《Fated (A Chris Evans Series)》New York

"Why can't you just get your wedding dress in LA?" Chris asked as he walked Denise towards the departure hall, wheeling her hand luggage behind him as she reached into her purse for her air ticket. "I don't understand why you have to fly all the way to New York when there are designers who are willing to fly in just to dress you."

Chris found it absurd that Denise was flying to New York for the weekend to do her wedding dress shopping. Dozens of designers were fighting to dress her, all willing to fly to Los Angeles to make things convenient for her. She politely declined, claiming she'd rather do it the way she'd always seen in the Rom-Coms. But there were still plenty of dress shops in Los Angeles if she wanted the 'Rom-Com Montage' experience. Chris realized The Maid of Honor was no longer living in Los Angeles now that she was engaged to a New Yorker, but even Luca said "I should be the one flying over, Denise." It would've made more sense for Luca to fly over, she could stay longer than a weekend and help check off more on the to-do list. She still had the apartment and she had family she could visit, it wouldn't have just been a weekend trip. But Denise insisted, pulling her 'I'm-the-bride' card that no one dared argue with.

"I know, but I've told you 'I don't need special treatment'." Denise reminded Chris, and he sighed. She was oddly down to earth for a girl who'd been dreaming about Hollywood and its special treatment since she was a little girl. Every event she attended with Chris, she would decline the prep team offer from Chris' publicist. She'd rather dress herself, do her own makeup, and pay her hair dresser to do her hair than use the privilege she had as Chris' partner. "I'm perfectly fine getting the dress myself."

"Which brings me back to my first question, why can't you just get your dress in Los Angeles?"

"You know why I'm going to New York," she answered with a retort, trying not to smile at his smile.

He was the reason she was choosing to fly all the way to New York for the same brands she could've easily found in Los Angeles. She knew if she did her dress shopping in Los Angeles, he'd find some way to convince her to let him come along. Even if she'd disagreed he'd find his way to the shop, peek in the window, and see the dress. Whether or not they believed in the superstition, she didn't want him to see the dress before the wedding.

Denise had actually decided a while back she was going to do her dress shopping in New York, buying her ticket a few months before her trip. Neither Chris nor Luca found out about her trip until the day of said trip. Every time she was asked about her wedding dress, when she was getting it, and where she was getting it- she'd answer vaguely with suggestions so no one worked out she was actually going to New York to dress shop. She knew if Chris and Luca found out, they'd join forces to keep her in Los Angeles.

It came as no surprise that since they found out Denise was pregnant, they'd become more protective, and Chris a lot clingier than usual. At six weeks, they were already preventing her from things she didn't have to stop doing, or eating until later in the pregnancy; flying being one of those things. It seemed to be a popular belief that flying while pregnant was harmful towards the baby. The air pressure made it a risk at any point of a pregnancy to travel, so unless it was completely necessary for Denise to be on a plane, Chris didn't want her to be. She knew her trip to New York wasn't, so she secretly purchased her air ticket and only told him about it the day of, just as she was heading for the airport so all he could do was drop her off.

"You know I'm just going to FaceTime you while you're shopping."

"And you know I'm just not going to answer your calls," she quipped and he rolled his eyes with an involuntary smile. "You can wait until the wedding day, Chris," she giggled. "It's only a few more weeks, I promise I'll pick a jaw dropper of a dress so it'll be completely worth the wait."

"Honestly, the dress is a none issue for me. You could wear a potato sack and I'll still think it was completely worth the wait," he admitted with a chuckle and she smiled. "Just-" he huffed. "I know it's only a weekend, but it still time away from the two of you."

The moment he referred to their baby growing inside her belly, she placed her hand on her abdomen with a smile. She couldn't believe how quickly time had past, she was already six weeks pregnant. It was exciting and she was happy, but she was still trying to wrap her head around the idea of being a mom. She wasn't even twenty-two yet, it was only the 15th of August. She didn't even want to think about how pregnant she was going to be when January came around and it was time for her to start work. Was Emilia still going to want her when she found out she was pregnant? Would she become a liability to Sony Pictures? Would she be forced onto the back burner until after she gave birth? Would she lose her story to some other writer? What was going to happen to her opportunity of a lifetime? All these questions had been running through her mind on a loop since her blood tested positive.

"Do you think they'll still have me knowing I'm pregnant?"

"Who will still have you?" He asked with furrowed brows.

"Emilia, Sony Pictures," she answered.

"Of course." From his tone, she could tell he found her concern ridiculous. "She's a mom herself, Nise. She's going to be incredibly understanding and patient," he assured her. "And your story's written, you're converting it. Once it's in a script format, you can hand it over and the rest will be sorted for you. It's mostly going to be meetings after, a job you can easily do while you're pregnant. Trust me, you have nothing to worry about."

"Okay," she nodded, huffing a sigh of relief. "I was just worried they'll push it back, but what you said made sense. Sorry, I'm being paranoid again," she chuckled nervously. He wrapped an arm around her, rubbing her arm soothingly. "I want to be your wife and I want to be our baby's mom, but I also want to pursue my dreams. If it works out, great. If it doesn't, then at least I'll know and I can focus on being the other two."

"It's going to work out," he kissed her hair. "Everything is going to work out, I promise." He squeezed her tightly against him and she smiled. "Okay," he came to stop and she did too, the departure hall's entrance beckoning her. "You sure you've got everything you need?" He asked and she nodded. "Your ticket?" She nodded. "Your wallet?" She nodded. "Your toothbrush?" She nodded. "And your very handsome fiancé?" She was about to nod when she realized what he said and laughed, playfully slapping his arm. "I had to try," he shrugged, laughing.

"I'll see you on Monday." She tiptoed and pecked his lips. As she was about turn, his arm looped around her waist. He pulled her towards him and pressed her body flush against his. His head dipped and he kissed her deeply, smiling when he felt her smile. "Okay, sailor." She giggled, pressing her hand against his chest. "Thank goodness there aren't any paparazzi today, that would've been a sight to see." She joked and he laughed. She pushed herself out of his grip, "I'll see you on Monday."

"Have a safe flight." He passed her the handle of her luggage and she took it, waving as she walked towards the gates. She passed her ticket to the officer, then glanced back and smiled when she saw him mouth, "I love my two babies."

"We love you too," she mouthed back.
