《Fated (A Chris Evans Series)》Meet Me at the Oak Tree

"What does her dress look like?" Chris blurted the second the door closed behind Sebastian and Dodger, catching the dog by the collar before he could run off. Chris had been hiding behind the wall while Sebastian had been doing the talking. He'd wanted to hand Denise her gifts himself, but knowing how many females voices would've screeched at him he decided to send Sebastian instead. "Wait, no- don't tell me." He spoke before Sebastian could. He'd already waited so long, what was another half an hour?

"Yeah," Sebastian chuckled. "I wasn't going to tell you. But I will, however, tell you she looks beautiful." He said and Chris smiled, releasing his grip on Dodger's collar. "C'mon." He patted Chris' arm and walked ahead; Dodger happily followed behind him as he made his way back to the groom's suite. "Chris," he glanced back at the groom. "Let's go before someone walks out of that room and sees you. The ceremony is starting soon, you're going to be needed at the alter."

Chris nodded. He was about to walk in Sebastian's direction when he felt his phone buzz in his pocket. He'd kept it on him after last night, where he and Denise had agreed to keep their phones on them. They wanted to be able to communicate with each other at all times, just in case their nerves got ahold of them. If the 'Sex and The City' movie had taught them anything, it was that they should keep their phones on them. Chris pulled his phone out of his pocket and smiled when he saw Denise's text.

I need to see you, meet me by the oak tree behind the reception hall?

"Hey, um- Seb, give a minute." Chris told him, holding up a finger. "I'm going to catch some air, take a walk before the ceremony. C'mon, pal." He whistled for Dodger who quickly changed directions. "I'll be back in a minute," he assured Sebastian who stared at him with a deadpan expression. It was obvious he was leaving details out, like who he was planning to catch some air with. Sebastian wasn't an idiot; the bride and groom were far too predictable. Even inside the bridal suite, before Denise could even begin to think of an excuse to see Chris, Luca was already anticipating it.

"Yeah, well- tell Denise I said hi," Sebastian muttered under his breath as he walked off.

I'm actually right outside your suite, see if you can sneak out here alone.

Okay.

Chris grabbed Dodger's collar and they both moved behind a potted plant when he heard the door click open, a small gap could be seen. He heard Denise's voice, "I just need some air. I'm good by myself, um- I'll be back in a minute." Through the leaves he caught sight of the white chiffon material on her dress and held his breath in awe. He waited until Denise closed the door behind her that he stopped out from behind the plant. "Hey," she smiled at him. All her worries and nerves washed away at the sight of him.

Chris could not wipe the smile from his face, nor could he close his mouth. His lips parted the second he saw Denise, eyes taking her in from head to toe. He couldn't believe how beautiful and angelic she looked, his imagination had done her no justice. She looked like a hybrid: a mix of a Greek Goddess, a Disney Princess, and a Hollywood Superstar. The girl was a sunset; an experience every being wanted to have at least once in their lifetime, the kind of beautiful people chose to chase just to enjoy for a limited amount of time. She took his breath away, sky-rocketed his heart into the beyond, and weakened his knees. Every beautiful thing he'd ever laid eyes on didn't compare to her beauty, no girl he'd ever been with could live up to her exquisiteness. Nothing could describe what he was about to achieve by marrying her. It was ineffable, she was ineffable. He slowly approached her with carefully measured steps. He resembled the movements of a world-class thief on a heist to swipe the most precious jewel from its glorious stand.

"Chris," Denise laughed softly. "Stop," she giggled as he gently took her hand in his, pressing it to his heart. "Was it worth the wait?" He nodded vigorously as he continued to smile, undeniably at a loss for words. "Can you say something, please?"

"Like what?" He breathed. "I don't think I can, I mean-" He took a step back and gestured at her from head to toe. "Look at you, you are a sight to behold. Are you sure you want to be a screenwriter?" He rhetorically quizzed. "'Cause you should be strutting a runway, like-" She laughed, taking a step towards him to wrap her arms around his neck. "Seriously," he smiled, resting both hands on her waist. "You are a work of art, Denise."

"As are you," she caressed his cheek with one hand, brushing his beard with the pad of her thumb. He smiled and leaned forward to give her lips a quick peck. It turned into a deep kiss the second their lips touched and they both smiled so wide, their teeth clicked. "I know we only have half an hour left, but-" She began when she broke the kiss, resting her forehead against his. "I needed to see you, I couldn't wait any longer."

"That's fine by me 'cause I've been dying to see you since I woke up this morning," he admitted with a chuckle, making her smile. "If I'm being completely honest, I'd anticipated this. If you're anything like your character, you were going to need some calming down." He reached into his left breast pocket and pulled out a little bag of Yupi Gummi Bears.

"Oh my God, Chris!" She roared with laughter, shaking her head in disbelief.

"You wrote me a handbook, baby," he teased, pushing the packet into her hand.

"You're going to be the best husband," she giggled, smacking a loud kiss on his cheek.

"Do you want to take a walk with me?" He asked, rubbing gentle circles into her waistline.

"I am always going to want to take a walk with you," she answered with a nod and a smile.

They walked hand in hand, with Dodger walking alongside Denise. Sebastian, who decided to confirm his assumption by observing the whole thing, chuckled with a shake of his head. He called Luca to confer, as well as inform her of Denise's whereabouts. "They're taking a walk together," he told her, laughing.

"I was right." Luca repeated to the rest of the room, "they're taking a walk together."

"You know what," Sebastian smiled when he remembered how happy Chris and Denise looked when they saw each other. "Screw it. I'm going to go get Ed and their photographer. What's his name again, is it Dalton?" Luca hummed an 'mm hm'. "I'm going to send the two their way so they can have a moment for themselves before they have to share their love with all three hundred and fifty-six of us."

"Good idea," Luca smiled.

"I'll see you later, sweetheart."

The second he hung up, he went to look for Ed Sheeran and Dalton Maxwell. Upon finding them, he politely asked for their help to provide Chris and Denise with a moment so romantic and pure they would've been incapable of explaining it to anyone else. Sebastian instructed Dalton to capture only candid shots. He knew Chris and Denise found those photos more appealing when it came to portraying the love they carried for each other. Ed grabbed his acoustic guitar and walked off with Dalton. Ed knew exactly what song he needed to play to fulfill Sebastian's request of creating a moment so romantic and pure that the couple couldn't explain it to anyone else. Chris and Denise deserved something memorable on their wedding day, a moment they could keep just between themselves. Sebastian knew this was the best gift he could give, that the photos Dalton were going to take were going to be treasured for the rest of their lives.
