《Crash Into Me || A Seth MacFarlane AU》Chapter Two

When she woke again it was a bit less jarring than before when she had blacked out from the pain in her shoulder. Her wrist hurt far more now, while her shoulder was just kind of weak and aching. She had also shifted to the ground at some point in her sleep without it waking her up. None of that surprised her because with the state her body was in she had to have been worn out. As she sat up she looked around and noticed a few things were different. The biggest thing being that there was a tent set up about twenty feet away from where she was. Where did he get a tent? How did he put it together by himself? She didn't think Seth was a moron by any means but at the same time she guessed she hadn't expected him to do much while she was just sleeping there. The other thing she noticed was that a bunch of luggage had been moved up to where they were. A lot of it had been opened and there were different piles of things. Two of the piles were clothes and those were the largest. Then there was a pile of medication bottles, prescription and regular. Another with basic toiletries like toothbrushes that were still in their original packaging, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, and mouthwash. The next was food items. All of them looked like snack foods or souvenirs that people would be bringing from Japan to give to other people.
The first pile she moved to was the medication, mostly because she was curious about if there was anything in there to be able to help her or Seth. Statistically, with how things were, there was at least a decent chance that one of those bottles contained some antibiotics. All of them had labels in Japanese with no English but since she'd grown up in Japan more than she had in the states she could read it and speak it fluently. She assumed that Seth hadn't really touched anything in that pile because he didn't understand what most of it meant. The first useful thing she found was a bottle of prescription painkillers. It looked like it had just been filled, probably for the trip. There were thirty in there and they were strong, more than likely for someone with end-stage cancer, which made her frown. What a way to actually go.
"Hey, you can read that stuff?" Seth asked from behind her.
"Huh?" She asked, looking up and turning to position her head over her shoulder to see him. "Yes, I read and speak Japanese fluently."
"Nice," He smiled and came around to the other side of her to sit down. In his hand, he had what looked like a tackle box for fish. The sun had already peaked, at some point, and was starting to go down, they probably only had a few more hours left before it would get dark. "What's that one you are holding?"
"Painkillers." She said, "Really strong ones." She opened the bottle and took one out, downing it without any sort of water then held it out towards him. He did the same, except he took two. She would have mentioned that he might regret that but seeing as he was supposed to be some celebrity (even if she wasn't sure exactly who) he probably did drugs a lot. Or that was what she assumed. Not that she cared, especially not while stuck on this island with the types of injuries they had.
"This is what I was looking for." She held up another bottle once she spotted it, "Antibiotics, are you allergic to anything?"

"Not that I know of." He said. She held the bottle out towards him and shook it. He looked at her for a moment like she was insane before taking it. "You want me to have these? What about you?"
"There's a much bigger chance you're going to get an infection than me." She replied, "Take one every four hours until they are gone and if possible with food."
"Sadly, we do not have a bunch of food around here but, good news, I found fresh water when you were out and a bunch of camping gear." He said. She looked at the tent and what he was holding, and though she hadn't seen the rest of what he had found it kind of made sense that there would be other supplies if there was already that much.
"You found freshwater?" She asked. "And you should really take it easy on that leg, you don't want it to-"
"I'll be fine." He cut her off and grabbed a bag of chips from the pile of snack food that had been set aside. He tossed it in her direction and she opened it. He was more helpful than she assumed he'd be. Her mind had told her that a guy like him would probably have an assistant for everything, even tying his shoes, but he wasn't like that. Not even close. He was barely even whiny.
"What else did you find?" She continued, "And where is this water?"
"I'll show you, it's not a far walk from here. If you feel up to it. We'll need to collect some anyway. Start a fire and all of that." He said, getting up as he reached out his hand for her to take it. The tackle box was left in the sand by where he had sat down. "The tent is really only big enough for two people but I think we can make that work, don't you?"
"It will be better than sleeping outside with all the bugs and God only knows what else." She laughed softly. He walked over to it and unzipped the outer door. He reached in to pull out two large canteens that would hold a decent amount of water. She took one of them and slung it over her shoulder, he did the same with his. "Well, lead the way." In the tent, she could see that there were a number of things that he must have found among the luggage. A few wrapped up sleeping bags, some cooking supplies, a large flashlight, and what looked like a battery that could be cranked like a generator for reusable power. Talk about getting lucky.
"Come on," He said, "I would have done this before but I didn't want you to wake up alone and freak out or something."
"I did wake up alone." She laughed.
"Not really, I was on the beach but I could still see where you were. If you had yelled my name I'd have heard you. I don't think I would have if I was by this river I found." He replied. She nodded, that made sense. Though she didn't think she would have freaked out at all if she couldn't see him. What he had done was just try to be nice and there was no reason to scold him for that. It was understandable.
"You're sure the water is fresh? You taste it? Because I have no idea how to desalinate anything." She told him.

