《Fated (A Chris Evans Series)》The Honey Pot

Denise said nothing as Chris dragged her outside with him. She knew he was upset that she made such a decision without first talking to him about it. Quitting Tumblr may have seemed like a minor issue to others, but to Chris- it wasn't. Tumblr wasn't just a social media platform to Denise, it was her sanctuary. She had decided to pursue screen writing because of Tumblr, they had met because of Tumblr, and she had made friends all across the globe because of Tumblr. Her quitting wasn't a minor issue, it was a major one.

Chris released Denise's hand when they arrived under the oak tree, the same one that they'd danced under before the ceremony. It worked in Denise's favor that Chris had taken her there because the surprise she had for him was waiting in that tree. That was if her brother had done as she'd asked him to.

"When were you planning to tell me about it?"

"Believe it or not, sometime during our reception."

"And what was the reason you were going to give me?"

"I can't remember, probably something selfless and romantic."

"I am not in the mood, Denise," Chris furrowed his brows at her. She giggled which made his lips quirk slightly. "Why'd you quit, and when did you quit? Also- why is this the first I'm hearing about you quitting? I mean- I know it's just Tumblr, but- C'mon, it was everything to you. You spent so much time on there, writing for all your readers and making friends with people from all around the world. For crying out loud, some of those people are at our wedding, Denise. Why did you quit? I don't get it, I- I really don't."

"I know, but you will," she reached for his face and brushed his cheek with her thumb. "How good are you at climbing trees?" She asked and his frown deepened, confusion contorted in his facials. "I hope you're as good as Donovan 'cause your reason is sitting up there." You pointed at the oak tree and he looked up, chuckling in disbelief. "You always said you wanted us to do more outdoor things together."

"Yeah, like going for a hike. Or camping." He glanced at her then back at the tree. "Not climbing a fucking tree," he chuckled and she bit back her smile. It was probably unnecessary, the tree didn't have anything to do with her surprise. Denise just liked the theatrics and her brother wanted to see if he could climb that tree, and he could, extremely well. "How is this us doing outdoor things, are you going to climb the tree too?"

"Do you want your pregnant wife to climb a tree?"

"Obviously not. But be honest, even if you weren't pregnant-"

"Obviously," she cut him off, chuckling. "I would rather die than ruin my Elie Saab and Louboutins." She quipped and he laughed as he slipped off his jacket. He held it out for her and she took it, draping it over her arm. "You can do it, Cap. I promise what's waiting up there is worth the small climb. Well..." She winced as she scanned the tree. "I'm hoping it's small, I didn't see where Donovan put it."

"So I'm meant to search every inch of this tree until I find something I've never seen before, and even you don't know where your brother put it?" He quizzed, trying not to smile at her expression. It became apparent to Denise, in that moment, that she should've just given him the gift instead of making him climb a tree for it. Unfortunately it was too late now, he had to climb.

"Sounds about right," she nodded, giggling. "Up you go, Cap. And be careful, I don't want the best day of our lives to become the worst day of our lives." Chris rolled his eyes, slightly offended his wife didn't think too highly of his tree climbing skills. Every boy had climbed a tree before, it may have been a while but it still wasn't his first time. "I don't think he put it up too high, he said he didn't want to make things too difficult for you." Denise told him as he started his ascend. "It's probably near the centre trunk bit. I don't know what it's called, I'm not a tree expert."

"People who see me climbing this tree are probably going to think I'm drunk off my ass. I'm Captain America, guys," he purposely slurred, making Denise laugh. "Do you remember Sebastian Stan delivering your surprise to your door? You couldn't offer me the same courtesy?" He called down, glancing over his shoulder at her.

"Guess not," she looked up and shook her head with a grin.

"If anything happens to me," he began, "tell our child that I died doing something heroic." Denise watched as he hooked his leg over one of the branches. She tensed then relaxed when he successfully used a smaller branch to pull himself onto the trunk. He winked at her before he disappeared behind the foliage.

"You're climbing a tree, not saving the world. Don't be so dramatic."

