《Wrecked》The group that unites

"We only found more food, even a habitat of mongoose just outside of here. At least we think they are mongoose." Joe spoke up, the first person to actually speak over the loud mumble of everyone's voices. Everyone had their own things that they had stumbled across, some useful and others interesting- like Ari who had discovered a collection of herbs that his mum used to use on him when they would go camping.
"We found one too." Caila added, nodding at the group that Joe sat with. "But we weren't sure what it was, I've never seen one in Australia."
"That would be because we don't have any in Australia." Vincent teased, chuckling at the girl besides him. Caila rolled her eyes in response but couldn't help herself from allowing a laugh to fill the air.
"We found a camp site." James broke threw the laughter and it caught everyone's attention creating a blanket of silence over everyone.
I could see eyes wide in disbelief, people shaking there heads like it couldn't be true, people who were holding back further questions out of pure confusion and shock.
It was only my group that didn't have the same reaction. And that didn't go unnoticed by everyone else.
"We waited in hiding for someone to return, but they never did. We searched threw some of the stuff there but it was all pretty useless. We didn't go into their tent though, so they could have had anything in there. Like even the missing teenagers bodies." Joe continued before his son spoke up.
"But Cara is right there. Where is the rest of them?" Everyone's heads wiped from Joe to my feet, eyes searching the petite blond for answers.
"You guys didn't look surprised when I told you- did you find the person?" Elena pried, Dailia gripping her hand with white knuckles.
All eyes were on me, they were all digging for what we clearly knew, what we hadn't told them yet. I brought in a deep breath and released in slowly before I started to explain. Where did I start? With my whole story? With everything I knew? Or just what they needed to know?

What they needed to know. They wouldn't trust me and allow me to help them if they knew what I had done. And I couldn't live with myself if I didn't help them.
"We found Cara after he had attacked their group. All of the teenagers were dead already, but we made it in just enough time to get Cara out of there alive." I paused, waiting for Cara to share her experience.
"I didn't see anything, just a man that came out from nowhere throwing around knives and shooting arrows. I was knocked down by Jeremy and didn't dare move to see what was happening. He was gone before I could get a glance- Sorry guys." She dropped her head, bringing back the memories clearly painful for her. I squeezed her shoulder as her weight fell back onto my shins.
"While we waited with Cara the boys went out and when they came back, well-" I gestured to Mason, who's bloodied and torn body was weakly sat up- his face finally showing signs of pain.
"Did he get to Jesse? Is that why Jesse isn't here?" Ari shouted out as he jumped up, his sister was quick to pull him back down- shushing him.
"I bet Jesse died protecting Mason, Mason might have lost his whole hand but Jesse jumped in and now he has the other four fingers still!" JJ joined in with Ari, the young boys admiration for Jesse evident. His eyes filled with Joy at the thought of a brave Jesse saving a boys life just to lose his own. How old was this kid?
"Is Jesse dead?"
"Who is that guy?
"Is he alone?
"What does he want with us?"
"We aren't alone on this island!"
"Are we even safe?"
"Why has no one come to find us yet!"
The questions were thrown around, the group before me losing any control they had moments before. A frantic vibe filled the air, the questions striking fear within everyone. I saw as people comforted the young children, trying to calm them down before they got too overwhelmed.
People were losing it, screaming out at me, Caila and Vincent like we had all the answers. The only unfair thing was that I did have most of the answers. But I wouldn't be calming them with the truth, the truth would only arise more panic.

"Guy, Guy." I held my hands out, which immediately hushed over the group- all of their eyes locked onto me.
"Jesse isn't dead." You don't know that, he could be. And it would be your fault.
"Who ever it is out there has not found us here yet and Jesse is out there making sure that he doesn't. We just need to be extra careful- keep the noise down and not let this scare us. There should be someone here to find us anytime soon." That seemed to calm some of the people down, their fear leaving their eyes and stances being replaced with a small glimmer of peace. But some weren't falling for my words.
"Look guys, we can't let this fear define us. We can't live every day ridded with fear and pain. We need hope, we need to hope that everything is going to be okay- some one is going to come find us and it's going to be any day now. Those people that went out there had no idea of what they were facing- but we do now. So we wont be defenceless, if he's stupid enough to come here we'll be ready. We'll be ready to make him pay for what he' done."
By the end of my rant I was strong, sure of my words and powerful. I could feel it in my stance, the conviction with which my words were enunciated. I believed in my words with every fibre of my body, we'd make him pay for killing the defenceless- for bring down a plane and ended the lives of so many innocents.
The group before me didn't know the full meaning behind my words but they still began to nod in agreement, the males even grunting in agreement. They would hell out- Yeah! Between my sentences, their eyes finally filling with hope and anger. The good kind of anger. The anger that got things done, the anger that would make this guy sorry one day.
"What do you say? We ready to protect what we've got going here?" I played along with the vibe in the air, raising my voice and calling out waiting for a response ten times as loud.
"Hell yeah!" There was a cheer of excitement, people finally able to hold onto a true sense of hope.
"Well then." As I spoke I reached for my bad, pulling out the crossbow that I had buried at the bottom of my bad. I threw it to the ground and watched as everyone's eyes widened.
"I have three of these so far, but they are scattered everywhere threw this forest. Tomorrow we will discuss sending out groups to search for them. We will need a group to search for anything else we can use as a weapon of defence tool. I'll head back to the camp site, he has to be storing his weapons somewhere." I made it all up on the spot, but it just seemed to work.
Looking up to the group I, myself, was flooded with hope. The eyes of my fellow survivors telling me that the determination and grit in their eyes wasn't going anywhere. If we were leaving this island It would be in one piece, no other lives lost, and on a rescue boat. Not some man who think's he's gotten the better of us.
"So."I paused looking to my side to see if I had their support too, I was greeted with nods and a fire in their eyes. All I needed was a nod from Jesse, to tell me that I was doing to right thing. That it would all work out because he was there with me. But I had to be strong on my own this time.
Looking back at the group I knew what we had to do.
"Tomorrow, we get to work."

Steps of the Immortal Tree
Evan stood on a hill, staring calmly at the gate of his former clan. A crowd waited behind him, some eyeing the clan in an unresigned manner, others looking at their spiritual support. Some of the young children shivered at the gnawing cold. Wind howled in his ears, seemingly deploring his fate. A silvery cloud drifted over the mountains surrounding the compound. The roar of a river could be heard from underneath its frozen surface. He had reincarnated many years ago. Hailed as a prodigy from his youngest age, Evan had seemingly tread on a path to invincibility. He had gotten married with his childhood sweetheart and had cultivated with a group of friends, forming a considerable power of his own. Yet now, here he was, devoid of any path to move forward, with his energy locus destroyed. His wife was dead and his branch had been kicked out of the clan. He looked at his progeny that had been entrusted to him. The baby seemed content in his father’s strong arms, too young to understand anything but the warmth of the father’s beating heart. Signaling to the people behind him, he turned around and the procession gradually disappeared in the distance, as the sun gradually set and the stars acted as a guide. --- Author-san here.
