《Kiss It Better, Dr. Ross》Coffee Date... Kinda

I really wish it was only me and you

---

Ryan led Brendon down to the hospital cafeteria. Brendon glanced around, mainly seeing nurses and doctors grabbing a snack and talking amongst themselves.

"This kinda reminds me of high school," Brendon said jokingly. Ryan looked down at Brendon, chuckling at the comment.

"In a way, it kinda is I guess." Brendon looked up confused, silently asking for clarification. "After so many years of only going to school, most of us lack basic social skills that aren't in the doctor patient context and never really had time for relationships. We might be intelligent," Ryan cut off when he noticed Brendon staring off at a doctor, face buried in a file and bumping into the wall on the other side of the room before successfully walking through the doorway. "Most of us might be intelligent, but we have similar social skills to high schoolers." Brendon chuckled softly.

"That must be interesting." Ryan went up to the counter with the coffee. He poured himself and Brendon a cup.

"Would you like something else? A muffin? Danish?" Brendon smiled and shook his head.

"I think I'm okay with the coffee." Ryan led them over to an empty table.

"How are you feeling," Ryan asked, unable to shake off his concern.

"I'm okay. Sorry about all the trouble I caused you."

"I work in a hospital. Believe me, you fainting was no trouble at all." Brendon looked down to hide his growing smile. "So," Ryan started. "How come you were out late at the bar?" Brendon chuckled.

"Safe to assume, doing the same thing you were," he finished with a smirk. "Is that a problem?"

"No problem. Just confused that you would need to do that."

"Why?"

"With someone as attractive as you, I'd think you'd already have a special someone waiting for you at home." Brendon bit his bottom lip, blushing slightly from Ryan's smooth voice.

"Haven't had a special someone in quite some time actually and I wouldn't exactly count my roommate to fit that category." Ryan found himself frowning. It wouldn't be hard for someone like Brendon to get a boyfriend, so why was he still be single? "Don't look at me like that."

"Like what?"

"Like you're studying me. If you wanna know my secrets Ross, you're gonna have to get me more than just coffee."

"Would coffee get me the answer as to why someone as gorgeous as you is single?"

"I wouldn't say I'm gorgeous," Brendon mumbled. He continued before Ryan had a chance to object. "But some stuff happened recently that has left me boyfriendless." He sighed and shrugged. Ryan could sense a hint of uneasiness radiating through Brendon's calm stature. He didn't have the chance to question it as the empty chairs around them filled with his coworkers.

"Ryan, can you believe I have to deal with another crazy mother-in-law? Why do these women think their opinion and Google research is better than my degree?" Brendon read Tyler Joseph off the badge of the man that sat next to him. He was biting into an apple, huffing in annoyance as he chewed.

"Well at least you don't have someone refusing surgery on a brain tumor because they don't want to face the risks that come with the procedure. Jon was telling me he had a patient who was doing the same thing. Don't these people know no treatment is worse than treatment? Do they have some kind of death wish?" Brendon tensed slightly.

'Gerard Way,' Brendon read on the black haired man's badge clipped to his hip before he sat down beside Ryan. There was a laugh from the third person who was sitting at the head of the table.

"What are you all happy about, Patrick?" Dr. Joseph frowned.

"I've actually been having a great day. Mrs. Dana delivered her twins early this morning. All happy and healthy."

"Wasn't she the one with a history of multiple miscarriages," Ryan questioned. Patrick nodded.

"She'd been worried all her pregnancy about her babies safety, more than her own. The only she could complain about was that she went into labor at three so her husband fell asleep not long after she gave birth and he knew they were all okay."

"What do you expect from the best baby doctor around? Once she was put into your care, everyone knew she finally had a chance to have kids."

"Congrats Pat."

"So, are we not gonna talk about the stranger here with us?" Gerard asked. Brendon slouched in his chair when all eyes darted to him.

"Oh yeah."

"He doesn't look like he works here."

"A stranger from the outside." In unison the three new doctors let out childish 'ooo'. Ryan let out a small laugh as he watched Brendon squirm under the mens' gazes.

