i see your car leaving every time i close my eyes. i can't sleep, echoes of sirens and unanswered phone calls ringing in my ears. and your old car, jerking violently out of the driveway.

sometimes i dream i was watching, standing by the side as the car hit yours. sometimes i cry, sometimes i scream. sometimes i throw myself in the middle, like i know it's coming, scared and irrational.

but what scares me most is when stand by, when don't do anything at all. when i stand by and let it happen, you die on impact and i watch.
