《Fated (A Chris Evans Series)》Something New, Something Blue

The day started earlier for the ladies than it did for the men. As the bride, the members of the bridal party, and the moms of both bride and groom- the ladies had a lot more to do and prepare for. They were all up and at it by 7:00AM, gathering everything they needed to haul over to the wedding location to set up in the bridal suite. Chris and Denise were getting married at a private property in Malibu, a beautiful and romantic garden setting that accommodated all their three hundred and fifty-six guests. It was an overwhelming number of people which Chris and Denise had tried and failed to minimize. Other than the fact that they both came from big families, they had a lot of friends they wanted to invite. He was Chris Evans, and Denise was an incredibly sweet person who wanted to invited the girls on Tumblr who'd supported her through and through. Other than Chris, they were part of the reason she'd decided to pursue screenwriting. The only way she could think of to repay them was an invitation to the wedding everyone was talking about.

An hour after the ladies arrived and settled in the bridal suite, the prep team Denise had hired arrived and started doing her hair, nails, and makeup. She sat humming to her music while a group of professional beauticians worked on her, and the rest made sure she had nothing to worry about. Luca, Tara, Teresa, and Catherine took the initiative to go outside, making sure the setup was going according to plan. The four moms were still in Los Angeles, getting the groom and his groomsmen sobered up and ready for the wedding. Carly, Shanna, and Stella stayed with Denise, getting her anything and everything she needed. By the time the beauticians were done with Denise, it was 1:27PM and they began to work on her bridesmaids and flower girl. The moms, the dads, the rest of their families, as well as Chris and his groomsmen had arrived at the location. The moms joined the bride and her bridal party in the bridal suite, the dads and the brothers hung out in the lounge where they had access to an open bar, and Chris and his groomsmen completed any and all final touches before the wedding started at 3:00PM.

Time was passing incredibly fast. Soon the three hundred and fifty-six guests would start flooding in and the wedding ceremony would begin. Denise was nervous, as was Chris. It didn't have anything to do with cold feet, it was more the limelight that bothered them. Heavy security detail had been hired and releases were to be signed before the guests entered the premise. Neither Chris nor Denise wanted their special day trending all over the internet, they wanted the event to be as private as possible. If a photo was to be put out, it had to be authorized by them. That was the deal, it was even written on the invitation- there was to be no photo leaks or reaction tweets. All forms of congratulations were to be done in person at the wedding, not over social media for the whole world to see. The news of their wedding would be shared with Chris' fans eventually, but not on their wedding day. Their wedding day had to be about them and only them, there couldn't be fans or paparazzi trying to scout out their location, or tweeting mean and bitter comments at, or about them.

"Wow." Every single person in the room gasped when Denise walked out from the dressing room. It was 2:25PM and she'd finally changed into her wedding dress. Each time she wore it, it felt more and more like the dress had been designed specifically for her. Denise's smile reached her eyes when she scanned the room. The looks on their faces answered the question she wanted to ask: "how do I look?"

"Sweetheart." Tina walked towards Denise and took her hands. "You look-" She was at a lost for words, shaking her head in utter disbelief. She'd always known her daughter was beautiful but she couldn't have imagined how beautiful she would've looked on her wedding day. She'd truly grown into a woman in the last two and a half years. "You look amazing, just- just perfect." She looked over her shoulder at the rest of the women in the room and they all nodded in agreement. "You're perfect," she squeezed Denise's hands then released them, hugging her tightly.

"Thanks, Mom." Denise hugged her back just as tightly.

"My son's heart is positively going to explode when he sees you," Lisa told Denise.

"I really hope not," Denise laughed as she and her mom pulled away from each other.

"I'm just- I'm speechless, honey. You look like a legitimate Disney Princess, and that's the dream, right? Chris' dream, anyway. He's such a geek that he is going to swoon when he finds out he's marrying a Disney Princess." Denise giggled, feeling her eyes well as she walked over to her soon-to-be mother-in-law. "Don't you start crying," she playfully warned Denise, chuckling as she hugged her. "I won't let you ruin your makeup."

"Then please stop saying things that will make me cry," Denise chuckled, gently using the edge of her index fingers to wipe her tears from her eyes. Lisa laughed, giving Denise's wrist a gentle squeeze as she pulled away. "Okay, I should probably put my heels on and practice walking a little bit before I have to walk down the aisle. Lu," she looked to her best friend who nodded before making her way over to her luggage where Denise had packed her heels.

"Hey, Nise? Um." Luca turned back to Denise with pursed lips and earned narrowed eyes from Denise. "Your heels aren't in here." She said and Denise felt her heart skip a beat as she walked over, picking up her gown as she did. "Are you sure you packed them? I mean- I didn't even see them at the apartment, you weren't wearing them when you tried on the dress for us."

"No, I packed them. I swear I packed them, I remembered putting them at the top of the bag." She started to pull everything out of the bag, as if by doing that her heels would suddenly appear. "What am I going to do?" She pressed a hand against her twisting stomach. "The only pair of shoes I have with me are my Keds and I am not wearing Keds down the aisle in an Elie Saab dress."

"You and I've got the same size feet, maybe-" Luca begin to suggest that perhaps Denise could wear her heels instead, but she was quickly shut down with a shake of the bride's head. "Well, what do you want to do?"

