《Fated (A Chris Evans Series)》The First Rule of Fight Club

Scott placed the microphone back on its stand, allowing Ed to take the stage while the guests cleared a path for Chris and Denise to walk towards the dance floor. Everyone was smiling at the couple, words and phrases like "congratulations", "we're so happy for the both of you", "Denise, you look breathtaking", "Chris, looking dashing", and "the ceremony was beautiful" greeted them with jovial tones. Chris and Denise smiled, nodding with gratitude at their sweet comments and their attendance. The proper responses could occur later. For now, they just wanted to get their first dance in as a married couple.

The one detour they made happened when they spotted Sebastian and Luca standing in the crowd. After all they did, Chris and Denise had to hug and thank them. Without Sebastian and Luca, their wedding wouldn't have gone as smoothly as it did. Without Sebastian- they'd found out from Ed- they wouldn't have had that special moment under the oak tree. "Thank you for everything," Chris and Denise told them. "We are definitely at your service when your wedding comes along." Sebastian and Luca smiled and promised, "we will most definitely utilize that prerogative."

Ed started strumming a slow, easy listening melody on his guitar; a melody that sounded nothing like 'Perfect' confusing those who'd expected it to be. After that moment under the oak tree, Chris and Denise decided their first dance song was not to be 'Perfect' anymore. They still loved the song and it was still going to be their song, but that was it- it was theirs. A perfect moment to match the song had been had, they didn't want to taint that memory with a different one- one that had to be shared with three hundred and fifty-six people. They wanted to be selfish. They wanted to keep that song and how it was their song to themselves. They'd told Ed earlier which was why he decided to play 'Kiss Me' instead, another song the bride loved that was just as romantic.

"Settle down with me,

Cover me up,

Cuddle me in

Lie down with me,

And hold me in your arms"

"Our first dance as husband and wife," Chris' left hand took Denise's right and his right snaked around to rest on her lower back whereas her left rested on his shoulder. After watching first dance videos on YouTube for inspiration, they decided they were fine with the traditional Nightclub Two Step. "I have to admit, this is pretty cool."

"And your heart's against my chest, your lips pressed to my neck

I'm falling for your eyes, but they don't know me yet

And with a feeling I'll forget, I'm in love now

Kiss me like you wanna be loved

You wanna be loved

You wanna be loved

This feels like falling in love

Falling in love

We're falling in love"

"Pretty cool?" Denise scoffed then giggled when he smiled. "That is an understatement because this is awesome. We're officially married, Chris. It's just you and me now, until the end of the line. Legally bounded for the rest of our lives." She said and immediately, his lips pursed. "What?" She giggled, gently slapping his arm.

"How long before I'm no longer allowed an annulment?" He jokingly asked.

"You're a jerk," she laughed, making him laugh as he leaned in and kissed her lips.

"And now I'm your jerk," he whispered and pressed his cheek against hers.

"Yes you are," she smiled then sighed with a great deal of satisfaction.

"Settle down with me

And I'll be your safety

You'll be my lady

I was made to keep your body warm

But I'm cold as the wind blows so hold me in your arms

Oh no

My heart's against your chest, your lips pressed to my neck

I'm falling for your eyes, but they don't know me yet

And with this feeling I'll forget, I'm in love now"

After giving Chris and Denise their floor time, the rest of their coupled guests joined in. Sebastian and Luca made the first move. He took her hand and led her onto the floor, following Chris and Denise's Nightclub Two Step position. Chris and Denise smiled when they looked over at their best friends who were clearly as in-love as they were. It wasn't long until other couples followed in Sebastian and Luca's footsteps, joining the newly weds in a romantic slow dance until Ed's 'Kiss Me' faded out and transitioned to 'Shape of You' a more up-beat song.

"Can we quickly go and greet the rest of the girls from Tumblr?" Denise asked Chris and he nodded, taking her hand as they both made their way off the dance floor. "I want to talk to them before we get caught by our friends and families, and before dinner starts because I am not going to miss out on the food. I did in my story, I will not be in real life."

"You are such a dork," he kissed her hair, chuckling.

"And now I'm your dork," she paraphrased his earlier statement.

It didn't take them long to find the second group of Denise's Tumblr friends. They were sat at their assigned table, merrily drinking and chatting away. Denise was glad to see them all getting along, and she was glad to see them enjoying their Aladdin themed table. She and Luca had spent an ample amount of time dressing each table around a Disney movie, with the help of the four moms: Lisa, Tina, Georgetta, and Elizabeth. The hints were subtle enough to allow the wedding to remain classy and elegant, but any Disney fan could've worked it out. The centerpieces were the giveaway, they were real works of Disney magic. The ladies admitted it was a lot of extra work, but seeing the faces of all the guests when they walked into the reception hall made all that extra work worth it.

"Evening ladies," Chris and Denise walked over and stood behind Ella. Denise placed both hands on Ella's shoulders and she jolted in her seat. Everyone else who could see Chris and Denise gasped, letting wide smiles break out on their faces.

Chris found himself releasing a sigh of relief when he saw the girls were equally as excited to meet Denise as they were him. It'd been his biggest concern when Denise first brought the idea to him, them being more interested in him and their celebrity guests than his beautiful bride. He should've stopped worrying after meeting the first group in the courtyard. From what he saw there and what he was seeing in front of him- Denise had met an excellent group of people who admired her as much as he did.

Denise's eyes darted to Ella's name card and smiled when she realized who the girl sitting in front of her was. Ella, or El as she preferred was lovely, and additionally she loved Ed Sheeran as much as Denise did; a bonus in their friendship. "You must be the small potato named El," Denise smiled at El when she looked up, lips parted in awe. "It's very nice to finally meet you." Denise looked up at the rest of the girls. "All of you, actually. I never, ever thought I'd get to meet any of you in person, this is very much so bucket list material."

