《Secrets of the State》City that never sleeps

Falicano had headed off to find Nixon who he had befriended over the last few days, he also learnt that the boy was an insomniac because of his main city, NYC witch has been dubbed 'The City That Never Sleeps.'
He also discovered that a few of the states had that issue, state related and self related. But Nixon was the one who it affected the most due to his stay up late sleep all day lifestyle that many early risers despised.
"Ve? Nixon?" He asked knocking on the teen's door.
"Come in" Nixon said his voice sleep riddled. Falicano pushed open the door to be met with a dark room that had string lights running along the edges of the walls and along his desk.
"Hi Mr Falicano" Nixon greeted turning in his chair and using his foot to turn on the lights and turn off the string ones. How? Floor remote!
"What can I help you with?" Nixon asked.
"Oh yeah! What's her name, It started with an M, but she used some weird magic stuff to make us see what you see!" Falicano said waving around his hands as he talked.
"Really? Sounds cool. I'm cooped up doing paperwork sadly. You can ask one of the younger kids to show you around. Edward is normally willing and Viddy is always happy to help but she can be eccentric at times. Especially when she might be able to record things. Maybe Alabama is free." Nixon explained, "Best to ask around the different people here and see who's willing."
"Ok!" WIth that Faliciano ran out of the New Yorker's room being mindful of the cord minefield
Lovino and Feliciano crashed into each other.
"Watch it bastard!" "Language!" Maine called throwing a throw pillow at Lovino. Nothing got past Maine. NOTHING. Mildly terrifying, but Lovino wasn't about to ask questions when most of the states had the ability to kill an entire city with no regrets. Not the people he tends to piss off.

Suddenly two, very girly, screams came from the backyard.
Alfred and Matthew sprinted to the backyard, Jackson already out there. They saw Gilbert carefully sat on the top of the barn and something trying to get at them.
"Oh, that" Alfred sighed he fired a shot close to the creature but are enough away not to hit it. It got spooked and ran away.
"What the bloody hell was that?!" Arthur asked.
"Oh, just a nightmare" Matthew sighed relieved. It was far too early to smash something's head in.
"A night- WhAT?!" "A nightmare eh, they try to get after the kids"
"Daddy!" Makanui cried as Gilbert climbed down and setting the hawaiian down. She bolted right to Alfred. Alfred slipped her into his jacket where she huddled contently.
"It's alright, i'm right here" Alfred said zipping up his jacket.
"I'll be back" Was all Austin said when he left, got into his truck (Thanks Tony) and drove. He'd texted Alfred a moment before starting the engine that he was going on a drive. He just wanted to drive, to get away from people. He didn't want to deal with people. He didn't like people, he could hardly stand people.
He drove down the road until he saw some people pulled over on the side. He pulled to a stop, he knew these people, it had been years but he knew them. Belgium and Netherlands. He changed his hair quickly, now he was blonde and his hair was cut short, but he couldn't get rid of that damn curl. He pulled on his hat effectively hiding the damn curl and got out of the truck.
"Need a hand?" He asked getting their full attention.
"Yes please!" Belgium chirped, she didn't want to be stranded in the middle of a forest. Netherlands huffed but let him. Austin looked under the hood then laughed, fixed a few things, small things that made the engine sound worse then It was.

"There," Austin said and got back into his truck. He could feel his heart being squeezed just being around more people, curse him being southern. He gave a wave before driving off again.
"Strange" Belgium commented, "He looked familiar"
"Forget it, we have to get there before Jackson starts calling us" Netherlands muttered getting in the car and starting it. Belgium got in and they drove off.
-----
Austin continued to drive, he just drove. His snowboarding gear in the back and he drove. He wanted mountains. He needed a way to clear his head. He got to the mountain range and started his trek up to the peak, safety be damned.