"Neither do I." He said, "But I did taste it and it's definitely not saltwater." She smiled and continued to walk after him, noticing that she wasn't stepping on a lot of plants or debris. It didn't make sense to her because being barefoot in the jungle should have been far more of a problem than it was. She looked down at the path that he was taking her on and saw that it was actually a path. Or it had been at some point. There were stones placed there, and though there was growth over them, it wasn't a ton. What struck her the most was that it was the type of path formation that would have never occurred in nature on its own. Someone had put it there, but for what reason? When?
As they continued, she noticed fruit growing off to the sides of the trail here and there. A few mangoes, some bananas that had fallen, a few coconuts, wild strawberries, and blackberries...it was something far better than she could have hoped for. This led her to remove her jacket to collect as much as she could to carry with them, leaving her in just her tank top and slacks. It took about twenty minutes or so to get to the river but in the grand scheme of things that was a short walk and finding their way back wouldn't be hard because of the path. The river wasn't just beautiful but there was a waterfall there too. It was in a clearing surrounded by trees and tropical flowers. It would have been paradise had they also not ended up there due to a horrible plane crash.
"Wow," She said, "How did you find this place? Just the path?" She got down by the river and splashed some of the cold water on her face.
"Yeah, which is weird right? Someone put that there. Maybe ten or fifteen years ago but it's there for a reason. Seems to end here." He said, getting down next to her to fill the canteen he was holding. She nodded, wondering if he was right or not. Why would the path only lead from the beach to this clearing and not anywhere else? It was certainly possible that was the case but she didn't think it was likely. There had to be more, they would just have to find it when they got the chance.
"How's your leg?"
"I'm holding up just fine, Lei." He said like she was being ridiculous.
"Please don't call me that," She sighed, "My name is Leila for a reason how would you like if I called you...See or something?"
"With that rack I don't care what you call me." He laughed, motioning to her boobs which were far more on display without the jacket she had to cover it. She looked at him, wanting to be mad, but there was something oddly charming about how he said it. Not to mention the fact that even if he hadn't, she was pretty sure he'd have been thinking it anyway. Since she worked in sex crimes and her biggest expertise was in sexual psychology, none of this surprised or offended her. If anything he was just being a normal human male. She also wasn't blind to the fact that her tits were pretty big. It was why she'd had them covered before, to look more professional.
"Well, I'd prefer Leila. You haven't known me long enough to call me Lei." She said, ignoring his comment about her chest. She finished filling up the canteen and then got back to her feet to look around. From where she was, she couldn't see another path or anything that would indicate there were people there, or ever had been there. She frowned and placed the cap on her bottle then picked up the makeshift sack for food that she'd fashioned out of her blazer.
"What did you get in there?" He asked, standing up and capping his canteen as well.
"Fruit, a lot of it." She said, "It'll be better than just eating the canned emergency stuff and snacks we found."
"Eventually we can probably get fish," He said, motioning to the river. She looked down into it and noticed there were, in fact, fish swimming around. She wasn't sure she'd know how to clean or gut a fish once they had one but there wouldn't be a better time to learn unless he had some idea. She dedicated that they could worry about that later.
"Come on, let's get back. We need to start a fire before it gets too late and I need to eat before that pill upsets my stomach." She told him.
"Sounds fair enough." He agreed.

When they got back to the tent area, both of them started to gather things to make a fire. They were a bit slowed down since they had each taken those heavy painkillers and she was giggling more than she knew she should be. It was hard to focus and her head was spinning, despite the fact that she had eaten at least one banana and a handful of the berries that she had found to make sure her stomach wasn't entirely empty. The waterproof matches were a lifesaver in getting the fire going. One which she tended to the most because Seth either didn't know how to do it or was too out of it to try. What he was able to do was get one of the larger pots from the culinary set of camping stuff they had found and fill it with water from their canteens to boil. It was big enough to hold both amounts. She sat down by the fire and used the swiss army knife to open the tops of the coconuts.
"So that's how you do that," Seth said while he watched, "Good to know."
"Yeah, my friend Rika taught me years ago." She replied and handed him the first one she had opened at the top. Both of them sounded like they had plenty of liquid inside which would be good because they needed to hydrate and they would definitely need the potassium the milk would offer. She opened the second one and started to drink from it as she waited for the water to boil. "Help yourself to some of the fruit as well, and don't forget to take that penicillin."
"Already done," He said and took another sip from his coconut, "We got very lucky here you know. I don't think it will be so bad waiting for help." She smiled at him and nodded. That was true, other than the fact that he very well could get a bad infection in his thigh which could be potentially deadly. If not that, they could be looking at amputation of some sort. She didn't think it would be nice to bring that up because staying positive would be better for them than not.
"Yes, it could be much worse." She agreed, "We can probably use some of this fruit for bait to get fish, if not, there are plenty of bugs around. Shouldn't be too hard to dig for worms or grubs. We can eat grubs too, you know."
"We? You mean you."
"I'll eat what I have to in order to survive but I'm not going to make you do anything you don't want." She said. He was a grown-ass man and though she could understand why grubs were not an appealing meal she'd certainly rather have them than starve to death waiting for people to get there and help them. "So voice actor huh? What kind of voices?"
