《Fated (A Chris Evans Series)》Mr. and Mrs. Evans

Chris and Denise stood facing each other under the floral arch; Dodger sitting in-between their legs, looking up at them. Hands in hands, with their bridesmaids and groomsmen standing on their respective sides, and their guests watching with tear filled eyes and overjoyed grins- they all waited eagerly for their officiant to start. Their officiant, Mr. Robert Downey Jr. because their wedding wasn't already perfect enough.

Neither Chris nor Denise had expected Robert to be the officiant. In fact, there hadn't even been a discussion had. Robert had been invited as a guest, but decided he would show up with a certificate proving he was an ordained minister capable of a officiating a legal marriage. Both Chris and Denise had been busy preparing for their ceremony, so Robert spoke with Tina instead knowing she was too big a fan to say 'no'. He said, and Tina quoted back to Denise in the bridal suite, "the second I found out they were engaged, I got ordained and starting working on the script for the ceremony. You have to let me do this, there is no one who wants them married more than me." After hearing that, Denise couldn't decline his offer. Even without that card pulled, she would've never said no to The Godfather of Marvel. He was Robert Downey Jr. and nobody in their right mind would've said no to him.

"You kids ready?" Robert asked.

"Mm hm," Chris and Denise nodded.

Neither Chris nor Denise could stop smiling as they gently squeezed each others' hands. They felt as though they'd waited their entire lives for this moment. Cliché or not, that was exactly what it felt like. It felt like they'd returned home after years and years of wandering in the wilderness. She was safe and secure, loved and wanted; she was home. With Chris, she'd found a home.

"When I first heard the story of how Chris and Denise met," Robert began, smiling at the couple. "My initial instinct was to laugh at the fact that Chris Evans spent his free time reading fan fiction about himself." Denise laughed along with the crowd, whereas Chris involuntarily smiled. "And I did, we all spent quite a lot time making fun of him on set. Every time he pulled out his phone, a comment would be made." Denise tried not to laugh as she pouted mockingly at Chris, who was chuckling with a shake of his head; the complaints he made were still seared into her memory. "But after reading Denise's work, I understood. I got why he wanted to immerse himself in her material, why he wanted to find the girl behind the stories, and why he fell in-love with her."

Denise turned away from Chris to look at Robert. She smiled and earned a smile in return. This was the first she'd heard about Robert reading her series. She didn't know if she should've been flattered or embarrassed considering the things she wrote. It was simply evidence of her full-blown fawning over Chris, his good friend and co-star. She had nothing to be embarrassed about, of course, and she was about to find out why.

"Her writing didn't only hold an incredible amount of talent, there was something pure and magical about the way she wrote. She created worlds with words, provided a safe haven for those who needed an escape, and depicted a love so strong that it touched everyone who read it. Myself included," he told Denise and she felt her eyes well with tears. Chris noticed and quickly squeezed her hands gently, smiling so she'd smile. "Chris fell for Denise before he even knew her name, he fell for the soul embodied in her words and the heart she wrote with. And that is the point of this story, that these two have always been destined to be together. They may have been born into this world at different times and in a different place, but every passing day- they were slowly making their way towards each other. These two amazing souls brought us all here today where we will stand witness as they bind themselves together forever in holy matrimony."

Robert's words melted the hearts of all; every single word that left his lips were true. Those who knew the couple, those who'd read her work- they knew the truth. There was a reason Denise collected such a loyal group of readers that were now here at her wedding. Perhaps it was destiny, as Robert said. Those who read Denise's series agreed, they had all seen a possible future for her and Chris. She may have wrote in second person, leaving her readers in the shoes of the protagonist. But repeating what Robert said, Denise's soul was embodied in her words and she wrote with her heart. As relatable as her character was, there had always been a face behind the nameless second person protagonist.

"Thank you," Denise mouthed at Robert and chuckled when he winked. "Oh God." She took a deep breath, carefully wiping a tear off her cheek before returning her hand to Chris. "That was- wow," she murmured to herself and Chris squeezed her hands. "I'm okay," she nodded, returning a squeeze of the hands.

