《5SOS Sickfics》Calum- Bad Breathing
Advertisement
The lads of 5 Seconds Of Summer were up on stage rocking their sock off on their Sounds Good Feels Good tour. They were having a great time, as always. They were currently in Stockholm, Sweden. Despite the slight language barrier, everyone seemed to be having an amazing time. Every person in the audience was singing along to the songs and the lads couldn't be happier.
They were about to perform Jet Black Heart and Calum wasn't feeling his best. The whole concert he had been breathing faster than normal and sometimes it was hard for him to breath. His head, his stomach and his chest hurt. It was hard to hold up the heavy bass that was slung over his shoulders.
Michael was currently trying to get the crowd silent so that he could start the song. The crowd was almost quiet when a series of terrible sounding coughs resounded through the arena. The crowd aww'd in sync at the sound, it was so loud that it was certain that it was one of the four lads. Luke looked over at Calum in the darkness and he could see the lad taking off his bass while coughing.
Luke went over to Calum and held his bass for him while Calum coughed. He patted him on the back and soon it became evident that Calum was not going to stop. Luke gave Michael a signal which meant to continue the concert and that he'd be taking Calum backstage. Michael nodded and started to quieten the audience once again.
Luke took Calum backstage and sat him down. He gave him a bottle of water and Calum took it gratefully, taking a large drink of the liquid. This seemed to calm him down quite a bit. Luke grabbed a tissue box and handed it to Calum, who blew his nose. He coughed once again, this time bringing up some nasty looking mucus which Luke wished he had never seen.

"You gonna be alright to wait for the doctor?" Luke asked. He had asked one of the crew members to get the doctor when he had brought Calum off of stage.
"Yeah. You go back on stage." Calum answered, his voice croaky from coughing. Luke nodded, giving Calum a hug before heading back on stage just in time to sing Calum's solo. Calum waited for 5 minutes until the doctor came. The doctor checked him over, telling him it'd be best if he went to the hospital first thing the next morning, but giving him clearance to go back onstage for the time being. Calum thanked the doctor, heading back out to the stage.
The crowd screamed for Calum when he came back on after Good Girls. Luke looked over at him, silently asking him why he was here. Calum gave him a thumbs up, signalling that he was cleared to play. Luke nodded, understanding. The four went back to playing, Calum having only 2 more coughing fits for the rest of the concert, both stopped by drinking some water. Once the show was over, the four went to their dressing room, showered and changed before getting into the tour bus to head to bed.
In the morning, the four blads got up later than usual as they had nothing to do, not even a concert in the evening. Calum was the last up, woken by Ashton shouting that breakfast was ready and the loud footsteps of his band's guitarists running past the bunks. He groaned and hopped out of bed, not bothering to get dressed as he wanted food right now. He walked down to the kitchen area, grabbing a plate of food which had been placed on the bench for him.
"Hey Calum, did the doctor say anything about heading to the hospital last night? I forgot to ask after the concert." Luke asked him.

"Oh, yeah. He said to head to the hospital this morning so that they can figure out what is wrong with me." Calum remembered.
"Alright. How about we all finish our brekky and we'll head down to the closest one." Ashton declared, earning a nod from all of his bandmates. The four lads fininshed their breakfast and got dressed before taking a car to the hospital. Calum and Ashton went to get him a room while Michael and Luke tried to park the car. The four met up again in Calum's new hospital room, waiting for the doctor to appear.
"Good Morning, I am Doctor Hayes and I will be looking after Mr Hood today." A female doctor announced and she entered the room. "Now, first things first, who is Mr Hood and what would he prefer to be called?"
"I am." Calum answered, raising his hand slightly. "And I'd prefer to be called Calum."
"Of course. Now, what seems to be the problem today Calum?" Doctor Hayes asked.
"Well, we're on tour at the moment and at last nights concert I had a coughing fit so I was brought backstage and our doctor told me to come here in the morning." Calum told her.
"Right, Do you have any other symptoms other than having coughing fits?" Doctor Hayes asked.
"Well, I've been breathing faster than normal and sometimes it's hard for me to breath." Calum explained, the doctor nodding as she took notes on her clipboard. "And I keep coughing up this brownish-green mucus stuff. My head, my stomach and my chest hurt last night but now it is just my chest."
"Alright, I have a feeling you may have a Chest Infection but it would be good if we could run a test or two to make sure I am correct." Doctor Hayes explained.
"Of course, do what you must to make me feel better." Calum consented. The doctor sent Calum in for a chest x-ray and sure enough, all the signs pointed towards a chest infection.
"Alright, I'll get you some antibiotics and it is recommended that you rest up for a day or two. Take the antibiotics daily and drink plently of fluid. I have been told that you smoke, so it would be good if you could lay off the smokes for a few days, at least until you get better. Since you are on tour, pop into the nearest hospital to you in 6 weeks time to make sure that you are all better." Doctor Hayes explained.
"Is that all?" Calum asked.
"It is, you are free to go."

I don't update it as often as I should, but there is a fair amount of content there already. It also contains a page with all the fanart, fan translations, audio books and the like - you can reach it directly by clicking this link. I have a patreon account for those kind people that want to give me money. It also contains info for those who want to donate via paypal. The story was originally posted on fictionpress, back in 2011. When I reached chapter 91, I started uploading the story to RoyalRoad, one chapter per day. The story will continue to be updated on fictionpress as well as here, and can be reached by clicking on this link if somebody is interested, though at this point there is nothing there that isn't also on RoyalRoad. ********************************** The cover you see on the side has been made by a fellow RoyalRoad user Sydorow. Thank you for your time and art skills.

Meanwhile, ancient and powerful forces clash in the shadows, racing across the globe to secure powerful artifacts capable of upending the foundations of the world. New chapters released every MWF. Sorry for the random tiny chapters. I structured and uploaded this as a series of scenes, some of which just didn't need to be very long. I could probably attach the "sub-scenes" to previous chapters, but that'd only be covering it up, so I'm not sure its worth it. Anyway if you find them annoying, let me know, and I'll put some more thought into it. I did, at least, make a point of always posting at least a thousand words on any given day (after I noticed the problem), which hopefully mitigates the problem.