"You really don't know, do you?" He asked, looking far more amused by that than annoyed. She thought it was maybe nice for him to experience someone who didn't know who he was but frustrating at the same time. With how confused he seemed to be she was guessing he was A-list and she was the one who looked like she lived under a rock without a television or something. "Do you just not watch TV?"
"Not really, I mean I like documentaries and things. I only watch other stuff when my friend Rika is in town. She always stays with me and drags me into watching something with her. She insists that I need to know more about pop culture because I'm missing out or whatever. I don't see it that way but we have fun when we are together so I don't hate it, really." She explained. He nodded and finished the rest of what was in his coconut then looked at it.
"Any easy way to get this open now?"
"Yeah, once the fluid is out you just need to hit it against a rock a few times, it'll shatter quite easily." She replied. He looked around and found a medium-sized rock not too far from where he was. After two hits against the thing, he had cracked the coconut open. Then he started to eat the flesh of the fruit from the inside. She took another gulp of water from her coconut.
"Family Guy, American Dad, Cleveland Show...?" He asked, obviously the title of things that he had either been on or written or both. Whatever he had contributed to them she wasn't sure but he had to be bringing them up because he was part of them in some way. She had heard the names in passing, possibly seen an episode here or there but she wasn't big into cartoons and she was very aware that's what they were.
"I've maybe seen an episode or two but I wouldn't know much about any of them. Have you done anything live action?" She asked.
"Most recently The Orville. TV show." He said and went back to eating his coconut.
"Orville..." She muttered, that one sounded more familiar to her than the others, "Is that a space show like Star Trek?"
"Yes, somewhat."
"Okay yeah, you're...Ed Mercer right?" She asked. There had been a point where Rika and her had binge-watched the first season. It had to have been over a year before this crash but she had enjoyed the show enough to have the memories in place. "I liked that show because it was cute. Only saw the first season so if there's any more than that, I don't know."
"You liked it?"
"Yeah." She laughed, "I mean I would have watched more I'm sure but with my schedule how it is I...well like I said I'm not a big TV person."
"Also season two was a bit delayed so that's understandable. I'm just glad you enjoyed what you saw." He said, grinning stupidly. If she had to guess he was very proud of this show, maybe more than the others. However, if she starred in a show she also wrote or created, she'd probably see it the same way so she couldn't exactly blame him if he had a big head over it. "Why is it you uh...the FBI thing? You could do anything, including buy and sell my ass down the river but you go with FBI agent?"
"I wanted a career where I could help people and make a difference. At first, I was just going to be a psychiatrist but I kind of got recruited for this and it stuck. Now I feel like I'm helping people and making a huge difference. The idea of just sitting around with no purpose and doing whatever because I had a trust fund did not appeal to me whatsoever. I also never wanted to be famous for the sake of being famous. Such a...boring life." She sighed. Even if she could understand why that type of thing appealed to other people it hadn't to her. Her parents had always been hard workers as well, they had instilled in her an incredible work ethic that she wanted to continue. Though they had wanted her to take over the business she had other plans in mind. Now her friend Rika ran it as she oversaw all of the operations and signed off on major decisions as her parents had dictated in their will. That was why she had been in Japan in the first place.
"Admirable." He said, "Is that why you were in Japan though? Business?"
"Yes. What about you?"
"Pleasure mostly. Vacation. A bit of networking but nothing serious." He shrugged. "Had to get away from some things for a bit and I'm glad I did, even with this plane crash."
"Why? Because you met me and I'm just so awesome?" She asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she did. The water had been boiling for an appropriate amount of time so she grabbed a towel to put over the handles of the pot and move it into the sand where it could cool down. She then grabbed a flat rock and placed it over the flames and coals to heat it up.
"I do like knowing you. Not sure I would say you are awesome but it's different. Mostly because you have very little clue as to who I am so you're not going to treat me like I'm some sort of...God." He said.
"Yeah well no offense, even if you were someone I absolutely loved like Bon Jovi, I wouldn't act that way. Fame and money doesn't make you any less of a person at the end of the day. We both are rich, filthy rich, but how is that money helping us now?" She asked before cracking her coconut open and putting a few of the shards on the rock to heat them up.
"Good point," He said, "At least you're a doctor though. That's more helpful than a man whose only talent is doing random character voices for a living."
"Maybe, but...you could probably keep my spirits up with a few good jokes and as we all know laughter is the best medicine."
"You think we're gonna laugh these injuries away?" He smirked.
"No, but, it should help us get through the worst of the suffering." She told him then carefully picked up one of her cooked coconut pieces and blew on it to cool it off. The more they sat there and talked the more she found herself attracted to him, which she knew she shouldn't. In the real world she'd have hardly looked at him twice and she was guessing he wouldn't have looked at her either. Not with the type of women he could and probably did have. The moment they got off of the island she doubted that they would be very close or keep much contact with each other, and that was okay. She'd rather have this be a memory in a long life than end up abandoned to die on an island with him because help never came.
"What if...they don't find us?" He asked.
"They will, it might take a week or two but they will." She said, because she believed it. Only in the way that she had to believe something like that would happen because if she didn't then she would go insane.