"What's the time? Can we-" Before Denise could finish her sentence, there was a knock at the door. Stella ran over and opened it, allowing Dodger to barrel into the room. Denise managed a smile when she saw his furry face and reached down to pat him, letting her smile widen when she saw him wearing the black bow tie collar she'd gotten him. "Boy, am I glad to see you." Denise may not have been able to see the one who could calm her in such a tense situation, but Dodger was good enough.

"Sorry to disturb, ladies." It was Sebastian at the door. He smiled at Luca who gestured for him to speed up his explanation of why he was visiting, eyes informing him of the tense situation. "I um- the groom wanted me to drop something off." He moved the arm he had hidden behind his back, revealing a plain brown paper bag. "Just a small gift to apologize to the bride for taking her heels out of her luggage."

"He was the one who took her shoes?" Carly scoffed. "God, he just doesn't-"

"It's okay," Denise cut her off, hoping it'd stop her from storming out to yell at her younger brother. She had a feeling Chris was going to make up for it with whatever was in the paper bag. She walked around Dodger and towards Sebastian. He was sharing a knowing smile with his fiancée, as well as Lisa and Tina. It was obvious the four of them knew the contents of the bag, that they'd known about Chris' plans for a while now. "Thanks, Seb." Denise took it from him and he nodded, whistling for Dodger. The dog padded towards Sebastian and they took their leave, closing the door behind them.

"What's in the bag, Aunt Denise?" Stella asked her.

"I'm not sure, sweetheart." Denise sat the bag down on the nearest table then reached inside. She pulled out a box that left her even more breathless than when she found out she didn't have her heels to wear for her wedding. "Christian Louboutin." She breathed, vision blurring at the sight of the brand's shoebox. "He got me a pair of red soles." She wanted to cry but knew she couldn't afford to ruin her makeup, she quickly fanned her face attempting to dry her wet eyes.

A pair of Christian Louboutin heels had been Denise's dream since she was fourteen when she first started wearing high heels. She'd been pretty verbal about her plan to get herself a pair on her twenty-first birthday so it came as a surprise to her when her mother stopped her a day before she went to the boutique. Tina had strongly discouraged her, practically forbidding her- stating it was a waste of money. Denise remembered complaining to Chris about it that night, who- to her amazement- didn't offer to get her a pair, but agreed with Tina's logic instead.

That hardly ever happened. Chris had always been generous with Denise, getting her anything she wanted but couldn't get herself. She remembered the small fight they got into. She'd argued that she said nothing when she saw him wasting money on things, even insulting his love for his Boston teams- a cheap move she was kicking herself for now. Like the gentleman Chris was, with a secret he wanted to keep until the day of- he said nothing which only angered her more. She could even remember yelling, "fine! I won't say another word about owning the shoes I'd been saving a year for. It's only on my bucket list, but I guess I'll just die not knowing what Louboutins feel like!" His response "is that a promise?" almost had her strangling him. His apology happened a couple hours later when she'd cooled down slightly, with the 'Mulan' DVD and a single rose taped to a big bag of Yupi Gummi Bears; three things Denise couldn't say 'no' to.

As Denise lifted the lid of the shoebox and picked up the note Chris had placed on top of the pair of Louboutin heels protected by the traditional red dust bags, she finally understood why those around her had discouraged her purchase.

A girl as special as you shouldn't have had to buy a pair of expensive shoes with her own money, nor does she need to own a pair that has been seen by the rest of the world. A girl like you needs a pair like no other, because you are like no other. I'm sorry I pissed you off that day but I needed you to drop it so I could surprise you with these. I'm already your something old, so here's your something new, and something blue. I'll see you at the alter, princess.

Chris

Denise lowered the note and carefully lifted one of the shoes from the box, removing it from the bag. She immediately starting weeping when she saw the heel. It was simple, beautiful, and elegant, much like she was. A closed toe suede pump in white, speckled with silver stars and little diamonds; the platform and the counter were trimmed with a delicate silver glitter rose design, matching the silver on her dress perfectly; the insole, right under Christian Louboutin's name was 'Designed by Chris Evans, inspired by my one and only.' Denise took the other heel out of its bag and slipped her feet into both, suddenly understanding the magic Cinderella felt when she first put on her glass slippers. The shoes were the something new but it didn't have a hint of blue, so what was the something blue Chris mentioned in his note?

"I believe there's something else inside," Tina beckoned her head at the brown bag.

"Of course there is, he's not known to be a one hit wonder." Denise managed a light laugh as she continued to weep, reaching into the brown bag to pull out a Swarovski box. From the size and weight of it, and what Chris had ended the note with- she'd accurately guessed what it was before she even lifted the lid. She briefly stopped breathing when she saw her something blue. It was a mesmeric crystal tiara with eye-catching blue sapphires. She pulled the tiara out of the box and asked, "how hard do you think it'll be for me to get him a meeting with Tom Brady?" Everyone laughed but she wasn't joking. At this point, getting him a meeting with his idol was the only way she was going to pay him back for everything he'd done for her.

"I think you marrying him, and giving him a child is payback enough." Lisa assured her, taking the tiara from her hands to set it on her head. "And just like that, a girl born to be a Disney Princess is rightfully crowned. Oh sweetheart," she hugged Denise, laughing when Denise started to cry. "I told him not to wait until the wedding day, all this crying is going to ruin your makeup."

"Thank you for him, Lisa," Denise whispered as she hugged Lisa back.

"No, sweetheart." Lisa shook her head as she pulled away, gently wiping Denise's tears away with her thumbs. "Thank you for finding him." She said then chuckled and hugged Denise again when more tears fell from her eyes.
