《Fated (A Chris Evans Series)》Save the Date

Sunday, Chris and Denise spent at Gucci Headquarters signing their 'Save the Date' cards. Since July of 2017, when Chris let slip that he and Denise were engaged, companies and designers of every brand imaginable had been contacting Chris' management team with offers to sponsor their wedding. There were offers to do their 'Save the Date' cards and wedding invitations. Gucci, Tom Ford, Hugo Boss, and a few other names offered to design Chris' tuxedo, and similarly Denise got offers from Vera Wang, Christian Dior, Monique Huillier, and many other notable designers to design her wedding dress. Their wedding party was graced with the same courtesy if they accepted, and because Dodger was part of the wedding party- he was going to get a little puppy tux too. The best part of it was everything came free of charge, all they wanted was the privilege to say they were a part of a wedding that would surely make headlines. Chris Evans was finally off the market and he was marrying Denise Hogan, a girl who was surely going to make as huge a name for herself.
Basically if they didn't want to plan the wedding themselves, they didn't have to. There were people ready to cater to their every need; samples of any and every possible thing they needed could be sent to their front door if they'd asked for it. It was a great privilege they agreed they'd utilize to a certain degree because they'd rather plan the thing themselves as though they were a normal couple. Their wedding was a celebration of them. If they didn't have to let strangers into that, they'd rather not. Chris had spent almost two decades in the limelight and he'd never care for it. He knew when he got into a serious relationship, one he planned to see all the way to the alter that the attention would only intensify. It was because of that that he briefed Denise about the limelight the second he realized she was the one for him. She thought he was exaggerating when he said it was "literal hell on earth." It wasn't until she experienced it herself that she realized he wasn't. She quickly climbed aboard his train fueled by his dread and hatred towards the paparazzi and relentlessness of aggressive 'fans' (written in inverted commas as it was a loose term when describing that particular group of people.)
Their decision to take on Gucci's offer to design their 'Save the Date' cards was a result of their time constriction, and Gucci's beautiful and elegant design. They'd sent it a month after Chris publicly announced his engagement, and the fact that it was the one design that stuck with them after two years made it clear they had to accept their offer. They had also offered to design their wedding invitations, but that job had already been snatched up by Kevin Fiegi. He had made plans with a few of his Disney contacts and they were going to create a Disney themed wedding invitation for the couple who loved Disney as much as they loved each other.
Chris and Denise discussed having a full blown themed wedding, but decided against it after looking at themed weddings on Pinterest. Classy and elegant with subtle hints- like a classic white and gold wedding invitation that had Mickey and Minnie's silhouettes as a watermark, and the Disney castle in gold glitter on the header. That was more Denise's speed, and anything she liked- Chris loved; he just wanted to marry her. As much as they both loved all things Disney, they both were in agreement when it came to not wanting the best day of their lives to look like a children's birthday party.

Their wedding was set for the 28th of September as they met on the 28th of February. Denise joked, saying they only picked the twenty-eighth so Chris could "have an easier time remembering our anniversaries." His response "I could never forget the best days of my life" rendered her utterly speechless, leaving her to do the only thing she could whenever he bested her; kiss him.
"Thank you so much, Adriana," Denise squeezed the head designer's hand. She'd come up with the elegant black and gold 'Save the Date' cards: 'Save the Date: 28th of September - Christopher Evans and Denise Hogan are tying the knot.' "This turned out so much better than I'd imagined. Don't you think so, Chris? Aren't they beautiful?" She held up a card for him to see but he was too lost in his thoughts to respond.
Chris had a lot on his mind, but none of said thoughts possessed any form of negativity. He had little to complain or worry about, everything in his life- and the life of his beloved- were as good as can be. Their long engagement was over and the wedding planning had begun; they'd met with Emilia and discussed what it would mean for Denise's career if she agreed to write their story; and their best friends were finally engaged. Things were truly as good as can be for Chris and Denise, even for Sebastian and Luca.
The only thing that had Denise slightly on edge was what Emilia had said to her at the end of the meeting, just as she and Chris were taking their leave. "The script is the most important piece of the puzzle. Whether or not you choose to sell your story to Sony Pictures, I urge you to start writing. This could be something big, the last thing you want is for someone to swipe it from you." It was a warning filled with good intentions but it didn't stop Denise from feeling angst.
Denise had always been concerned about her work getting stolen, ever since she started posting on Tumblr. It was hard not to worry about someone stealing her work when it'd happened before, some nights the thought of it happening again kept her from sleeping. She'd deliberated shutting down her Tumblr on numerous occasions, as a line of defense to protect her intellectual material. It seemed smart in the long run, and though Chris agreed it was, he also knew what Tumblr meant to her. She'd spent too much time on Tumblr, accumulating the fan base she had to throw it away over a fear of hers. He decided the smarter move was to sit her down and remind her that while people could steal her ideas, they couldn't steal her talent. Emilia's warning worried Denise, but she knew Chris was right. She could afford to wait a little while, get through her wedding and honeymoon before she started working in January. She was already on Emilia's radar, all she needed was to finish writing- or so they thought.
Denise deliberately failed to mention to Emilia, and Chris- for obvious reasons- that she'd already written what they needed her to write; all she needed to do now was to convert it into script format. That was the thing about writers, especially those who wrote more than they breathed. Denise began writing their story the day after she met Chris. She didn't share everything she wrote but she wrote about everything; the good, the bad, and the wonderful. She kept the document a secret because she wanted to marry Chris first. She knew if she told him that he'd put her and her dreams first, rushing everything else so she could start work as soon as possible. She didn't want that, she didn't want to rush her wedding or her honeymoon; she couldn't rush what was most important to her.

