《More Than Meets the Eye (A Ninjago Fanfic)》Chapter 6: Enemy Identity

"NOOOO!!!!" I screamed, jerking awake. I shot upright to a sitting position in a cold sweat, the bed sheets disheveled and half on the floor. I was breathing heavily and shaking, glancing frantically around my room as I began to remember where I was.
"Shimmer, what happened?!" Asked Sensei Wu from the doorway. "We heard screaming." He added, the ninja gathered behind him.
I couldn't hold it back. The fear sparked by the nightmare was too much. I curled up, my knees against my chest and my hands hiding my face as I cried, my body racked with gasping sobs.
"Please, go back to bed my students." I heard Sensei Wu order as I heard the receding footsteps of the dispersing group of ninjas.
"No, Uncle. Please, let me stay to comfort her." Said Lloyd.
"Alright, Lloyd..." Sensei said hesitantly before loosing a quiet chuckle.
I flinched as I felt a hand on my shoulder. I lifted my eyes to meet Lloyd's as he looked softly down into my tear stained face. Compassion and understanding screamed from his eyes.
"What did you see?" Asked Sensei, understanding that it was a dream that caused me to scream.
I knew that this was not merely a dream. It was a piece of my memory returning to me. This dream held grave news...grave news indeed. "I-I..." I stuttered, not knowing what to say. I thought for a moment and took a shaky breath before continuing. "It was a piece of my memory returning to me. I now remember who I was running from and partially why."
"Who were you running from, Shimmer?" Sensei Wu inquired.
I took a deep breath and remembered the horrible dream. Lloyd's hand, still resting on my shoulder, seemed to have calming effects, my shuddering body calmed and my spinning mind became clear. "I was running from Morro...he plans to take over Ninjago!" I heard a gasp from Sensei. "And I sense that I can either be an aid to his villainous schemes or his downfall!"

"So, my first student has returned..." Muttered Sensei.
"First student?" Asked Lloyd curiously.
"I will explain tomorrow morning. Tomorrow I will call a meeting after our morning training."
"What about me? How could I be Morro's aid or his downfall?" I asked worriedly.
"I do not know...perhaps this knowledge will return to you later." Answered Sensei, clearly more occupied with pondering this new information as he strode from the room, leaving Lloyd and I alone.
I stared at the wall across from the bed, a concerned expression plastered on my face. Lloyd quietly sat on the bed with me and moved his hand from my shoulder to my back, gently rubbing his hand up and down my spine in a comforting gesture. I felt another wave of tears attack my eyes. I bit my lip as one escaped and rolled down my face.
I still couldn't hold back my tears...I was both relieved and terrified. The tears continued to teeter on the brink of my bottom eyelids.
"Shim...?" Lloyd asked quietly.
That was it. All the tears welling up in my eyes broke loose and dripped down my face. I turned to face Lloyd, throwing my arms around his waist and burying my face in his chest, sobbing. Lloyd pulled his hands back for a moment, surprised as I sobbed into his chest. Eventually he put one hand on my back and the other he put on my head and stroked my hair until I fell asleep, still leaning against him.
After Sensei Wu left, I could tell that poor Shimmer was struggling, trying not to cry. "Shim...?" I asked quietly, trying to express my empathy for her. I had seen a stray tear tumble down her face as she bit her lip. She all of a sudden, unexpectedly, hugged my middle and buried her face in my chest. I held my hands up for a moment, taken aback, trying to decide what to do with them. I finally settled on putting my left hand on her back and my right hand on her head. I began to gently and lovingly stroke her hair, attempting to calm her. 'Her hair is so soft!' I thought, lightly blushing to myself.

We sat there in that way until Shimmer fell asleep against me. I didn't want to wake her up, but I couldn't sit like this all night. I gently unwrapped her arms from my middle and positioned her in my arms. I then slowly leaned back until I was laying down with Shimmer in my arms. I felt her relax and snuggle against me in her sleep. I smiled to myself and resumed stroking her hair until I drifted off myself.

Many Minded
Synopsis: Issa Pyxis, Spacer orphan and illegal heretic, graduated from living on the streets to running with a gang years ago, but now it looks like that’s all going to change. Her inheritance, more specifically who—or what—she is, is catching up with her, and on a planet with the Emperor’s inquisitors slinking around in every shadow, nowhere is safe and no one can be trusted. What will she do? A cyberpunk story about identity, loneliness, covert infiltration, evil dystopias, and much more! Features: - Cyborgs and cyberpunk galore - This is indented to be somewhat “rational” and “hard” Sci-Fi story - Original Fiction however parts of my worldbuilding are inspired by other Sci-Fi stories (duh) Rationale: The future is cool, AIs are kickass, and questions about consciousness are simultaneously existential and yet unanswered. To me, this story is a vehicle for exploring these topics, and also, I wanted to write a story where the protagonist was unafraid of themselves and where their self is more like a git-repo than a meat computer. Disclaimer: This story primarily takes place in what we’d describe as a “cyberpunk dystopia” with some extra technocracy, autocracy, and religious fervor thrown into the mix, so there will be some “grittiness” in this story. Caveat emptor. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character and other characters in my story can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way they view the world isn’t always objective truth (if such a thing even exists) nor do their views and opinions necessarily reflect the views of me, the author. The Elements of Terra
A bandit child, son to a recluse man and a dead mother. A thief, who has unyielding determination to become the strongest. A man, who stops at nothing to achieve success in the face of many enemies. A god, who grew to have no equal. This is the story of a man wielding the elements and a lonely sword who rose to conquer the heavens*********My story is about rising to the peak of cultivation. Almost everything in my story has behind it a framework, something that can be explained by another underlying reason. This is my first story and I know I'm bad at names, but I'll try my best. English is my first language, so I should be ok on the grammar side. However, please let me know when I make a mistake so I can fix it.