"Now I could keep going, do what their original officiant was going to do. I could explain what marriage is and have some cheesy love poem read, but I am not going to do that because we don't need to hear all that. We all know what marriage is, we can all read some cheesy love poem in our own time." The crowd laughed. "I could tell you how much these two love each other." Robert looked down at the white cards in his palm. "The original officiant wrote down a whole bunch of reasons that I'm guessing he got after interviewing each of you personally." The couple nodded in response. "But I'm not going to do that either." He tossed the cards over his shoulder. "Because nothing and no one is going to convey the love you hold for each other better than you. Why do you love each other? Why are we all here today? Your vows are what we need to hear, the look in your eyes as you recite those vows- that's what we need to see. Plus," he chuckled, "I don't think Chris can wait any longer."

"No, I can't." Chris quickly agreed, laughing with the crowd. "I'll go first?" He asked and Denise smiled and nodded. "Okay," he took a deep breath. It was crazy how in-love with this girl he was, he felt like his heart was about to explode just looking at her smile at him. "I know I'm an actor, and learning lines are an important part of my job but um- I gotta admit," he chuckled nervously. "Remembering vows are a lot harder than remembering lines. I can't-" He shook his head with a sheepish grin. "I am drawing a serious blank right now." He admitted and she laughed. "You're not making it easier on me by looking that goddamn beautiful."

"What a kiss ass," Robert chuckled.

"Shut up," Chris laughed and Denise snickered.

"He took the words right out of my mouth," she teased.

"Can I speak now?" He playfully bit and she nodded, giggling. "Okay," he squeezed her hands and she squeezed back. "When I started working on what it was I wanted to say to you today, I struggled. Not because I had a lack of things to say, rather I had too much. And because we don't have all the time in the world, and our guests are eager to eat and drink," he joked and everyone laughed. "I've decided to say the more important things today, and space out the rest over the course of our lifetime together."

"I'm good with that," she nodded, smiling.

"I know for us things didn't start out as smoothly as the characters in your stories," he began. "Over the course of our relationship, from the moment we met- we've made some big mistakes." He admitted with a chuckle and she pressed her lips together, nodding in agreement. "If I could go back in time, I would've kissed you in that Starbucks." He said and she smiled. "I would've proposed at the Dolby Theater." Tears welled in their eyes. "I would've made sure you knew you were the most important thing on my plate so you didn't feel the need to protect me from anything." She squeezed his hands, urging him not to start crying. "And I definitely would've gone to New York with you to save us from all that unnecessary angst."

"Yeah," she chuckled.

"But I can't go back in time," he continued. "I can't change the past. Because if I could, I would change everything. I would change the fact that we were born sixteen years apart, just so I could have you in my life a lot earlier." A fresh set of tears filled their eyes when he said that. "I never knew how much I needed you until I met you. And now that I have you, I don't ever want to let you go." She smiled, wanting badly to just kiss him already. "I mentioned all those mistakes as a reminder to never make them again. My only goal as your husband and the father of our future children is to be the best version of myself. I may not be perfect, but I am going to try to be as perfect as you've painted me to be. Because I love you." She let out a shaky laugh as she tried not to burst into tears. "And there is nothing I wouldn't do for you, or our future little ones." She nodded in acknowledgment and he smiled, "I love you, Denise."

Denise was relieved Chris remembered to keep things vague when speaking of being a father and having children. They realized while writing their vows that not everyone at their wedding knew about her pregnancy yet. They were excited to share the news but they wanted to wait until after their honeymoon, just so the more traditional elders wouldn't freak out about the child they had out of wedlock. They were also slightly worried about how the girls from Tumblr would've taken the news and whether or not they were capable of keeping it to themselves. Denise was sure they would lose their mind at the prospect of Chris becoming a father. All the years she'd spent writing fan fiction, she had knowledge of how excited the girls would be if they knew Chris was becoming a father. She knew better than to unleash the news at the wedding, they'd all either swoon or squeal in such high pitch that the glasses would break.

"Are you sure you're not the writer in this relationship?" Denise let out a breathless chuckle and Chris tittered. "Oh God, I don't even know where to begin. You've left me so flustered that I can't- This is why I didn't pursing acting," she joked, drawing laughter from everyone in the crowd; the actors and actresses laughed harder.

