-Cassie's POV-
I stared at my reflection in the mirror, I didn't get a wink of sleep last night. I was just tossing and turning all night. I splashed water on my face and walked out going into my closet. Today is a pack meeting with the neighboring pack, it happens every 3 months to ensure peace amongst us. Kind of like a summit in a sense. I'm filling in Toby and Jay for today since they have other pack duties. I grabbed my suit and started to get dressed. The white collared button up was making me feel stuffy but I have to deal with it. Before I went downstairs I checked my appearance again. I look good I'll admit the massive eye bags add something to it.
I met my dad in the kitchen, he too was wearing a nice suit for todays meeting. It's not odd to see dad not wearing some dress up shirt since he usually does for work. My dad eyes landed on me and he raised his eyebrow.
"It's weird seeing you so dressed up." He gestured to my clothes.
"I know I feel stuffy, I just have to bear with it for a few hours." I grumbled.
"Your brothers filled you in right about todays meeting?" He asked me.
"Yes, they gave me a whole run down." I nodded my head.
"Well if that's the case let's head out, it's going to take us about an hour to get there." My dad grabbed the car keys and I followed him out to the car.
To keep it short and simple the car ride was relatively quiet here and there. We talked about what was going to be discussed at the meeting and just catching up with what was going in our lives. Dad spends most of his time at the pack house or doing alpha duties so he's not home all the time. I remember when I was little I used to cry when he was gone for long periods of time.
I sure have grown up.
When we did get to the meeting place, I couldn't help but notice all the black cars parked. Now it just screams strictly business, I let out a deep sigh and exited out the car. Dad told me the meeting will start about 15 minutes. I wandered around a bit listening to some music. I have to talk about the fail/success of my mission. No one died on our side, however we didn't get information from that hunter. We still don't have any leads.I checked the time on my wrist and I need to head to the meeting room. When I turned around I ran into someone and I dropped my phone. I took out my earphone and sighed down kneeling down to pick up my phone.
"Sorry about that Cassie." It was not a familiar voice, and this scent was no recognizable. I looked up and my breathing stopped for a moment. I snatched my phone from the ground and jumped away from them.
"Y-You!" I was immediately put on defensive.
"No need to be defensive Cassie. Aren't we friends?" Ace asked as he took a step forward towards me.
"Friends? That friendship we had, was severed many years ago you fucking maniac." I seethed. I kept walking backwards and he just kept coming towards me. I'm not afraid of a lot of things, but this one right here I am. He's not right in the head, and I mean it.
"Aw that hurts my heart, we were the best of friends. It's a shame you can't trust me." He smiled innocently at me and I literally stuck my tongue out at him from disgust.

"Why would I trust you, after what you did?! You literally be-" I walked back too far towards the steps and I lost my footing. I was bracing myself for the impact and it never came. The feelings of relief washed over me but also disgust with the hand that was holding my wrist.
"You can let her go, I got her." Elliot spoke as he held me up from behind. Ace attention went to Elliot and he looked disinterest. Ace let go of my wrist and took a step back away from me.
"Hello sir." Ace bowed his head a bit and Elliot completely ignored him.
"Are you ok?" Elliot stared down at me and I stood up clearing my throat.
"Yes I am fine, I just slipped." I grumbled.
"Good. The meeting is starting soon, we should head there now. Including you Ace." Elliot said and glanced over to Ace. He gave him a warning look and Ace nodded his head.
"Let's go." Elliot leaned down to whisper into my ear. His hand was at the mid of my back guiding me down the stairs. He was a barrier between Ace and me which I was glad.
"Keep a look out for Ace." Elliot snapped his head towards me and I kept my face blank.
"Y-You just?!" He stuttered.
"I had no choice?" I said like it was the most obvious thing on earth.
"Still you act-"
"We have a meeting to attend!" This time I was the one who dragged him to the meeting room.
