"Fuck! I hate it! Ugh!!!" I punched the wall, irritably.
"Davies have you lost your damn mind?! What the hell are you doing?!" My sister Liana came into my room.
"Lia, what are you doing here?!" I asked.
"I came to visit you...since you moved out of your old house you never came to visit me!" Hurt was evident in her voice.
"I am sorry, Lia."
"Whatever! Why are you behaving like a maniac—hitting your knuckles on the wall?! What happened? Tell me!" She demanded.
"Nothing! Now please, will you leave me alone?!" I grabbed a file from the nearby table.
"Cut the crap! Tell me what happened?!" She snatched the file from my hand and slammed it on the table.
"I like someone..." I sighed in distress.
"And?"
"And she's fucking married!" I lost my cool.
"Wow! I am speechless!" She sat next to me.
"How did it happen?" She inquired.
"I fell in love with the very moment I saw her... in the mall. She was there with her friend...I thought she was interested in me as she kept looking in my direction..but in reality, she's blind—
Lia chuckled. "I am sorry...I didn't mean to laugh but you can't just assume that someone's interested in you!"
I glared at Lia and walked away from her.
"Okay okay I am sorry please continue..." she apologized.
"I met her again on the same day. During-around the evening, she got lost...she took the wrong bus...I took her to my old house and then she told me about her husband...my heart ached when she told me about her husband. I called her husband—Even though I don't have any right, it broke me to see her hands wrapped around him...after that, I never saw her...I tried to forget her but destiny had its own plan...now I am her doctor...today I found out that she pregnant with his baby...they both looked happy! And I just stood there with her pregnancy report in my hand...staring at them god knows for how many minutes! I hate it!—I hate it, how much they love each other...I hate how she loves him! How I wished that I was him?!" I drank the whiskey and slammed the glass on the table.
"This is that serious?!..oh my god! You're so whipped! You can't have feelings for—she's married and a soon-to-be mother of someone's else baby! How can you fall for her?!" Liana said concernedly.
"I can't help it! But I can love her from far..."
"Davies...you can't do that to yourself...it will crush you!" She said hugging me.
"I know..." I mumbled.
____________
"I am so happy for guys...congrats once again!" Anjali said.
"Thank you, di." We replied.
"Okay, I gotta go now..."
"Alright, See you soon," I said.
"Bye, take care."
-
"Diya, did you take your medicine?" I asked.
"Yes, I did." She smiled.
"Good—
My phone rang in my pocket interrupting while I was about to say something to Diya.
I hurriedly pulled the phone out of my pocket and glared at the screen for a sec then focusing on Diya.
"Diya, I have to take this call," I said. In response, she nodded softly and sat on the couch.
_____
"Hello, dad?"
"Anuraag I need you urgently at the office! We have gotten a big contract from the Harrington Enterprises! Mr. Liam Harrington is coming to our office in two hrs I need you to be here ASAP!" Dad said excitedly.
"I will be there by 3:30 pm—in 20 minutes to be exact!" I glanced at my Rolex as I talked through the phone.
"Perfect! See you then!" Dad said.
"Yup!" I hung up the call.
"Diya I have to go the office, Jiya will be here with you," I said.
"Okay,"
"Don't worry I will be back in 2-3 hrs! Then we can go for dinner." I said hugging her. She rested her head against my chest. I placed my hand on her belly and smiled.
"Don't miss me too much!" She yelled from behind.
"Oh trust me I am going to!" I replied back enthusiastically.
.
It's been almost three months since I got to know about my pregnancy, at first I was scared. 'What if he didn't want to be a parent so soon?' I knew he was worried about my eyes sight treatments- that I couldn't continue my treatments due to my pregnancy. He even asked me if I wanted this baby. Honestly, I was scared when he asked me that question, I heard his heart beating, and anxiousness in his voice and that very moment I knew, he wanted this baby as much as I wanted.
Now we both are happy, so is our family; his mom still didn't accept me completely but she came to meet me last week, she warned if I hurt him she will never forgive me.
"Diya, my brother sent me to babysit you," Jiya said, uninterestingly.
"Oh..," I felt a little hurt by her tone.
How can I forget that she also doesn't me like too?
"I am sorry Jiya, it's okay if you don't want to—
"Don't flatter yourself—I am not here because of you, I am here because my brother wanted me here—with you!"
I didn't say anything as I heard her going towards the kitchen and pouring something for herself in the glass.
"Jiya, I have something for you—
"Diya I don't want anything—especially from you." She said apathetically.
"Oh, I thought—
"Do me a favor and don't try to talk to me. I will be in the living room. If it's an emergency then just call my name until then don't bother me!" With that, she left.
I stood there tears in my eyes.
"Damn these hormones!" I wiped my cheek.
"Mrs. Peterson, I have sent the contract to you, please read all the terms and conditions and if you need to make any changes, please let me know," I said.
"Ok Mr. Angnihotri, thank you very much, have a nice day." She replied.
"Thank you, bye," I said before ending the call.