"I love you," Chris chuckled, shaking his head in disbelief at how adorable his bride was. She giggled then grinned. "It's okay, just take a deep breath. Wing it, if you must. You're a wizard with words anyway, I'm sure whatever you say will bring me to tears."

"I do know the gist of what I want to say to you, so I guess I'll reconstruct from there." She said and he nodded. "Oh God," she chuckled at his intent gaze and he smiled. "You know when I look at you, I still feel like I'm dreaming. I'm terrified I'm going to wake up one day and you're going to have never heard of my existence." He chuckled, squeezing her hands. "I never thought I'd end up here, it always felt like a hopeless daydream. I didn't even think meeting you was possible, let alone starting a life with you." Her eyes welled. "But you made it possible, like you make everything possible. You found me and ruined me with your kindness, generosity, and unconditional love." He smiled, licking his lips. "It's been two years and nine months and I still don't know what I've done to deserve a man like you, Chris. You are the best person I will ever love in this lifetime, or another. You are way out of my league and I am so incredibly lucky to have met you."

"Baby," Chris briefly pulled his hand from hers; it was his turn to wipe a tear from his eye.

"I don't want to upstage our wedding, or any other milestone we've yet to cross. But the best day of my life is still the day I found out you were in-love with me." Every single person in the crowd who'd been in, or was in a relationship agreed with their smiles. The wedding day was special, but nothing compared to the first 'I-love-you'. "My entire world stopped when I read that you were dating the magnificent Scarlett Johansson."

Scarlett chuckled in the crowd, she chuckled every time she thought about that rumor and the repercussions it caused. She also thought about how she'd told Chris to talk to Denise when it first came out, and how he didn't listen; she still lorded it over his head as his dumbest mistake.

"And it resumed spinning when I read those six little words," Denise continued. "Even when we were just friends, your presence in my life improved everything. Everything was always easier and better with you around, and it still is. You have helped me through so much and loved me through even more. You love me more than I do myself, believe in me even when the world is against me, and turn all my dreams into realities without me asking. You understand me down to my core, providing me with the sense of clarity and assurance I need to get through the day. You are perfect. You are perfect to me, and for me, there is never going to be anyone or anything else." She promised and he felt his vision blur again. "You are my one and only, Chris, and I am so ready to spend the rest of my life with you." He smiled and leaned forward to kiss her forehead. "I love you," she whispered.

"Can we have the rings?" Robert asked, bringing Miles and Ethan forward. They each held up the satin pillows they carried in their hands, letting Chris and Denise take their respective rings. "Okay, let's not forget the 'I do' this time." Those who'd read Denise's series laughed because everyone knew it was a reference to it. "Do you, Christopher Robert Evans, take Denise Hogan to be your lawfully wedded wife? To love and to hold, to rejoice in times of happiness and to support in times of trouble, to build a life and fulfill all dreams, as well as get through all triumphs and trials with respect, love, and loyalty?"

"I do," Chris nodded and slipped her silver wedding band on her ring finger, just above her engagement ring. His smile only widened when he looked up from the wedding band and met her teary gaze. He was getting misty eyed himself.

"And do you, Denise Hogan, take Christopher Robert Evans to be your lawfully wedded husband? To love and to hold, to rejoice in times of happiness and to support in times of trouble, to build a life and fulfill all dreams, as well as get through all triumphs and trials with respect, love, and loyalty?"

"I do," Denise nodded, sliding the matching silver wedding band on Chris' ring finger. She looked up at him and a nervous laugh escaped her throat. Was that it? Were they officially husband and wife? Chris grinned, drawing her in and preparing for the kiss everyone was waiting for. "Any day now, Iron Man." Denise joked, caressing Chris' face in her hand.

"I hereby pronounce you, husband and wife. You may-" Before Robert could finish his sentence, Chris' lips were on Denise's. Everyone jumped to their feet, cheering and clapping wildly. Rose petals, and gold and silver glitter were tossed into the air. "Kiss the bride!" Robert laughed, shouting over the cheers and clapping himself. "Mr. and Mrs. Evans, everyone!"