Every pack leader was in the room seated at their appropriate seat. I took my seat next to my dad and Elliot sat across from me. Ace was sitting next him and I never wanted to stab my eye out so bad. My dad took notice of Ace and he tugged on my arm.
"I should've warned you, I'm sorry." My dad said.
"It's fine, what's done is done." I responded.
Once everyone was seated the meeting started. The usual talk that belongs with the packs maintaining order and peace. I had to talk about the hunter situation and I felt like majority of the leaders were about to clown me about it. Being the only girl here there were trying intimidate me, but little did they know I'm batshit crazy myself. I explained the situation and said I'll take care of it. After all I always complete my mission.
"Now Mr. O'Connor you have a new member I see." My dad spoke and Elliot's dad nodded his head.
"Yes Ace has joined my pack. As we all know the incident that happened 4 years ago, with his parents betrayal and uprising. Since he was a kid, and under his parents influence, we decided that he would be allowed to join my pack." Mr. O'Connor explained.
"That's it? He just joins your pack?" I spoke up. Everyone eyes were on me, but this was a serious question.
"He is under strict supervision as a caution and if anything is suspicious about him we agreed to dispose of him." He said firmly.
"Ok fair enough. But what was the deciding factor that made you think he can be apart of your pack?" I instigated further. I felt Ace intense gaze on me and I ignored it.
"Ace gave us useful information about the Black Moon Pack, they are planning a war. His parents are involved and he decided to go against them. He came to my pack for aid." He further explained.

"So he still betrays people I see." I smiled towards Ace sarcastically.
"Cassie." My dad mumbled and I decided to keep my mouth shut. Even if he betrayed the suppose pack he was in, who knows if it's just a lie.
"I swear I'm loyal to this pack, I'm tired of getting manipulated." I listened in on his heartbeat and it was slow and steady. I still don't believe him though.
The meeting continued on afterwords while I had the most bitter taste in my mouth.
***
I was at school and I was on his alert. I do not want that rat near me no matter what or I would probably kill him. I was literally walking on glass making sure anyone who was getting even near me wasn't Ace.
"You know I can sense your anxiety from miles away." I jumped in shock and turned around to see Elliot towering over me. Of course I wouldn't sense danger from him because of you know...the mate thing.
"Isn't that good to know." I grumbled.
"Calm down, you're safe." Elliot spoke reassuringly. I would believe it, I really would. However he didn't see what that devil did 4 years ago. It still gives me nightmares until today. Heck a image of it flashed in my head. Elliot grabbed my wrist suddenly stopping me from moving and stood there like a statue. Does he need something? Why is he stopping me?
"What was that?" He asked.
"Was what?" I responded confused.
"That image in your head, I saw blood. Lots of it and his face?" Elliot said. My eyes widened, I thought I blocked him, did I slip up? I thee great Cassie slipped up?!
"It was a dream it wasn't real." I said quickly and pulled my arm back.
"No it was real you're lying!" Elliot pointed out.
"Oh look at that we're late for English!" I covered my ears with my hands and started walking away quickly. Elliot was hot on my heels like a pit bull. That was an illusion, it was not real I swear. Elliot tried to talk to me and I was literally saying 'la la la' to drown him out.
"Isn't it little Cassie." That annoying voice said.
"Great the devil has arrived again." I sneered and looked at Veronica. Though my mood worsened more when Ace was standing next to her. Honestly they make a great couple devil one and devil 2.
"Hello Cassie." Ace smiled at me and I pulled Elliot in front of me to block him.
"Am I her wall or something?" Elliot voice spoke in my head and I clicked my tongue.
"Yes, now get rid of him." I spoke into his and he looked shocked once again. I nudged him with my elbow and he smiled at me. I too was now in shock, it was as if heaven just unlocked the gates. How can a smile be so great?
What the fuck am I saying right now?!
"We have English let's go!" I pushed Elliot and swore I felt my face getting hot. I think I'm mentally insane right now. Me blushing, I never blush.
"I see we all have English together." Ace spoke and I rolled my eyes.
