《Punching the Gang leader》Chapter Twenty

"Are you ready Stell?" Ace asks as he walks into the living room with his luggage dragging behind him. He abandons his luggage somewhere behind the couch across from me and comes to stand in front of me. I look up at him for a moment, weighing my options.
Was I ready?
Today is what I've been training for. After a year of target practice, boxing matches, and developing strategic plans I was finally ready to do an assassination attempt. Today was my day to prove to myself that everything I've worked hard for this past year is worth all the blood loss and all the tears of frustration.
I was definitely ready.
I stand up from my seat on the couch and dust the invisible dust I've collected, "I've been ready for forever." I could hear my own confidence in my voice and widened my smile.
Ace's eyes scanned over my expression and body language, getting a quick read on me before he responded. His eyes shone with pride as he realized that I wasn't pretending to be prepared or confident in my skills. His smile was one that made my heart race and my breath get stuck in the back of my throat.
He reaches out for me and pulls me closer to him. My chest meets his and he plants a thousand gentle kisses all over my face. I squeeze my eyes shut as I giggle due to the slight tickle the kisses give me, my labored breathing from laughing so hard making me inhale his cologne deeply. I didn't know the name of this specific one, but I know I love it when he wears this one.
"You're gonna do amazing out there." Ace whispers in my ear once he's done. Hearing his voice so close to me and feeling his breath against my ear makes me blush scarlet red. His breath smells so minty and I could smell the cake batter chapstick he recently put on. One of my favorite flavors that he stole from my collection of chapsticks.
"C'mon I bet they're waiting for us" I whisper, opening my eyes to look at him.
He was staring at me, very intensely, as if he was trying to press the image of me into his mind forever.
"Our chariot awaits m'lady," He says in a faux old English gentleman accent. He outstretches his hand for me to take and I giggle as I place my hand in his. He leads me to the front door and lets me walk out before him. I stop so he could lock the door behind us.

When we reach our friends that were waiting in the driveway they all looked bored out of their minds.
Sage and Damien were laying on Damien's new mustang he got for his birthday. Sage was passed out on the hood of the car, her hair smooshed down against the windshield. Damien was on top of the roof of the car, half-asleep mumbling to himself.
Novah and Luca were leaning against Novah's car, her baby the Audi A7, playing rock paper scissors. I could tell Novah was winning by the frustrated look on Luca's face. He hated losing.
Ace and I gave each other a look, silently asking each other the same question. We nodded once in agreement and walked towards Ace's car. He had recently gotten a new all-black Camaro that I don't know the model or year of. I kinda always dissociate when he talks about cars.
We get inside and Ace immediately starts up the engine. I clasp my hands on my lap as I tap my feet on the floorboard excitedly. Ace glances at me with a mischievous smirk as he rolls down both of our windows. A second later he revs the engine as loud as he could.
Sage and Damien immediately startle awake, and I laugh my ass off as Damien rolls off the hood of the car. Sage was sitting up, looking like a crazy cavewoman with her hair sticking out of her bun. Her eyes were wide with a crazed look as she glared at Ace.
"Fuck you whore!" Sage shouts, flipping Ace and me off angrily.
Ace drummed his fingers on the steering wheel nonchalantly before honking his horn every time Sage said a curse word.
Luca and Novah were watching their exchange with amused expressions. Damien was struggling to get up and kept collapsing back on the ground in exhaustion. Poor Damien he didn't go to bed until late last night since he had to run everything we had on mine and the girls target through his database.
Once Sage was finished yelling Ace he leaned his head out of the driver's side window.
"We're going to be flying out of our airport! Follow behind me." He announces, his voice loud so everyone could comprehend him.
"You guys have your own airport?" Novah's voice carries over to us. Her eyebrows were raised at Ace as she waits for him to answer.

