《Fortnite: The Great Flood》Chapter 5: The Authority (Part 1)

Jules was very, very excited. Well, also a bit nervous, but that was overruled by the excitement.

This was because today was the day that Jules began doing undercover at The Authority.

Of course, making gadgets for Ghost was fun, but it wasn't as fun or, in Jules' opinion, as helpful as being actually in the field. Midas needed every scrap of information he could get, and Jules wanted to help.

Jules just hoped that she wasn't walking into a trap. If Chaos Agent knew about her being a Ghost agent, it could be it for her.

But that wasn't going to happen. She was going to be fine.

And, if she wasn't fine, Skye would come and save her despite Ollie's best efforts to tell her that getting involved was a bad idea. That was the sort of thing Skye would do.

Meanwhile, Chaos Agent was making some of his own preparations with his trusted agent Omega. He was trained to kill any Shadow agent on the spot if they stepped out of line.

he asked Omega seriously.

"Of course, sir. Keep and eye on Jules and kill her if she does anything suspicious," Omega replied casually.

"Good."

"Aight. See ya, Chaos."

Agent."

"Sure, grandpa. I'll report anything I see."

"Farewell, Prince Chaos of Agent."

Chaos Agent sighed and shook his head as Omega left his office. He was very tempted to shoot Omega as soon as he caught sight of him, but he was a very valuable for Shadow, and Chaos Agent wouldn't harm the chances for a successful business choice.

Even though he had serious attitude. Chaos Agent hated that with every single fibre of his being.

"Good luck. Hope you don't die," Skye shrugged.

"Oh, you know me, I won't die," Jules giggled.

She was wearing a new uniform of her design; a pair of black denim dungarees with the Shadow logo embroidered on them. She also had a robber-style mask with a skull in case she had to anything secret, although it wouldn't disguise her within The Authority.

Ohm flew over to Jules, hooting a melodic tune and an ring on her outstretched arm. Jules smiled.

"Hey Skye, watch this," Jules grinned.

"OK?" Skye wondered.

Jules pressed a button on Ohm's chest, and all of his metal feathers, head and body folded into an incredibly compact floppy disc. Skye's concern was written on her face like an open book.

"Is he OK?!" she cried.

"He's fine. I've just compacted him for easy travel. I can unfold him using this button here."

Jules pointed to a yellow button on top of the floppy disc.

"Is this so he can go to The Authority with you?"

"Mm hmm."

"OK then."

"Right, I best be going."

"OK. See ya!"

Jules went to the dock and got into one of the boats. As she sped off from The Fortilla, she studied her handiwork on the place. It was pretty good!

Jules meandered her boat around all of the floating islands of trash, making sure to go around Salty Springs to make it seem like she wasn't coming from The Fortilla (although the Shadow henchmen probably saw her anyway), then she headed to a makeshift dock set up on one face of The Authority's dam-like walls.

After using a zipline to get down off the wall, Jules spotted two Shadow agents she had never seen before.

One was like a robot, but she had a feeling he wasn't; with black metal casing and an orange light-up visor for his eyes. She felt that he was meant to be menacing, but in the manner he was now, he wasn't intimidating at all.

The other was a woman. She wore a red dress with red devil glasses and a red beret. She also wore a black belt and matching gloves and leggings. There was so much rubber on her person, that Jules was almost convinced that she was a figurine.

As Jules got closer to the pair, they began to turn to her.

"Oh, there she is! Jules, welcome to The Authority!" The woman cheered. She had a very thick French accent.

"Hi there. I've never actually... seen you before. Who are you people?" Jules asked.

She smiled to herself. She had forgotten how good it felt to be powerful.

"Well, dear, I'm Rue. I've been working at Shadow for about a month now. This is Omega. He seems all scary in his robot suit, but I promise you he isn't that bad."

"I'm not that bad," Omega nodded.

"We're here to keep an eye on you. Chaos Agent is considering the idea that you were at Steamy Stacks, but we know that you weren't. You couldn't have been," Rue shrugged.

"Well, I'm here to keep an eye on you. Rue's just helping me out. But I'm sure it's nothing, and in a week things'll be normal again."

"OK..." Jules replied. She really hoped they didn't pick up on how nervous she was.

"Let's hop along, then!" Rue grinned.

They began to walk into the building and through the front office. Jules didn't have a clue where they were going, but she followed nonetheless.

They turned down a corridor which led to a large vault in the same place of The Agency's vault, then they went to the right of the vault... to a wall.

"What are we doing here?" Jules asked them.

Rue turned to Jules and grinned.

"Say your name," she said.

"My name? Why?"

"Just do it."

"Jules...?"

To Jules' surprise, the wall opened up completely to reveal a hidden room. And this hidden room made Jules gasp, then smile from ear to ear.

"I can't just sit here and do nothing!" Skye cried.

Ocean and Ollie exchanged looks. Skye wanted to go to The Authority to help Jules, but Ollie wouldn't allow it.