"No one cares." Elliot said.
"I too agree with that." I snorted.
We all sadly entered English together and I went to my seat. I can sense two people following behind me and I glanced behind me. Elliot and Ace were standing next to each other just staring at me. I looked between the two of them and crossed my arms.
"You can sit down, the devil can go somewhere else." I gestured towards Elliot seat.
"Come on Cass no need to be so mean." Ace frowned and even had the audacity to give me some puppy dog eyes. I rolled my eyes and faced Elliot, he looked surprise for some reason.
"How's your morning?" I asked him out of the blue. Elliot's was resting his chin on the palm of his hands and I admit he looked really handsome right now. Oh my god what is wrong with me?! I shouldn't even think like this bad brain. Bad brain!
"Good. How about yours?" Elliot answered.
"It was well, then it got ruined by that stone standing here looking stupid." I gestured my hand towards Ace and he scoffed. He was about to say something but thankfully the teacher did indeed walked in right on time.
Ace sat down in his new seat which was a few feet away from me and it wasn't enough distance. Since that rat would occasionally glance towards me. I put my book in a standing position to block his face and I literally ducked behind it. I hate it here, and him mostly him. He's still suspicious I don't care what anyone says, it may have been a few years ago but I know crazy when I see it.
"Are you good?" Elliot whispered.
"No I am not, I don't want to be here when he's around. I feel uncomfortable." I talked quite grumpy.
"You want to ditch after this class, I know a place." Elliot suggested. My ears perked up in curiosity. Now I'm not one to ditch trust me, I never have however my circumstances are making do it.
"I would decline, but I shall take your offer." I held out my hand for a shake and he happily shook on it.
English went by smoothly surprisingly, and once the bell rang I stood up from my seat. I threw all my things in my book bag and made a bee line to the door. I made it out to the hallway and was very much determine to leave from the back entrance. Everything was going according to plan until I felt someone grab my wrist stopping me.
"Cassie wait I want to talk to yo-"
"Let her go." Elliot was holding onto Ace wrist with a very menacing glare. Ace glanced at Elliot with a cocky little smirk before he let go of my wrist.
"For someone who rejected her, you awfully care for her a lot." Ace rubbed his wrist as if it were sore. Elliot eye twitched in annoyance and sucked in his teeth.
"We're friends now that's why." I spoke up. Well are we friends? We really never established what is between us actually.
"Yeah what she, we're friends. And as her friend I would like for you to not to touch her like that." There was a full on warning behind Elliot's words. I nodded my head in agreement, yes you tell him Elliot.
Ace put his hands up as if he was surrendering and Elliot turned around to face me. He suddenly spun me around with his hands on my shoulders he began to guide me away from Ace to the doors. I can just feel him emitting such murderous vibe. It has to be from his wolf, Elliot never gets worked up unless his wolf is dying to come out.
"Thanks."
"No problem, anything for a friend."
"Oh shut it."

Apex Immortal: a LitRPG system rampage
"Across the multiverse where the contest for power is the only constant, only a handful have succeeded in reaching the ultimate heights of ascendency and gained the title Apex Immortal. Dominus is one of them, unsurpassed in overwhelming violence, feared across universes. Now, memories locked and stranded far away from everything he’d built, Dominus will face enemies that will challenge even his powers and discover that change is more difficult than destruction." I’ve been writing fiction on and off for the last decade and I’ve always wondered how a peak immortal (or an OP superhero) would single handedly conquer a world that mirrors our own in all of its complexity. As a politics nerd, this is my attempt at answering that question using Machiavelli’s “The Prince” as the primary playbook. The “monsters” are entire political systems with entrenched culture. Expect many versions of real world political systems (and cultures) to be on the hit list. The MC has to successfully institute regime and cultural change without engaging in wholesale genocide and causing the state to fail. Expect things to go wrong pretty quickly as escalating and cascading political and economic effects rapidly go out of control. Methods deployed are not for the faint hearted.