"I'm just saying, Denise. If I fell and broke my neck, please tell our baby I-"

"You're pregnant?!" Chris and Denise both flinched at the voice, he poked his head out of the foliage as she turned around. They sighed with relief when they realized it was just Salma, who stood a small distance away with her mouth agape. This was the first time they were meeting her in person, yet they felt like they already knew her due to the advances in modern technology. "I am- I saw the two of you walk out and- Oh my God," Salma covered her mouth with both hands as she walked over to Denise. "This is-" She looked up and received a wave from Chris before he returned to his search. "What is he- Never mind him. Congratulations, Denise!" She hugged her. "I am so happy for you."

"Thank you." Denise smiled as she hugged her back. "We're both very excited. But um-" she began as she pulled away. "We'd appreciate it if you keep it a secret for now. Not everyone knows yet and we want to keep it that way, at least until after our honeymoon."

"Of course, that is completely understandable. I'm just so happy for the both of you, the ceremony was beautiful. And RDJ? Oh my God. I knew he was going to be here, but I didn't think he was going to officiate! He was fantastic, I mean- he is RDJ. And I finally got to see Ed Sheeran up close and personal, so thank you for that. You know you just missed him playing 'Thinking Out Loud'. Oh, and you and Chris look amazing, I definitely drooled a little at the sight of your husband." She admitted teasingly with a whisper. "And you, you look divine in Elie Saab and Louboutin. You are just living the dream, aren't you?" Denise laughed as Salma continued to talk. "I'm rambling, aren't I? I'm sorry, I'm just- Oh, do you know if it's a boy or a girl yet?" She asked then immediately winced. "I'm still talking, and I just asked for way too much information."

"No, you're fine." Denise assured her with a smile. "And I'd tell you but we don't really know yet, I've just brushed twelve weeks." She told Salma and saw a little 'o' shape form. "And I get your rambling, I'm really excited to meet you in person too. I'd be rambling as well if I weren't so focused on Chris. He's trying to find something I got my brother to hide in the tree."

"You do like your theatrics," Salma chuckled and Denise nodded, giggling as she turned back to the tree. "The two of you are going to have a very interesting life with lots of big romantic gestures, I just know it. And while I understand why you've quit Tumblr, I wish you hadn't. I don't know what I'm going to do without your stories."

"And I don't know what I'm going to do without your reviews," Denise responded and Salma smiled.

While Denise and Salma talked, Chris found the 'Winnie the Pooh' 'Hunny' pot replica Denise got her brother to hide in the tree. He chuckled as he reached for the scroll sticking out; it was tied together with a yellow and red ribbon. There were a few other items inside the pot, but he was too distracted by the fact that he'd climbed a tree for a piece of paper to notice.

"Is this it?" He poked his arm out of the foliage and waved the scroll. Denise noised confirmed and she heard him laugh. "So I climbed a tree for a piece of paper? Is there something else I should be looking for, or did you just give me a piece of paper?"

"That's it," Denise answered as she and Salma tried not to laugh. "And I'm sorry, did you not see that awesome 'Hunny' pot? It was not easy to find, I thought a 'Winnie the Pooh' fan like yourself would appreciate it." He pretended to grumble and she bit back her smile, knowing very well he didn't see what else was inside the pot. "It's also not piece of paper, it's a scroll and there's a difference. Just come down before you read it, you're going to be all blurry eyed after and I don't want you climbing down while crying 'cause that's dangerous."

"He's not drunk, is he?"

"I am most definitely not drunk," Chris called as he started climbing down with the ceramic pot under his arm; he'd placed the scroll back in the pot so he wouldn't crush it in his grip. "But I will be soon, I need a beer. You can come grab a drink with me considering my wife can't drink." He pushed himself off the trunk and landed on his feet, sweeping his hands on his pants.

"You're the reason I can't drink, so stop complaining." Chris rolled his eyes as he pulled the scroll back out of the pot. He lowered the pot onto the grass, settling it in-between his feet. "And Salma doesn't drink, so you're going to have to get someone else to." Denise told him and he turned to the two girls with wide eyes. "Not everyone is an alcoholic like you, Christopher."

