*Liv’s POV*

I was numb, this couldn’t be happening. I looked at her in shock, “excuse me...what?”

“I’m so sorry, didn’t you know you were pregnant?” she gasped and I shook my head before Evie pulled me into a hug.

“I’ll give you some time alone, I’ll come back later so we can talk.” The nurse said before leaving us alone.

“I’m so sorry .” Evie whispered to me, gently stroking my head.

I pulled away, tears falling down my cheeks. “Why can’t anything good just happen to me?” I cried, curling my arms around my knees.

“I’m so sorry” Evie cried sitting next to me on my bed and pulling in into her as I cried.

“Did you not know you were pregnant?”

“No...but I’ve been distracted lately. Not really been paying attention to my calendar.”

I heard two voices outside the doors, I guess Dan was here. My head turned to the door, as Evie looked at me.

“You want me to go get Dan?”

“No.” I reply bluntly

“He needs to know .”

I didn’t reply to her, I rolled over facing the wall. Wrapping my arms around my stomach and pulling the blanket up to my chin. I just let all my tears fall. I heard her sigh before walking out the room, leaving me some time on my own.

*Dan POV*

I eventually found the ward, now to find her room. I saw Luke stood in the corridor so least I’d found it.

“What you doing out here?” I ask glancing at the door

“Liv’s just woke up...” he begins

“Oh my, really? Is she okay? Can I see her?” I begin to babble.

“Yea everything is fine, the nurse is with her and Evie at the moment, she had something to tell her.”

“Oh right...do you know what?”

“No, I gave them time to talk; she just wanted Evie with her.”

“Okay....has she asked about me?” I mumble quietly before looking at him.

“Yea, she doesn’t want to see you.” He replied, looking at me apologetically.

“Oh...but I need to…” I begin as the door opens and the nurse walks out.

“Are we allowed in?” Luke asked

“You may need to give her time, she’s in shock and extremely upset.” She replied before walking away

“What’s happened?” I ask Luke but he shrugs his shoulders

“I’m going in.” I say reaching for the door handle but it opens again and a very teary eyed Evie walks out.

“What’s happened ?” Luke asked pulling her into a hug but she shook her head.

“Can I see her?” I ask Evie and she looks at me, tears running down her cheeks

“To be honest Dan...I think you are gona be the last person she wants to see but the person she needs the most right now.”

I sighed and nodded, what was I to do? I needed to see her...speak to her...but I understand why she doesn’t want to see me.

“Here’s the food, I’m not so hungry anymore.” I replied passing them the bags of food before walking down the corridor to the main doors.

I sat down on the bench near a couple of trees, thinking everything over. “How could I have let this happen?” I mumble, placing my head in my hands.

“Don’t have regrets my boy.” I hear an old voice croak before looking up to see a frail old man sitting down beside me, “They don’t do you any good and you can’t do anything to change them. Yes, the past can hurt but the way I see it...you can either run from it or learn from it.”

“You’re right.” I reply and lift my hand to shake his

“I’m Ron nice to meet you.”

“Daniel and likewise.”

“So son, what has brought you out here all sad and regretful on this gorgeous afternoon?”

“It’s a long story...” I sigh

“Hey...I got nothing but time. Maybe I can help?” He smiled and patted my back, “Start from the beginning.”

So I did and I began telling Ron, this perfect stranger what had happened in my life.

*Liv's POV*

I must have been crying for a good half an hour when I felt two arms wrap around me and a head rest on my shoulder.

"I love you ." Evie whispers to me

"Love you too Evie." I cry before turning to face her. I lean my head against her chest and continue to cry.

"Why Evie, why did she do it? She's ruined everything!"

"I don't know , but the police have her now. She can't hurt you anymore."

"But she is Evie, I have no baby. I know I didn't know I was pregnant, but finding out that I'd lost it before I could even celebrate having it hurts even more."

"I know , I know. I'm so sorry."

"Why didn't Dan just believe me? Then this wouldn't have happened."

"You can't think like that , everything happens for a reason. And Dan is punishing himself for everything."

"Good!" I replied

"Liv, don't be like that."

"How do you expect me to be? He chose Amy over me...we’re over."

"You and Dan are best friends; you've been through too much to let Amy come between you. Plus he needs to know about yours and his baby."

"She already has come between us...and what baby?" I shout at her, "Because of him I have no baby...Just leave me alone please."

"That's one thing I'm never doing, you are all I have left." She cried pulling me closer to her

"I'm sorry." I whispered

"You've got nothing to be sorry for."

*Dan POV*

"So yea, she's just woke up now but doesn't want to see me. But I need to see her, to speak to her."

"I hear you son, but look at it from her point of view. She was basically asking you to chose your relationship or to chose your ex partner. But because of everything that happened, can you blame her for being upset with you?"

"No I guess not, but I just want to see her. She’s everything to me."

"You might just have to give her time, let her calm down. If you are meant to be together then everything will work its self out. I wish you both all the luck."

"Thanks Ron, you've helped a lot." I smile shaking his hand

“Not a problem my boy, my only regret in life is that my late wife and I never had children of our own. So it’s nice to pass on some of the wisdom I’ve gathered over the years.” He smiled standing up, “Good luck with everything Dan.” He smiled before walking away.

I was about to stand up and head home when I saw Luke and Evie leaving the hospital heading for Luke’s car. I stayed where I was, watching them pull out and off down the road.

Instead of going to my car, I headed back into the hospital. I called into the shop and picked up the biggest bunch of flowers I could find and some grapes. Very cliché I know but it’s got to be done. I made my way to her room and paused at the door.

I took a deep breath before opening the handle and walking in. Her back facing me, so she was facing the wall. She didn’t move when I came in...she was probably asleep. I placed the flowers in the empty vase near her bed, with the grapes and a card. I sat down on her bed and watched her sleep, her arms wrapped closely around her waist. Her face stained with tears and black mascara. Quiet music was playing from the radio on the table, ‘Here’s one for the lovers’ the presenter spoke.

I recognised the music but couldn’t remember who it was by. I began humming along until I picked up the words and quietly sang to Liv. I didn’t have the worst voice in the world so at least it wouldn’t sound terrible if she could hear me...I’d never sang to anyone before.

The more I sang, the more the lyrics began to make me tear up, they were all so true.

I had to compose myself before looking at her again, my heart was aching for her. To touch her, kiss her, hold her in my arms and tell her everything is okay. For her to believe me and trust me again.

I wiped away my tears before I gently moved her gorgeous blonde hair that had fallen onto her face to behind her ear.

“I’m so sorry baby girl.” I whispered, stroking her cheek so softly “Why didn’t I just trust my instinct...that you were telling me the truth. I think I always knew it deep down but the thought of becoming a dad excited me the more I thought about it. I know I said I wasn’t ready, especially when we had our scare but I guess I am. So hopefully, you can find it in your gorgeous heart to forgive me and one day we can be excited about our own baby news....I honestly don’t know what I’ll do without you by my side. You are my best friend Tink...you know everything about me. But not only that you are my soul mate and I gave you that ring as a promise to never hurt you and I guess I’ve broken that. Tink believe me...I never meant to hurt you. When I saw you fall down those stairs and the blood on my hand from the cut on your head. I thought I’d lost you, that you’d been taken away from me. That nearly killed me , the thought of not seeing you every day. I just hope when you come home...we can talk and try and work things out. I’ll love you forever , never forget that.”

I kissed her temple before walking out the room and getting into my car. I drove home the car in silence, which wasn’t normal for me. I pulled up on the drive next to Luke’s car and locked up.