I looked at the wall clock, it was 9:00 pm, I hurriedly packed my briefcase and rushed towards my car.
Driving through the exit, I merged into the busy-traffic.
"Diya must be waiting for me, I promised her dinner tonight!" I mumbled to myself anxiously.
I played the radio on low volume, it was playing Shawn Mendes's song "life of the party". It calmed me a little down until I found myself thinking about her, today she didn't call me, not even once...strange!
She must be getting along with my little sister very well. Hopefully.
After reaching home, I parked my car and walked inside hurriedly.
When I entered the main hall, I saw Jiya watching tv while enjoying some popcorn along with an opened pop-can.
Without disturbing her I went to Diya's room.
"Diya?" As I called her name a smile formed on my lips automatically.

"Diya! Oh god!" I ran frantically toward her, she was lying on the floor, her hands were wrapped her stomach like she was in pain.
My eyes widened in fear when I noticed blood on the floor.
Without wasting any time, I lifted her in my arms, her eyes were closed and her face was pale.
"Diya—please open your eyes. I am here with you!" Tears fell from my eyes as I placed her in the car. Jiya sat next to her, I drove as fast as I could.
"Call doctor Tara!" I yelled at one of the nurses.
"Calm down Sir! And doc Tara is not here!" She replied.
"What's happening here?!"
"Doctor Lucas," I rushed toward him.
"Mr. Agnihotri?" He approached me with fast steps.
"Please save her—she's bleeding!" I rambled on my words as I couldn't compose myself.
"Don't worry nothing will happen to her!" He said.
"Mr. Agnihotri, you can meet her." A nurse said.
"Okay.." I nodded, blankly.
"Diya..."
She didn't respond with anything. I placed my hand on her hand. "Love, please...talk to me.." I said once again in a pleading tone.
She removed her hand abruptly and stayed silent.
"Take me home, I don't want to be here anymore.." she said apathetically.
I was shocked by her tone, she never talked to me like this before.
"Okay, If that's what you want.," I replied in defeat.
"Now please hurry!" She said irritably.
I walked out of the room, "Hello, can I take Diya home?" I asked the receptionist.
"No Sir, she's not well, we still need to do some tests."
"Tests?" I asked.
"Sir—
"Mr. Agnihotri, please come with me, I need to discuss something important with you," Lucas said, interruptedly.
I followed him, I was confused that what was going on?! First Diya's change of behavior and now this.
"Anuraag...I know you have lots of questions—so I will tell you without wasting any time." He said.
"Diya had a miscarriage. She's no longer pregnant." His word echoed in ears.
"That's not possible—our baby is fine!" I stood up from the chair.
"I am sorry for your loss."
"W-Will s-she be f-fine?" Tears threatened in my eyes as my voice broke.
"Yes, you can take her home tomorrow." He said reassuringly.
"I have to be with her!" I walked toward her room and stopped when I noticed her still sitting the way I left her.
I halted towards her and hugged her. She didn't move a bit.
"Please say something..."
"I don't know what to say." She replied blankly.
_____
It's been two weeks since we lost our unborn child, she still hasn't shown any emotions, no grief, and no tears. Every time I see her sitting alone break my heart.
"Tara, I am taking her to the hospital, she's not eating well, and still not showing any emotion. It's scaring me."
"Don't worry, everything will be fine." She replied.
"I hope so."
"How are you Diya?" I asked.
"Good." She replied blankly.
I knew she was lying, she might not show any emotions whatsoever but I can see her pain. I was feeling an urge to embrace her and tell her that everything will be fine. But we both are standing on different sides and paths.
"Diya, why don't you wait here, until I and Anuraag come back with your prescriptions," I said. Still no response from her.
"Anuraag, I am afraid to tell you that she's suffering from PTSD. I can recommend some therapists." I said, concernedly.
"That will be really helpful, thanks again." He replied with a stoic look.
________
"You drinking again?" My Sister asked as she placed her keys on the table.
"What are you doing here Liana?" I asked turning towards her still holding a glass of whiskey in my hand.
"I was passing by, thought I should check on you—how's she though?" Liana asked changing the topic.
"There is no progress....she still hasn't shown any signs of grief." I sipped alcohol.
"You know it's not your problem, she's just your patient and you're her doc—
"Can you please shut it! I have told you so many times that I can't control what I feel for her okay!?" I said in anger. "I just want to help her." I sighed in distress.
"Look at yourself! You look like a miserable lover! And you want to help her?! She's has lost her child! God forbid me, you may be a doc but not a parent to understand what it's like to lose their child!?! If you want to help her, then understand deeply what's she going through—the pain must be indescribable..." Liana trailed off as she broke into tears.
I felt bad, I knew why exactly she was crying, I shouldn't have told her about it.
"Liana I am sorry. I am such a terrible person." I hugged her.
A few years ago when she got pregnant with her first child, Liana and her husband were very happy and excited to start their family of own.
She didn't suffer any complication in her pregnancy but her child was stillborn.