"Chris?"
Chris continued to lose himself in his thoughtless daydream, tapping his knuckles against the table's glass surface. It wasn't until Denise waved a hand in his direction that he snapped out of it and gave her one of his adorable smiles. She found herself mirroring that smile as she held up the card again. He nodded, "that looks awesome. Sorry," he chuckled as he dropped his hands to his lap. "I'm just thinking."
"About what?" Denise asked as she walked over to Chris. He wheeled his chair a small distance away from the table and gently patted his lap. Denise shook her head at his gesture. She liked public displays of affection, she thought them to be endearing. But she felt it'd be uncomfortable at their current location, even though the strangers at their current location were helping them with their wedding. "Is everything okay?" She asked as she took the empty chair beside his instead.
"Everything's great," he answered with a nod, taking her hands in his. "I'm just daydreaming," he told her then gently knocked on the top of his head, "nothing important's running through this chunk of wood." She chuckled with a shake of her head. "I don't really know what I'm thinking about, I'm just happy, y'know? Our wedding is in three months, that's insane."
"It is," she agreed. "But you know what, Chris?"
"What, Denise?" He ran his thumbs across her knuckles.
"I'm okay," she answered, smiling. "I'm ready to do this, like- I no longer feel blindsided or overwhelmed by the idea of getting married, I just want to do this. I want to get married and play house with you," she joked and he laughed. "Speaking of. Are we thinking of moving back to Boston after we get married, or are we going to continue to stay here in Los Angeles?"
"I think that's a question we can answer a little ways down the road," he answered and she nodded. "Right now we've got a little too much on our plate to worry about where we're going to live. Let's focus on the wedding then sort everything out after our honeymoon. After all, we don't know where you're going to be needed. Let's wait until after you finish writing your script and sign with a production company, okay?" She nodded, suddenly suffering immense guilt for lying about the status of her story. "What's wrong?"
"If I tell you something, will you promise not to react the way you want to?"
"Wait, what?" His eyes narrowed. He chuckled, "what is that suppose to mean?"
"Just- I want you not to react the way you want to," she answered. "Can you do that?"
"As much as I'd like to, you are being scarily vague." He reminded her and she pressed her lips together. "But I do love you, and I trust you. So while I can't promise you I won't, I can promise you I'll try my utmost best." He told her and she smiled. "How's that, hm? Is that a good offer?"
"A great one," she nodded. "It's really not that big a deal, to be honest. I just wanted to tell you that I um..." She trailed off, licking her dry lips. It wasn't that big a deal, but she was still afraid he'd be upset. She did lie, even if it was in their best interest. "Sorry," she chuckled softly when Chris cleared his throat to regain her attention. "I um- I wanted to tell you that I'm finished."
"With the script?" His eyes lit up. "You finished the script? Nise, that's amazing. We need to call E-"
"It's not in script format yet," she cut him off, giggling. "But the story finished. It's in the format of a novel, ready to be converted." His mouth formed an 'O' shape. "I know my news is premature, and not at all what you expected when I said 'I'm finished', but it's been something I've been sitting on for a while and I don't like keeping things from you."
"You've been sitting on it for a while?" He narrowed his eyes in confusion. "How long is a while?"
"I wrote about us in real time, Chris," she explained. "Whatever happened, I wrote as it happened. I didn't write with an intention to do anything with it, it was just written out of habit. I wanted to keep it just for us, or even our future children." He ran a thumb over his bottom lip as he pondered for an appropriate reaction. "I kept it from you because I didn't want to feel like we had to rush things. I know you want this for me, but I want you more." Their eyes simultaneously welled with tears as smiles stretched across their faces. "Nothing is more important to me than you, Chris Evans."
"Baby," he chuckled and drew her in for a hug. "I love you, and I think it's adorable that you felt the need to be scarily vague with that piece of information." He pulled away, cupping her face in his hands. "I made the right choice choosing to marry you."
"I made the right choice choosing to marry you too," she smiled, planting a quick kiss on his right palm before he dropped his hands to his lap. "Emilia said she'd meet with me whenever I'm done, so after our honeymoon- I'll convert it into script format, go meet with her, and start walking the path you so selflessly found for me."
"Sounds like a plan, my future Mrs. Evans." His smile reached his eyes when he said 'Mrs. Evans'. She chuckled, baring her perfect teeth as she grinned. "A perfect plan," he leaned forward and pressed his lips against her forehead.
