-Cassie's POV-
I was at lunch right now but one thought kept popping up in my head and it contained the person named Elliot. After the day with my heat he's been acting strange around me, like really strange. Besides the fact he treats me now pretty decently, he's even avoiding me. I should be happy about it, however it bothers me. Did I do something? I even asked him did I do something weird and he said I didn't.
The bell rang and I got up from my chair. I picked up his scent and started following it. Fine I'll just confront him about it, because it strangely annoyed me to the max for no reason. However I got interrupted when Rose popped up out of nowhere.
"Let's go the party today." Rose asked.
"No." I declined and try to get passed her but she grabbed my arm stopping me. She wrapped her arms around mines and batted her eyes at me.
"Please! I wouldn't ask you if there wasn't a reason why!" She pleaded with me with puppy dogs eyes. I felt something snap in me, dammit I'm weak to puppy eyes. I looked away for a moment and slowly nodded my head. A big smile developed on her face and then she shoved her hand in my face.
"There's going to be a hunter at the party, it's a mission."
I read her hand and titled my head to the side. Now why would a hunter come onto our land for. Who are they targeting? The most likely to get targeted would be me and my siblings. From what I know the party is on our land, but I wouldn't usually show up to parties. Jay and Toby won't be there either.
Would it be Elliot?
Why would they come to our land to kill him though? That wouldn't make sense really, then again who knows. Will he show up to the party? If he does I should tell him about it at least, this way I can repay him for it.
"Are you going to tell Elliot?" Rose grabbed my arm stopping me from going.
"Yes I should just to be on the safe side." I said.
"The hunter is getting someone in our pack though so it can't be him." Rose said. Still something is fishy. Unless someone in my father's pack did something they shouldn't have done, but as far as I know no one is under suspicion.
"Fine, let's meet up at my house after school and we'll discuss our plans for tonight." I whispered to her. She nodded her head and walked away from me.
There's something odd about this.
***
I was in my room getting dressed for this mission. It was fairly simple outfit, black pants and fitted black t-shirt. I tucked in the shirt and put on my combat boots. I slid a knife in the boot and in the back of my waistband. I grabbed my black jean jacket and walked out of my room. Rose was already downstairs talking to my brothers about the mission. I joined up with them and Toby handed me a piece of paper.

"Do we know how they look like?" I asked.
"No we do not know, all we know there will be a hunter there." Jay shook his head.
"You're positive that there is one and we're not wasting my time?" I asked seriously.
"Yes we got intel about it, we just just don't know who this hunter is targeting." Toby ruffled my hair and I nodded my head.
"Just keep an eye out and if you encounter anyone who doesn't seem familiar keep an eye out. They are most likely going to have some scents to smell like us too remember that." Toby explained d
"Yes sir." I gave him a two finger salute and Rose shook her head.
I grabbed the car keys and we sent off to the party. This whole thing like I said feels extremely fishy, something is not right about it. It's been a long time since I was in a mission, I haven't been one in about 4 months. I kind of miss it sniffing out the rats in our pack that is trying to betray us.
They don't call me hound for no reason. My nose is extremely sensitive and my hearing.
Once we arrived at the party I kept my calm. If I immediately become defensive those hunters would easily pick that up. I walked into the party and discreetly looked around. Everyone is just having fun nothing suspicious as of yet.
"Let's head to the kitchen." I whispered into her ear and Rose led the way. We pushed passed people and manage to get there. I saw the snack bar and decided to please myself with a bag go chips. I opened it up and started munching on it. Rose went to get some drinks for us and I just waited for her return.
"Either I'm hallucinating or you're actually here." Elliot approached me and I raised my eyebrows at him.
"Nope I'm actually here." I said as I kept eating my chips.
"What led you to come to this party, since you don't party at all?" He asked me out of the blue.
"Rose wanted me to join her, so for once I agreed. Even though I hate it." I grumbled. My eyes landed on the beer in his hand. I plucked it out of his hand and set it down on the counter.
"I don't need to take care another drunk Elliot now." I teased at him.
"It was a once time thing, I won't let it happen again." He rolled his eyes. I smirked and motioned my hand to signal him to come closer to me. He leaned down lending me his ear.
"So are you going to tell me why you are avoiding me?" I asked him. I saw his eye slightly widen and he faced me.
"I'm not avoiding you, and even if I was shouldn't you be happy?" He questioned.
"I should be happy, but I'm not it bothered me for some reason. I don't think I hate you as much anymore." I spoke honestly.