"This is Brendon. Brendon, this is Tyler, Gerard and Patrick." Brendon waved shyly. Apparently, he loses confidences around all doctors. Good to know Ryan isn't the only one who has this effect on him.

"You mean that cute guy you brought in last night," Gerard whisper-shouted to Ryan. He held up his hand to cover his mouth from Brendon, but that was pointless.

"Yes," Ryan whisper-shouted back, knowing they were easily heard. "And he can still hear you."

"Right." Gerard sat back, grinning proudly. "It's true. Last night, you looked pretty adorable, but I must apologize because now seeing you up close and conscious, you're pretty damn hot," he finished with a wink.

"Thanks?" Brendon said with a blush.

"Ryan was really worried about you. Took us forever to send him home to get some rest," Patrick chimed in.

"Had to pull him out of your room to make sure he wasn't trying to put in your IV," Tyler added. Brendon looked over at Ryan who was glaring at the three men.

"I don't blame him. If I saw a face like yours, I wouldn't want to leave your side either," Gerard joked.

"Dude, you're married."

"Doesn't mean I can't admire. Plus, Frankie is always down for a threesome and Brandon is one handsome fellow," Gerard defended with a grin.

"Brendon," Ryan corrected, nudging Gerard a little too hard. "His name's Brendon." Gerard looked between the two, smirking.

"Brendon. My mistake. So, what's going on here? Did we... interrupt something?" The trio leaned in, eyes wide with curiosity. Brendon exchanged a glance with Ryan before looking down. He hated feeling so shy all of a sudden. He was not the type to be shy.

"No, nothing." Brendon felt his spirits sink at the response. "I was just getting him some coffee before he left." The three exchanged side glances before nodded, none believing the excuse.

"Right," they responded in a suspicious, dragged out voice.

"I actually should get going. My roommate will be wondering where I am." Brendon stood up and Ryan quickly followed.

"Do you need a ride or anything?"

"No, it's okay. You should probably be getting back to work and I think I've troubled you enough already."

"It was no trouble. It was a pleasure." Patrick cleared his throat, alerting Ryan to pay attention to his choice of words. "Not that you getting drugged was a pleasure. I'm sure you didn't enjoy that just it was a pleasure to be the one who caught you and brought you here. Well I didn't bring you, the ambulance did. I just followed and waited to make sure you were okay," he rushed out.

"Smooth," Gerard whispered.

"Shut up," Ryan whispered back more aggressively. Brendon chuckled softly. "Here let me walk you out."

"Thanks." Brendon turned to the other doctors. "It was nice to meet you." Ryan quickly led him away from the table before the men could say something else to embarrass him. Though, he could feel their eyes on them as they left the cafeteria.

"Sorry about them. Like I said, it's like we're back in high school and you're apparently the hot cheerleader so they were just trying to mess around." Brendon looked away, smiling down to the floor.

"Guess the life of a doctor isn't that much different from everyone else's." Ryan chuckled and shrugged.

"Aside from the cutting people open, yeah not that different." It was a lame joke, but Ryan was proud when he earned himself a small laugh. Brendon peaked up, meeting Ryan's eyes. "So, I was wondering," he started. "Since my friends crashed our little coffee date, maybe I could make up for it by taking you out to a nice dinner sometime?"

"I'd like that. Here, let me see your phone." Ryan willingly handed his phone over. Brendon programmed his number into it before handing it back. "Give me a call." Ryan nodded.

"I will."

"Can't wait." Brendon gave another smile before walking away. Ryan watched the man walk down the street along the hospital.

"Be careful." Ryan jumped and spun around to see Jon standing behind him.

"What?"

"Be careful with him," Jon repeated.

"Why?" Jon looked uneasy, like he was hiding something, but couldn't say.

"Just please don't get too attached. I don't want to see you get hurt."

"I'm a big boy, Jon. I think I'll be fine." Jon sighed and nodded. He went back inside without another word, leaving Ryan to think about is warning.
