《》Chapter 5

The matron was really surprised by the amount of interest I took in my work in the recent times. I did all my work before she could say anything. Puzzled, she asked me, "Well, Miss Storm? I've never seen you so focused in your work before."

"Oh," I said, grinning, "I think I should work hard in order to support my family better. And I've sort of taken a liking to this job."

"You weren't like this when you first joined work, though."

"Be serious, Miss Mason! I was only a kid back then."

The matron, Natalie Mason sighed, and walked away. I chuckled to myself. She had no idea that all this change was possible, just because of Gina.

I added a new thing to my daily routine. After my shift got over, I met Gina in the very coffee parlor I visited one day, and talked to her properly. The only difference - both of us were quite normal while speaking to each other. Gina's appearance, as I noticed, had changed completely. The dark circles under her eyes were gone, there was a little color in her pale skin, her wavy, blond hair looked more beautiful than over. Maybe, it's because she realized that she could change too.

One evening, after my shift got over, I met Gina in the cafeteria. She had reached way before me. Seeing me enter, she greeted me with a bright smile. "Good evening, Drew."

"Evening, Gina," I said, sitting down facing her, "how's your mother?"

"She's a little weak, but yeah she's completely recovered. Thanks for asking, though."

"That's good to know. Appendicitis is a nasty disease."

Our coffees arrived. We sipped our coffees silently. After five minutes, I said, "About that day, when we-"

"Oh, just forget that, Drew," Gina said, blushing, "I kind of enjoyed it. Nobody kisses me, nowadays."

"I can kiss you again if you want-"

"Maybe, someday later, dear."

Gina began grinning. She had an irresistible grin. I grinned along with her as well. After a while, she said, "My dad's retired, mom doesn't work, and I am a flopped actress. Our family needs financial help."

"I want to help you, Gina," I said, sighing, "but it's the same with me. It's just that my condition is worse than yours. I'm uneducated."

"Drew, my love, you deserve a way better life, not just being a nurse. You could have gotten a job at some top tech company. I know you've gotten that potential."

"But, I'm uneducated! How can a school dropout join an IT company?"

Gina held my hands, just like the way I held hers that day. She brought her mouth closer to me, her lips touched my cheek. As I went red, she whispered, "Drew, that day, you said something to me. Alone, we may be wasted, but together, we can go really far. You may be a school dropout, but I am not! You're the one with a job, while here I sit, jobless. Both of us are lacking something in our life. So, let me give you all the knowledge I acquired at school and university, and then we'll get a better job, together."

"I would love that, Gina," I said, almost sobbing, "but what about my job, and my family?"

"Don't worry, leave everything on me," Gina said, winking at me. I smiled, and hugged her tightly. I knew if anyone could help me, it would only be her, and that's why I love her.