Elliot looked into my eyes and it was intense. I wanted to look away but I couldn't, it was as if I was being pulled in from some unknown force. Though until I felt some wet liquid spilled on my hand. I looked to the side to see a drunken girl leaning against Elliot. Her drink spilled on Elliot and even on me. Her hand grabbed onto his shoulder and she looked up at him.
I think I felt something snap in me.
"Elliot there you are." She slurred out.
"Someone looks like they drank a little too much." Elliot muttered as he held the girl up. She look like she would pass out any moment.
"You know her?" I asked and helped hold her up. I noticed when I tried to help she would just move closer to Elliot.
"Not really I think her name is Elizabeth. She's hammered I think I'm going to take her to one of the rooms upstairs she she can rest." Elliot said as he held her up. I nodded my head and he started to guide the girl out of the kitchen. I titled my head to the side she smelt like she had alcohol but more like on her clothes. Like her mouth, I didn't smell any at all.
I walked out of the kitchen and scanned the room. People were dancing their life away and I started to drown out the music. My eyes looked up towards the railing upstairs. I saw two men I've never seen in my life, not only that but they were looking down at the hall intently.
My pace was slow at first until I started make a full sprint up the stairs. When I got to the top I made my way down the hall following Elliot's scent. A hand grabbed my shoulder stopping me and it was the two men.
"Let me go." I commanded. They looked at each other before one of them swung at me. I moved my head back and grabbed one of them by the face and slammed his head against the railing. I looked at the other guy with a murderous look. There was commotion coming from the kitchen. Rose walked out dragging two unconscious girls behind her. She looked up at me and nodded her head.
The other guy try to attack me but I moved out of the way and grabbed the back of his neck. Then I practically pushed him down the stairs and he went down tumbling. Rose met him at the end of the step and gave him a rather sadistic smile.
The partygoers took wind of the situation and started to run out. I took my attention back to the main mission. I followed Elliot's scent to a room down the hall. I didn't hear anything at all and I slammed opened the door. The girl was on top of Elliot holding a knife to his neck, he was looking at her blankly as he held he wrist back with ease.
Seems like he got it taken care of.
Elizabeth glanced back for a moment before jumping off of him and swinging her knife at me. I dodged it in time and took out the knife from my waist band. Elliot got up from the floor and was standing behind her with a menacing look. She was practically trapped between us no escape whatsoever.
She took something out from her pockets and held it above her head. It registered what it was and I tackled her to the floor. It was too late as a bright flash lit up the room blinding me. I felt her fist connect with my face and I still couldn't see anything. I grabbed her by the neck and then I felt a sharp pain on the side of my torso. I shook my head to clear my vision and when I did I looked down to see a knife stuck on the side of torso. I gritted my teeth and faced her. I put more force on her neck and she grabbed my wrist trying to get free.
"Who are you working for?" I seethed at her. Elliot was holding head in pain and he looked over towards us.
"As if I'll tell you." She gasped for air and I saw a white pill in her mouth. She closed her mouth shut and I tried to open her mouth up with my hand I did manage to. However it was late and she was foaming by the mouth. I clicked my tongue and got off of her and grabbed the knife in my hand. I pulled it out and I seethed in pain. A silver knife, this won't heal nicely at all.
"I'm going to kill whoever did this!" Elliot yelled and I saw his eye flicker brown to silver.
"Hey we're here!" My brothers ran in with Rose besides them. At least she's safe that's good to know. I laid down on the floor and pointed at Elliot.
"Calm him down, that flash bang disoriented him." I gestured toward him. Toby and Jay listened to me and went to Elliots aid.
I tried to focus on my wound and attempted to heal it but it was a failure. I was losing blood and the silver knife didn't help at all. I pressed my hand against the wound trying to slow down the bleeding.
"This mission was a failure by the way." I said before completely blacking out.

The Mortal Acts
The Mortal Acts is an epic progression fantasy with a lower focus on training aspects and a great focus on discovering new ways of using powers intelligently. I've always been drawn to stories where characters use their powers creatively to overcome opponents and obstacles, and I think all the possibilities can provide a great playground for twists and turns. It's inspired by a variety of media, including Will Wight's Cradle, Hunter x Hunter, and Bioshock, so if you like the creative power use elements from those, come check it out. This is my first serial, and please feel free to leave comments and feedback. For backstory, behind-the-scenes, and other fun stuff, come chat on my discord! Become a patron to read up to 20 chapters ahead here! Blurb: Riven Morell cuts short his regular life at school and home when his mother falls terminally ill. Desperate to find a cure, he travels to Severance Frontier, a desolate land haunted by hordes of ghosts, witches, and demons collectively called the Deathless. But a miraculous cure doesn’t magically fall into his hands. Things are worse in Severance Frontier than Riven had assumed. Ghosts are banding together into armies, demons are kidnapping anyone who strays out of settlements, and witches are enslaving everyone left and right. Riven, of course, gets embroiled in the mess. Missions to curb the Deathless activity are one thing, but when it starts to look like this is just the beginning of a war that extends beyond the mortal realm, Riven has a hard time focusing on why he came to Severance Frontier in the first place. His mother is inching towards death with every passing day, but if he doesn’t face down the Deathless, what little civilization the Frontier holds will be overrun and destroyed. Thankfully, it looked like the Deathless might just hold the secret of the elusive cure.
