《5SOS Sickfics》Ashton- Agitated Ankle

The lads of 5 Seconds of Summer were currently hanging out on a hotel room in Perth, with a concert that night. They had nothing at all for the rest of the day and didn't need to be at the venue for 11 hours yet. They were pretty bored. Calum was pestering then to go out for lunch, and, as it was something to do, they agreed in the end.

So they all grabbed their shoes and phones, and headed out. They were all over 20 years old, but mentally, they were about 5. So they decided to race down the corridor, and see who could make it to the stairs first. To begin with, Michael complained and wanted to take the elevator, but he soon agreed. Reluctantly. Luke made it to the stairs first, thanks to his 53 mile long legs. Or that was Calum's excuse on why he lost.

Then, Calum suggested racing down the stairs as well. He will keep on suggesting races until he wins. Ashton was a bit skeptical about that one, saying someone will get hurt, but then he decided it did sound fun, so he joined in. Watching Calum sulk because he lost is definitely the funny part though.

They got about halfway down when Ashton slipped, and landed awkwardly on his ankle. All three of the other lads stopped right away, all making sure that the curly headed lad was alright. Ashton wiggled his ankle for a second, helping it to feel a bit better. He told them that he was alright, but the other three agreed not to run anymore, not just for Ashton's sake, but for the safety of themselves as well.

As they got closer to the ground floor, Ashton's ankle started hurting more than he would like it too. He began limping as they trekked their way through the lobby and out to the car. They got in, the lads asking whether Ashton wanted to go back up to the room, but he refused, telling them that he would be okay. On the way there, Ashton massaged his ankle, making it feel significantly better once they got to lunch.

As they walk through the food court that Calum had chosen for the location of their lunch, the pain in Ashton's ankle kept returning but then fading away again. The lads questioned him about it, as he was occasionally limping slightly, but Ashton told them that it was fine. He didn't want them to call off the concert all because he's got a slightly sore ankle. He really hoped it felt better by the concert, because hitting his bass drum would be quite difficult otherwise.

They ordered the food, then sat down, to wait for it to come. Sitting down helped Ashton's ankle a bit as he wasn't putting any pressure on it that way. Hopefully it will be better by later. It was his right ankle as well, the left wouldn't have been so bad. He needs to put a lot of force onto the bass, which is played with his right ankle. The left only opens the hi-hat. But still.

It was about half an hour before the concert, and Ashton's ankle was giving him hell. It was really painful to walk and drumming in soundcheck definitely didn't help. Calum sat beside Ashton on the couch backstage.

"How's your ankle now?" Calum asked, looking concerned.

"Umm, not too bad." Ashton lied. He doesn't want to lie, but he wants to ruin the concert even less. They probably wouldn't let him perform if they knew how bad it was. Calum left him alone after, going to go talk to one of the crew about something or other. Ashton massaged his ankle while he could, otherwise scrolling through twitter.

When they finally got on stage, playing, Ashton's ankle was a little better due to the massage he had given it before the concert. But as it went on, his ankle got progressively worse. Eventually, he was close to just stopping and running off stage, but he couldn't just bail on his band, on his fans. It would tear him apart forever.

When it was time for Michael to speak, the second break he had for the night, he decided to massage his ankle, like he had done the first break. But his massaging was cut short when Michael said his name as he was reading a couple of signs that the audience were holding up.

"Ashton! Do a backflip!" Michael read out. "I don't think he can. Can you do a backflip Ashton?" Turning to face the lad while speaking into the mic.

"I actually can." Ashton told them, speaking into his mic, his ankle not giving him grief at that moment. All three of the other lads gasped in fake offence.

"And you never bothered to show us?" Luke asked.

"Or even tell us?" Calum added.

"Never crossed my mind to." Ashton shrugged, getting ready to head down to the front, he knew they would ask him to backflip.

"Well, now we have to see this." Michael laughed, Ashton coming down from his place at the drums and standing near the front of the mini runway, facing the crowd, which was going absolutely ballistic. He took a breath.

"I haven't done this in a while, so don't judge me." Ashton laughed. His ankle wasn't giving him hardly any pain at that exact moment, and he thought it would go fine. Ashton quickly jumped up, and did his backflip perfectly, making everyone gasp. But then he landed. And he landed in a very awkward position on his injured ankle. His ankle snapped and he fell to the ground with a scream of pain.

"Holy- Call someone!" Michael screamed, catching the attention of some crew members, who dashed off to call an ambulance. Ashton was crying in pain, with Luke crouched down next to him, trying to calm him down. Calum looked terrified, and had no idea what to do. They needed to get Ashton off the stage, but they didn't want to make Ashton's ankle any worse.

A crew member ran on, with a couple of medics close behind. They carefully got Ashton off stage, leaving his ankle untouched. He was loaded into an ambulance immediately, the lads apologising to their fans, ending the concert early. They got in a car, heading to the hospital to see Ashton.

When they got there, they were asked to sit and wait for a doctor to come out. About 15 minutes later, the doctor did come out, inviting them to go back and see Ashton. The doctor explained to them that Ashton had told them what had happened, including the fact that he had hurt his ankle earlier. The doctor told them that his ankle was probably sprained before he attempted the backflip, due to the degree of the break.

The doctor told them that no surgery would be necessary, but Ashton would need to have his leg in a cast for around 6-8 weeks, no playing drums until he was better. This meant that their tour would have to be paused, but the lads didn't care, all they cared about is that Ashton was going to be okay.