"Skye, I understand that you want her to be OK, but being there to see if she will be OK will put her in serious danger, even more than before," Ollie shook his head.

"I know, but danger's my thing."

"That's true, but I can't allow you to go to The Authority."

"What do you propose we even do?" Ocean butted in.

"Well, something other than sitting on our butts here."

"Well, yeah, obviously. But do you have a plan?"

"Disguises? You can fool anyone with a good disguise."

"Yes! We can knock some Shadow henchmen out and grab their clothes. And their weapons, too; don't want to look out of place!"

"Wait, are you seriously endorsing this?!" Ollie cried.

"Yup."

"Can I come?" TnTina shouted.

Skye, Ocean and Ollie startled. How long had she been standing there?

"If you want. Did you hear everything we said?" Skye shrugged.

"I heard enough to know what's happening."

"Good enough."

"Wait, no no no! Nobody is going to The Authority today, thank you," Ollie folded his arms.

There was a pause.

"If I say no, you'll come with me anyway, won't you?" Skye finally said.

"...Yes."

"Then it's settled. Let's meet up at the dock in an hour."

Ollie made some sort of annoyed groaning noise, then let his head sink onto the table.

It was her own workshop in The Authority! Jules could not have been happier.

According to Rue and Omega, Chaos Agent wanted Jules to make something in her new workshop to see if everything worked as it was meant to. Jules had made a Revolver and a grenade (both put to test in a shooting range; they worked properly) in an extremely quick 2 hours, both of which she was quite proud of.

Due to work, Rue had to disappear to her work, but she said she'd be back for lunch. That was in another 2 hours.

But, for now, Omega and Jules talked.

Well, not really, they were just looking at each other awkwardly, but they had free time on their hands.

"I actually have loads of things to talk about, but Chaos Agent doesn't want me saying anything to you about Shadow," Omega shrugged.

"Just tell me something. I'm bored," Jules sighed.

"Well, Chaos Agent likes that The Authority is where it is."

"Well yeah. It's valuable Ghost land."

"No, not because of that."

Julee cocked her head to one side.

"Why, then?"

"He thinks that some powerful thing called a Zero Point was under The Agency, and when it blew up, he seized the opportunity to take the spot for his own."

A Zero Point? What was that?

"What is this Zero Point?"

"It's a big orb that has the power to create portals in the form of cracks. It has the ability to reset this whole island!"

Whatever this Zero Point was, it was obviously powerful. Jules was intrigued. She had to use Omega to get every scrap of information on it.

Skye sliced her sword into four oblivious Shadow henchmen to get their dusguises and weapons. Skye, Ollie, TnTina and Ocean fitted themselves into the uniforms and ditched all of their stuff in a bush next to an abandoned Shadow outpost next to Weeping Woods... or what was left of Weeping Woods.

They crossed the hill around Weeping Woods so that The Authority was in sight.

"There it is," Ocean muttered.

"I wish there was a boat," Ollie grumbled.

"We can swim it," Skye shrugged.

"You can. I think that you forgot that I'm about 70% fluff."

"You'll dry. Come on!"

They all swam across the lake (Ollie reluctantly following) and hefted themselves onto the wall around The Authority.

Skye shivered. Why did the wind have to be so cold?

A Shadow henchman looked at the four agents suspiciously as they headed to a zipline to get down to the main building. Skye figured that he was wondering why they were swimming rather than using a Choppa or motorboat.

It wasn't seconds before they were in The Authority.

"Wow. This place isn't just like The Agency, it is The Agency," TnTina bit her lip.

"If you don't include the wall, the extra floor and the new colour scheme," Skye corrected, but really she knew that TnTina was right. Even the front desk was in the exact same position.

"I wonder if the vault is in the same position, too?" Ollie asked mainly to himself.

"Let's go see!" Skye smiled.

They all went down the steps to the right where they all (other than Ocean, who had never been to The Agency) remembered the original vault being. And it was there, good as new.

But that wasn't what caught their attention the most.

The wall to the right was wide open, revealing a large workshop and two agents. One was a man with a robot suit made of a black metal with an orange glowy visor. The other was Jules, who was eyeing the four of them suspiciously.

"Yes?" Jules grumbled.

"Agent Jules! Chaos Agent said that he wanted to see how you were getting on and sent us to escort you to his new office," Skye stated.

"OK..."

"Should I go with her?" The robot-suit man asked.

"Sorry, he just wants Jules."

"See ya, Omega," Jules shrugged.

"Bye," the robot-suit man, apparently called Omega waved, then left.

Skye led Jules and the others to a room labelled Storage and went into the cramped room, which was even more cramped thanks to there being five of them.

"This is not Chaos Agent's office. Do you idiots even know where you're going?" Jules groaned.

"Jules, it's us!" Ollie said.

Jules looked at each one of them with a spark of recognition. She gritted her teeth and narrowed her eyes.

"I swear, if one of you is Skye..."

Skye removed her mask and smiled at Jules in a friendly manner. And Skye thought that she'd never seen Jules so angry.