"Please don't cry Liana," I said. "I am sorry."
"It's not your fault, it's no one's fault. That was destined to happen. Promise me, Davies, you will help her." She said.
"I promise.," I replied.
"Mom, please be nice, she's—
"I am telling you, son, don't believe her! She must have done this to her self! Jiya was here why didn't she called for any help?! I am going to talk to her by myself and you are staying here!" Mom said angrily.
"No mom! You are not talking to her—at least not with this tone of yours!" I stood between her and the door.
"Oh! Do whatever you want, I am going to talk to her!" She shoved me out her way and marched inside the room, locking it from inside.
I ran upstairs and tried to find an extra key for the door lock, hurriedly.
When I found the key, I ran back downstairs and opened the door frantically.
"Mom...What did say to Diya?" I asked demandingly.
"Well, I haven't said anything yet! But I know she's pretending...look she's not even grieving...and laughing like a maniac!" Mom said, disgustedly.
I looked at Diya who was smiling, this is the first time I saw any emotion in her but it wasn't what I expected, it was the total opposite.
"Diya," I knelt down near her bed and cupped her face with my hand.
"Tell me Diya why are you smiling?"
"I don't know." She chuckled.
My gaze met my mom, as I was confused by her reaction too.
"Mom, I want you to leave...please," I said.
She looked at me disappointed and turned her heels.
"Doc Lucas, I want you to come to my house, it's urgent," I said on the phone.
"Anuraag...how are you?" Lucas asked as he entered the house.
"Good," I replied vaguely.
"I am sorry I called you this late but it's was urgent—It's about Diya."
He sat on the sofa and placed his briefcase on the glass table.
"What happened to her? Is she alright?!" He sounded concerned.
"Yes, please come with me." I led him to Diya's room.
"She doesn't speak much...and show any signs of grief— but today she laughed... It didn't feel like her." Tears threaten my eyes as I glanced at her.
"I think Anuraag, you should know this. That she's struggling with herself—it's difficult for her to show emotions because she hasn't grieved—tears never left her eyes since that incident...do something...make her cry her emotions out... that's the only way now, it's not that easy, and it wouldn't be that's easy...At least try." Lucas placed his hand on my shoulder, reassuringly.
"I will try my best."
As days past by, I tried my best to talk her...but she didn't react or respond. I couldn't focus on my work, I couldn't sleep, knowing that she's still awake.
—
"Hello, I am here to meet Mr. Agnihotri," I told one of the guards standing by the gate.
"Okay sir, please head inside." He opened the gate.
After parking my car I entered the house. "Hello Anuraag, are you here?" I asked.
"No, sir, Mr. Angnihotri will be here in 20 minutes. He went to his office." A maid said.
"Okay, thanks. I will wait." I walked toward the living. On my way, I heard a crash sudden sound coming from Diya's room.
I ran to her room and opened the door and saw Diya holding a piece of glass—before she could cut her wrist with it, I grabbed her hand.
"What are you doing!?" I yelled.
"Let me die!" She said struggling to let go of her hand.
I abruptly removed the piece of glass from her grip. "Are you out of your mind?!" I held her by shoulders.
"Yes! Now leave me!" She jerked my hand and started to look for the broken glass with her hands.
"What are you doing, Diya?! Think about Anuraag! He loves you!" I said demandingly.
"That's why I don't want to be a burden on him—now please let go of me." She yelled.
"You are not a burden! He fucking loves you!"
"Well, I don't deserve it!" She yelled back.
I don't know what came over me, I closed my eyes and pulled her closer—hugged her, locking her in my embrace as she tried to free herself.
I opened my eyes when she stopped moving. "Diya," I whispered softly.
"I don't deserve to be alive." She sobbed, her tears dripped down her cheeks and wetted my shirt. I held her close. Her fragile body was unable to hold herself as she cried uncontrollably.
"You deserve all the happiness in the world, you hear me?" I said caressing her head.
"I killed my baby....!" She broke in a hysterical cry.
"Why would you think that? Listen to me..you never killed your baby!" I comforted her.
"It was my responsibility to make my baby safe but I failed..." she trailed off, her hand was clung to my shirt as she rested her head against my chest, sobbing.
"You didn't fail..."
"Anuraag was so happy about this baby...he even decorated a room for our baby..." sadness was now taking over her.
I lifted her in my arms and placed on her bed; I went to grab some water for her.
"Here.." I said handing her a glass of water.
"Thank you, Davies."
I nodded and took the glass from her hand and placed it on the side table.
"Diya, Anuraag will be here...I want you to talk to him...tell him what happened, because I think he should know it. He has been very patient with you."
"I know. And I am very sorry for how I behaved with him...that how I treated him." She said wiping her tears.
"Good, take care okay.." I said before making my way out of her room.
"Dave wait. Will you come tomorrow too?" She asked.
I stopped and looked at her. "If you want me to then I will come." I smiled.
"Thanks again, I can definitely have a friend like you by my side."
"No problem, see you tomorrow," I said.