The Immortal Epic
After all that happened... I do think I would thank dr Errhart if I were back to the day this all started, knowing all that happened after. Of course, if I were back on the day this all started with the implied knowledge, I would take and play with his soul in retribution. Oh, how have I grown since then. I'm almost nostalgic. Almost. To tell you the truth, I don't really remember the first days. Yes, I remember me working at the facility, with all the downs and downs but after the experiment, those first days afterwards, I can't bring for the life of me those moments in the cold dark broken room to mind. I never did discover what happened during the experiment. What could occur to burn the whole facility to a crisp and shut down both the main and emergency power supply? Dr Errhart always seemed to fail in impossible ways. When I got out of that underground tomb, I discovered what the experiment did to the world. Beast and monsters feed on the unprotected if left to fester, powerful men from the remnants of my old world have risen up to take their own and might takes up new forms. Oh, and here you must be perplexed. I totally forgot to tell. While the experiment doomed many in the facility and the world above, which wouldn't have happened had they not ignored my notes on the project, I feel like it was all worth it. YAOS 1 - Limitless Adventures - Yet Another OP Story Book 1
December 23rd 2018: Book 1 is now up at Smashwords and at Amazon. December 30th 2018: V1.1.2 of YAOS Book 1 is out, some content additions, fixed typos. Amazon's enhanced typesetting now displays tables properly. YAOS is shown through the eyes of some genius athlete getting OP inside a VR, ah wait, Full Immersion game, ?F.I.O?. Not a Hero, not a Nerd, just a driven individual paying for mistakes made, biding time until he can return to the Real World. He isn't defined like you'd normally do it, you can pick his looks and name all on your own, just like you do in video games. Believe it or not, keeping his looks undefined is harder than you think. His backstory isn't expounded in detail, but it drives his choices. Book 1 isn't about depressing sob stories but about fun and rushing forward, pursuing new horizons. Oh, and you'll end on a cliffhanger! Well, most serials do, so you will probably expect that without being told explicitly. But it isn't that bad, there's a lot of reveals and more to come once this book, that is the first in a planned three-part series, is finally ready for release on amazon et al. The published version will have: 1.) Godawful speaker tags, I hate them, they make you stop thinking and speed up editing so much. In hindsight they should have been in to begin with. But I stand by my goals proclaimed earlier. You guys should think while reading, that is the whole point of the exercise. Apply the knowledge and ideas, improve yourself, get creative! 2.) Pretty colored tables, the damned blue boxes, a lot of work, 69 in one book. Finally fixed amazon's centering issue. Can't say I liked the hours needed to debug that. 3.) The promised Mitara chapters. 4.) A cover! 5.) And lastly, updated polished versions of several chapters. MC shares more of his past, some terrible chapters (esp. 32) finally work. Some new scenes, minor rewrites in parts. Text flow and other issues. The current challenge is to maintain essential ambiguity while satisfying people wanting to know more without thinking three steps ahead. Balancing one with the other is tough. The smut which was in remains, but the story told is not to be superseded by it. A 15+ rating for the first book is also important, not to mention, YAOS wasn't meant to contain any smut to begin with. If the Author can turn to writing full time his output should increase, so please support YAOS #1 once it does finally release. ~Thank You~ No maps so far, that should be in, but is really hard to get done right. Again, tips are appreciated. Update September 2017: Stubbed chapters, sorry guys, currently don't have time to upload them elsewhere, polishing book 1 and 2, writing 3, takes precedence. Book 1 is in heavy editing, too much to keep synced and continuing editing. I'd need a site which offers JS-free rapid managing of chapters and comments. Coding one myself or setting a premade up is out of scope until I'm done with the books. RRL-old offered that, nuff said. This is only here because the author believes in fairies, nobody reads this, most likely. October to December 2017: Life threw some curveballs. February 2018: Book 2 draft 1 completed, at ~150K words. Book 2 is fairly epic in scope, requires 1 rewritten chapter, some editing. Tables and miscellanea are in, but needs at least a grammar pass. March 2018: Book 3 at 28k words, first arc, rest needs serious planning for spin-off and satisfying conclusion. July 2018: Yet another proofing/editing session of books 1-3, 101+ chapters, ~300k words. B3 at 48k, starts out great, but no ETA, no wordcount limit, in flux. But prioritizing my writing cannot be done, I hate the delays as much as you, but you will prefer the whole released in a timely fashion rather than wait. Knowing myself how excruciating waiting can be, at least you'll get significantly polished versions and an ETA on book 2 by release of book 1. December 23rd 2018: Book 1 is now up at Smashwords and in the process at Amazon et. al.. . To all who wait patiently, offered feedback, thanks again!