"The FBI has pictures of our faces with wanted labels on em so we can't just go flaunting ourselves in view of the public often. Our airport is privately owned and operated." Luca decides to answer as he shrugs his shoulders like it wasn't that big of a deal.
"Sheesh they're so salty" Damien groans, "but I'm so glad I don't have to travel in the cesspool of germs and bacteria."
Sage rolls her eyes at Damien before shoving him roughly. "Get in the car already Dame. I'm ready to take a nap." Sage whines like a child. Damien smiles softly at her and opens the passenger door for her. I watch her quickly jump into the car and slam the door shut. Damien chuckled before jogging to the driver's side, his exhaustion seemingly long forgotten.
Ace places his hand in mine before pressing on the gas and sending us flying down the driveway towards the opened gates. I stick my free hand out of my open window and feel the wind go through my fingertips. I fight against the wind to keep my hand as still as I could get it before creating a wave motion with my hand. Comfortable silence enveloped us as we listened to the lyrics of a song floating from the radio.
I tuck my hand neatly inside the car and tap my fingers against my thigh right as we reach the gates. Ace drifts onto the main road and I smile because I love it when Ace drifts while holding my hand.
After a few minutes of driving my eyes start to grow heavy with sleepiness and I lower my seatback. Ace glances down at me, his eyes softening at the sight of my sleepy state. He lifts the hand he was holding and kisses my knuckles.
"Sweet dreams baby." He whispers and I grin as my eyes flutter shut.
"G'night," I mutter softly into the leather fabric of the seat.
I take a deep breath of that rich London air and break out into a coughing fit soon after exhaling.
"Holy fuck I did not miss it here" I spluttered out as I struggle to catch my breath.
Novah and Sage grimace as they step off the plane's boarding stairs. They walk a few feet to where I was standing and sighed.
"Jeez, it's weird being back here."
Sage and I silently nod in agreement with Novah's statement.
"Let's burn this shite down," Sage suggests, her tone totally serious.
I hum as I think about it, "Nah too much smoke will affect the wildlife."
"Damn."
Our silence as we reminisce about the good and the bad memories we endured while living in this country is interrupted by the sound of bickering.
Damien is stomping down the birding stairs, angrily yapping at an annoyed-looking Luca behind him.
I see Damien dramatically rolls his eyes at something Luca says and automatically mimics him silently in a mocking manner.
"Stop mocking me Damian" Luca warns, sounding completely serious and irritated.
Damian gasps as if he's offended "I would never mock you."
"He totally was!" I yelled, causing Luca to slap the back of Damien's head once they reach solid ground.
Damien flinches and rubs the back of his head with a pout, "Tattletale!" Damien yells at me, raising his fist and furrowing his eyebrows at me.
I respond to him by sticking out my tongue.
Damien surprises me when he shoves his bags into Luca's chest before sprinting towards me.
My eyes widen and I immediately spring into a flight response.
"Can't catch me loser!"
I run as fast away from him as my legs would take me. I quickly glanced over my shoulder and find him a good distance behind me, struggling to catch up.
Haha, sucker!
I slow down, letting him catch up to me. He eyes me suspiciously but I continue to act like I'm starting to grow exhausted. Once he's close enough behind me and going too fast to stop suddenly I drop like a sack of potatoes.
"Wait what the-" Damien says right before he trips over me and slams against the ground.
I jump back up and immediately put a foot on his back, slightly digging my heel in his back.
Damien groans and I grin in triumph.
"Told ya' you can't catch me."

The Stormcrow Cycle
Once a powerful and lauded witch, Ba'an salu-Ba'an now lives alone in a cave in the desert, waiting to die. When she rescues an outlander from certain death she becomes embroiled in a deadly game of politics and empire, of heart and soul, but worst of all--of hope and love and a chance at a peaceful future. Can a disgraced witch find a reason to live her life again--and if so, what price must she pay? The Stormcrow Cycle is a trilogy comprising of The Exile, The Lion, and Abomination. Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
