed, wrapping my arms around myself...attempting to warm by body up. I missed having the heat of Dan’s body against me...keeping me warm.
Although I was mentally exhausted, my body wouldn’t switch off. I was just lay on my back staring at the ceiling, thinking over everything that had happened.
Not long later I heard the front door open and a couple of voices I thought I recognised.
“No Dan.” I heard Kate shout before footsteps running up the stairs.
There was a light knocking on the bedroom door but I stayed where I was. The door handle slowly opened but then the door was abruptly shut.
“Leave her rest Dan.” Katy snaps
“But I need to be with her. She’s hurting”
“Yea she is but she needs space. How do you think she feels? The people she thought she could trust in the whole world lied to her?”
“Yea I know. But I didn’t want to hurt her. I hate that she is now. I need to make sure she’s okay.”
“Well I can safely say at the moment Dan...she isn’t. Just give her a few days, she loves you so much, I can see it. But she just needs to get her head straight.”
“Okay. But can I say goodnight to her? I hate us being apart.”
“Quickly.”
I snapped my eyes shut, pretending as best as I could to be asleep. The door opened and Dan walked over to me. His fingers gently stroking my cheek.
“I’m so sorry Tink, you know how much you mean to me. We’ve already lost our baby...I can’t lose you too. You are my world.”
I tried not to cry but tears slipped out and over my nose landing on my pillow.
I felt Dan’s lips on the top of my nose, causing me to smile slightly. He knew I loved it when I did that. “I know you’re not asleep Tink.”
I slowly opened my eyes to see him watching me. “I just need some time.” I whisper and he nods slowly.
“I know, I just wanted to see you before you went to sleep. I hate us being apart.”
“Me too, but I need to do this”
“I understand. I love you.”
“I love you too Dan.” I whisper and he gently kisses my lips before pulling away.
“Night Tink.” Dan whispers heading towards the door
“Night Romeo.”
Eventually I must have drifted off to sleep but only to wake up an hour or so later. Reminded me of the night where we all sat watching Paranormal Activity. The night I couldnt sleep so I went into Dan’s room for a cuddle, I needed my best friend. Just like I needed him now...but he wasn’t here. He’d gone back home, to his bed...where I should be. But I couldn’t, not yet.
I looked at my phone...4.09am. I sighed before getting out of bed and getting changed. I needed a change of scenery.
I brushed my teeth, before applying the slightest of makeup and brushing my hair into a scruffy bun. I placed everything back into my suitcase, quietly zipping it up. I carried it down the stairs before leaving a note for Kate.
[Hey , thank you so much for letting me stay last night but I need a complete change of scenery for a while. I’ll be in touch soon, thanks for everything. Love Liv xxxxx]
I placed it on the coffee table before letting myself out her flat. I dialled the number for a local taxi company, waiting inside the entrance of the flats.
About fifteen minutes later it pulled up and I got in.
“Where to miss?” the taxi man asked
“The airport please.” I smiled. He nodded at me before turning on the meter and driving away.

8 82NEVER SPLIT THE PARTY: The Adventures of The Creeping Bam (BOOK ONE: The Job)
TAO is a broken world held together with nothing but magic and the will of the gods who protect it and its people. Then thousand years ago THE SUNDERING struck and Tao was almost torn apart by a terrible magical cataclysm which resulted in the planet almost being halted in its journey through the cosmos. It took all the power the gods of Tao could muster to restore its orbit and set it turning again, but in their efforts it was forever changed – its axis was drastically altered, and it now spins in such a way that one face of the world is forever turned from the sun it orbits, leaving half the planet in perpetual darkness. The various humanoid races that survived and now thrive within the habitable parts of THE DAY LANDS have come to live in perpetual fear of what lives beyond THE BORDERLANDS that separate them from whatever dwells within THE NIGHT LANDS, but for ten millennia it has kept its secrets. The land of RUNDAO languishes under the rule of their warlike Northern neighbours, the TEKTEHRAN EMPIRE, while a small, ragtag band of motley adventurers ply their mercenary trade fighting monsters and protecting the common man from the various dangers that haunt the night and prowl the hinterlands on the edges of civilization. THE CREEPING BAM have amassed a modest reputation in their years together, but they’re still just a small-time party of sellswords, thieves, outcasts and mages. They’re also exactly the kind of underdogs the people of Tao doesn’t yet realise are needed to save the world from the encroaching darkness they doesn’t even know is coming … This is a love letter and homage to the high-fantasy worlds of the tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and Warhammer and the sword & sorcery cinema and literature I fell in love with as a kid growing up in the 80s, from Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian (and the awesome Schwarzenegger movie, STILL my favourite fantasy film EVER), The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and Ron Howard and George Lucas’ Willow, to the more grown-up and edgy worlds of grimdark masters George RR Martin and (my all-time favourite) Joe Abercrombie, as well as a BIG DOLLOP of Terry Pratchett’s immortal Discworld series. IMPORTANT: This story contains material which some readers may consider to be mature, such as battle violence, some strong language and occasional mild sexual scenes. If this is not your kind of thing, this story is not for you. I am also serializing this story on Tumblr, Wattpad, Quotev and Sweek.