"You're going to learn how to drink," he told Salma and she laughed. He turned his attention back onto the scroll as he slowly unraveled it, and Salma excused herself so the couple could get back to Denise's big romantic gesture. Like she'd predicted, his eyes welled when he read what she'd written. She didn't even have to write much, her paragraph was that powerful.

Tumblr was my escape from reality, it was the morphine that numbed the dull ache in my chest. With the needle in my arm, I lived in bliss. Without it, the ache was enough to bring me to my knees. The needle offered me a painless sanctuary, a place where I could forget about the dull ache. Because even if it was brief, I was relieved. The day I met you was the day I realized there was cure. The needle became irrelevant and my reality turned into the painless sanctuary that I wanted to live in.

"Rereading it now," Denise looped her arm with Chris' and he looked up at her. "I feel like I went a little overboard with all my metaphors. It's almost as if I smoked a shitload of weed before I wrote that," she joked and he chuckled. "You get it though, right?"

"Of course I do, and I disagree. A pothead would not have been able to write something that beautiful," he kissed the top of her head and she smiled. "Can I just say-" He chuckled. "I find it very funny that your metaphors and jokes are in relation to morphine and weed when the worst drug you've come in contact with is aspirin."

She scoffed. "You don't know me," she quipped then giggled, "I was in college."

"No," he laughed, "I know you. I don't even think you know what weed smells like."

"It smells earthy," she answered and he laughed harder, knowing she got her answer from an episode of 'The Big Bang Theory'. "Shut up!" She giggled, playfully slapping his arm. "Did you see what else is in the pot?" She asked and Chris raised a brow. "Did you really think I'd make you climb up a tree for nothing?" He chuckled, bending over to pick up the pot. "If Pooh can get his honey when he makes an effort to climb up a tree, surely Chris Evans can get something as special to him as honey is to Pooh Bear."

He reached his hand into the pot and pulled out a mini plush football that had the Patriots logo and the name 'Jack' embroidered on it. He turned to Denise with narrowed eyes and she gestured for him to look in the pot again. He reached in and this time, pulled out a Christopher Robin fridge magnet. "I don't get it," he told her and she beckoned her head at the pot again. "Oh my God, Denise." He chuckled and reached his hand into the pot again. "You're right, I don't know you. Maybe you're as high as kite right now," he joked and she laughed. This time, his hand pulled out a 'Winnie the Pooh' stationary card hidden in a matching blue envelope. "What is this for?"

"Open it and see."

Chris rolled his eyes and smiled as he did as Denise instructed. He flipped open the envelope and pulled out a card; his eyes teared up immediately. "Are you serious?" He asked, holding up the card that had Pooh and Piglet saying 'It's A Boy, How Wonderful' in a huge speech bubble. "How do you even know?" He asked when Denise nodded. "You're twelve weeks, I don't- I thought we only get to find out the gender when you're eighteen to twenty weeks."

"Yeah, it's more accurate around eighteen to twenty weeks. But um-" She felt her own vision blur when she saw how happy Chris looked re-reading the words on the card. He couldn't believe he was having a boy. "That last appointment I went to, when you had a meeting and couldn't come? They told me there's an incredibly high chance we're having a boy."

"Oh my God," he wrapped both arms around her, drawing her in for a tight hug. "We're having a boy!" He cheered as he started crying. "Jack Jack is on his way." Denise smiled as she hugged him back, sniveling. "Wait, I don't understand the magnet." He pulled away with his eyes narrowed slightly as he examined the magnet in his hand. "What does this have to do with anything?"

"I want his middle name to be Christopher," she answered and a smile spread across Chris' face. "I want him to be named after the two guys who saved my life." She explained and their eyes filled with a fresh set of tears. "I know he wasn't planned and I know I may not be ready for him, but- I am certain he is going to save my life too." Chris drew her in for another hug, chuckling softly as he tried to stop crying. "Was the climb worth it?" She asked, half laughing, half crying as she spoke.

"Absolutely," he nodded.
