The perfect temperature outside made the sunset so much better. It was so quiet and peaceful I decided to grab a pair of chairs for me and Midas so we can admire it together.
I motioned Midas to seat himself. As he did I stared at the calm sunset water around us.
"It's so beautiful, I could just live out here" I breathe in.
"Well in that case I'll get Meowscles to move your furniture out here then" Midas joked.
I let out a short laugh, not expecting him to have a sense of humor. Bad or good.
"Yeah yeah" I roll my eyes playfully. I look over at the doorway and see Maya with a bowl and bottle of slurp juice.
"Oh hey Maya, come to join us?" I smile.
She returns the gesture and hands me the bowl and bottle.
"No but thanks, I'm gonna help Skye hang up her corkboard. I just came to give desert before its gone"
(Most Midas x Readers write Maya as an A-Hole but I imagine her like this :) )
"Oh no worries, Thank you!" She glances at Midas then me before wiggling her eyebrows then walking off. I cover my embarrassed red face with my bowl of ice cream.
As I take a bite I realize something "Hey wait, why didn't you get any?"
"I've never had it, I'm not the sugary type"
"Wait you've never had ice cream!?" I gasp. "I'm disappointed"
Midas lets out a short laugh. "As a child my parents convinced me that sugar would make your teeth fall out"
"Wow, you're missing out" I smile. I rest my hand on the arm rest before Midas volunteers to take my bowl as he does his eyes lock onto my row of scars along my forearm.

"You didn't...do those yourself, correct?"
"Oh no no, we did a ton of practice fighting with knifes and stuff, a handful of them are from quote on quote 'punishments' if we don't do as expected" I explain.
Midas shakes his head, "The plan was to claim the whole island but we ended up having to save people instead. It's unfortunate"
I hum in agreement. I look over and watch the last sliver of the sun sink behind the mountains.
'I kinda want to stargaze tonight' I think to myself.
"I have no memory of how I received this scar" Midas points to the large scar responsible for glazing his eye.
I decided to stay silent and keep the questions to myself. I didn't want to make him uncomfortable since I know how mysterious pasts usually work.
I break out of my thoughts when Midas stands up and folds his chair.
"That was a lovely chat but I sadly have some paperwork to catch up on. I will speak to again in the morning, go down to the foyer and spend some time with the other agents, get to know them all"
I nod with a smile "Will do"

Disclaimer This story is: 1) Extremely violent and graphic. 2) Still in a rough draft stage. I see what I am writing more like a synopsis than a fully fledged story. I periodically will go back to flesh out earlier chapters, build characters, etc... If you find the words "Show don't tell," comforting accept that unfortunately, I'm not at that stage of the writing process yet. 3) At one point this story was called "Standard Reincarnation Story," and I had written an extremely off-putting description of the story. This was mostly to keep out people who would just read the silly first few chapters then rage quit as soon as the violent stuff got started. Since I just had my first .5 star rating (without a page read count increase) that technique is not working, so I might as well treat this as a regular fiction and try to get regular readers.
