《Sugar Boo》7

"Andrew?" A voice called me, a guy's thick and velvety voice broke my concentration while I was looking down at my Spanish textbook.

"Hm?" I hummed a reply and looked up to a pair of familiar hazel eyes, so exquisite I had never seen one of any kind anywhere before except his.

Steve had a panicked look on his face and his perfectly shaped eyebrows were shot up. "Are we having a quiz?" he asked.

"No." I shook my head, slightly confused by his strange behavior.

The guy pursed his lips and rubbed his chin with two fingers. "It looks like you're preparing for one."

"Nerd," Steve muttered and my mouth nearly became agape.

I muttered back 'Asshat' just loud enough for him to hear while he strode to his friend's desk at the back. I believe Steve caught that because he let out a small chuckle afterward.

Although he liked to call me with silly names, Steve did not once cross the limit by saying insensitive or hurtful things to me and I'm glad he still could maintain a line of respect between us even when we were throwing friendly insults at each other.

On a totally random side note, I knew I've always preferred him over Kaden and Kaleb for that reason.

"He's right though. You are the class nerd," said a girl with a heavily lacquered beehive hairstyle sitting next to me.

I took no notice of her comment and chose to resume my reading. I rather got myself to be enticed with the beauty of the Spanish language than arguing with someone who was stuck in the 60s. Shortly afterward, another human nuisance stopped by my desk.

I sighed. "If you want to ask me whether we have a quiz or not, the answer is no," I said without looking at whoever was towering before me.

"I see you've taken seriously my demand to not be around Ethan." The hairs on the back of my neck literally stood up when his voice winded its way to my ears and the awful things he'd said to me two days ago came rushing to my mind at full speed.

"Please leave me alone," I pleaded with a lowered head, anxiety creeping up my spine.

Kaleb, however, pulled up a chair from a desk nearby and straddled it backward. He crossed his arms on the back of the chair and rested his chin on there, laughing lowly.

"Now why would I want to listen to you?" he asked, mockery in his voice.

I dared myself to meet his bewitching blue eyes. "What else do you want from me? I did what you asked."

The amused glint in his eyes denoted that he had found pleasure from my discomfort. "True, but not completely. I saw you coming out from his Jeep this morning."

"Olivia won't share her car with me. That's why Ethan gives me a lift to school every day. I have no choice," I replied argumentatively.

"There could be a good alternative solution for you," he suggested with a tight-lipped smile. "Ride with me."