"As was 'Marry Chris Evans', right?" Sara teased then chuckled when Chris and Denise smiled. Denise guessed she was the Sara who described herself as sociable because the rest were still trying to process their presences. "I think I speak for all of us when I say thank you for inviting us to your wedding. You didn't have to do that, but you did and we are all so grateful for this opportunity."

"Extremely grateful," Tabi agreed with a nod and Denise smiled. "I can't even call it a once in a lifetime opportunity 'cause it is beyond that." Chris and Denise laughed. "You are so much like your second person protagonist, it's no wonder Chris fell for you." Denise's smile widened when Tabi finished her sentence.

"No wonder at all," Chris wrapped an arm around Denise and pressed a kiss to her cheek. A wave of "awww" cascaded around the table, making the couple smile. "Okay, let's get properly aquatinted. Denise and I learnt all your names and URLs, but we have no idea where they belong."

So the girls quickly introduced themselves. Chris and Denise optimized maximum effort to memorize their faces. Denise counted her blessings she couldn't drink, and Chris was yet to have a drop of alcohol; the process didn't take long. The couple stayed at the table and chatted, uncovering details about the girls and disclosing details about themselves. Denise already knew quite a bit about them, so it was more about their interaction with Chris. It wasn't surprising when he found out all of them loved reading; they were fans of his wife's work after all. He praised El's love of the guitar as both he and Denise played the instrument too. He was impressed with Sara's knowledge of comic books, Eliza's ability to compose poetry, and Serena's love for English Literature even though she was French and had a rough time with it. He was then amazed by Jenna's cancer survival story, giving her a hug to compliment her strength. After all that, and a quick chat about Denise's writing- they both took photos with the girls before moving onto to look for the next group.

They found the next group just two tables down, another magnificent seven consisting of: Khalidah, Evelyn, Joanna, Mandy, Maira, Nicki, and Ellie. They were sat at a Peter Pan themed table which seemed appropriate considering how energetic they all were. Some may have started the day off shy, but after a while- all their nerves faded and the party began. In fact, as they were arriving- Mandy and Evelyn had just returned from the dance floor. It truly was a beautiful thing to see all of them getting along, Denise hoped this meant they would leave the wedding with some new friends.

"Here comes the bride, all dressed in white." Joanna sang-song when she spotted Denise. Chris and Denise smiled at her, then at everyone else when they turned. Quick introductions were made first, so Chris and Denise knew who they were talking to. "You both look outstanding. And I love the Disney themed tables, it's amazing."

"The whole wedding is amazing," Khalidah nodded in agreement.

"Thank you," Chris said then looked over at Denise with a smile as he continued, "yeah, the tables- We thought it made sense considering how much we both love Disney. We're really glad to have you all here with us." His hand rested on Denise's lower back. "We thought we'd come say hi and take some photos before we get tied up with everything else."

"That is so nice," Maira praised. "Honestly, the two of you are a match made in heaven." Chris and Denise shared another love sick smile when she said that. "All the years I'd spent reading Denise's work, I always wondered what you would do if you'd read them. And now I know, you find her and you marry her."

"It was the only viable option," Chris responded and Denise smiled, kissing his cheek. "It's truly lovely to meet all of you," he acknowledged each and every one of them, smiling. "I'm amazed how many hearts Denise has touched with her work. It's kind of crazy to think that one girl," he turned back to Denise and she chuckled, "brought us all together with her writing. How'd you do it, hm?"

"Magic," Denise whispered mysteriously, wiggling her fingers. Everyone laughed and she giggled, pulling her attention away from Chris. "Thank you all for coming out. I mean- I can't believe I'm standing in front of all of you beautiful people. By the way, I love you the blue in your hair, Nicki," Denise complimented her and she grinned. "I hope everyone here is having a wonderful time."

"Of course we are," Ellie nodded. "Being here is like being in one of your stories, it's a dream come true. And considering you've stopped writing on Tum-" Denise shook her head at Ellie, leading her to quickly cut herself off with pressed lips. But it was too late, Chris had heard. He turned to Denise with narrowed eyes and earned a sheepish smile from her. "Um..." Ellie cleared her throat, looking to the others at the table for help. They all just fiddled with items they could find in their vicinity, knowing they couldn't help her or Denise when Chris had heard.

"Let's go for a walk," Chris instructed in a terse tone, taking Denise's hand.

Ellie mouthed "I'm sorry" at Denise, then winced when Joanna smacked her arm.

"We'll be back to take photos, don't worry." Chris assured before pulling Denise away with him.

Denise sighed, wishing she'd told Chris right after she'd decided to quit. It would've save them the drama that was going to accompany their walk. Her decision was made a while back, she would quit Tumblr after they got married. But after she found out she was pregnant, she had no choice but to push her retirement forward. It didn't come as a shock to her readers when she told them she was quitting, they had anticipated it because she was no longer a teenager with zero responsibilities. The girl was getting married, pursing a career, and- though they had no knowledge of her pregnancy, they figured it wouldn't be long until she was on her way to becoming a mom. Tumblr was a hobby, eventually everyone gave it up.

When Denise disclosed the news, she refrained from making a public post. She wanted to avoid the unwanted drama, all the comments and messages begging her to stay. She chose instead to send a private message around to all her regular readers, out of respect to the friendships she'd built with them over the years. With her message was a rule; one that paraphrased the first rule of Fight Club: "do not talk about my retirement." It was not in her intention to keep it from Chris, it'd just slipped her mind in the midst of everything else. She was going to tell him eventually, perhaps after their wedding. But thanks to Ellie's slip, that eventually was moved forward.
