《Forbidden Love || Anakin x Reader》Chapter 105: Serpent's Skin

I leaned against the door frame watching his breathing rest and slowly rise. He was sleeping peacefully after the events that had just occurred a few minutes ago. Clovis laid in silk bed sheets that Anakin and I shared almost every night. Seeing Clovis lie there instead of him didn't make things any better.
My thoughts were stuck on what I would do next, what I would do with Anakin. I finally learned the importance of what the Jedi held so of value. Attachment leads to the dark side, and I witnessed the dark side within Anakin.
I couldn't just vanish him away and pretend he didn't exist. I loved him. We shared something more than just a marriage, but he had no idea about a baby. It's something I've been waiting so long to tell but could never find the right time even to bring it out. Perhaps I pretended I was in some fairytale, and he and I would finally get our happy ending.
But it was so much more than just that. We both have responsibilities. Turning the Jedi away wasn't something I had done; that was easy. I craved being a part of the Jedi more than anything. Being Senator was never my dream, but things don't always go as planned. So I lean on this door frame watching over the man who had just got a beating from the man I love.
I sighed to myself, feeling the holes start to form in my heart. An aching pain I didn't want to feel. I headed my way down to our second living area. One that wasn't destroyed and had a fantastic view of the city to take my mind off everything.
My heels stepped onto the stairs carrying myself down, when I noticed his body sitting on the edge of our boarding dock. Had he stayed this entire time? The sounds of heels quickly made his head turn, and his body pulled itself from up the ground.
"How is he?" He sighed as he walked towards my body. I stopped at the center of the two couches, not wanting to come closer. "Nothing that won't heal," I replied. I felt my throat start to burn once again. I pulled on every string I had in me not to sob into tears and yell.
"I'm so sorry, Y/n." He begged. He saw the distance between our bodies and continued to walk slowly. "I don't know what came over me." He stuttered, looking onto his fists again. I shook my head, brushing off the images of the multiple punches he landed.
"What's done is done." I held my palm up, trying to stop this whole conversation. I passed his body, heading towards the dock where he once sat. "It's just when I saw you about to kiss him--" Anakin started, his voice lower and sadder than usual.
"And I regret that I put myself in that situation. But it was not what you thought." I turned back around, pleading my case. "And you must know, I don't care for Clovis." I spat out.
"Don't you?" He questioned.
My eyes widened in shock. If only he knew the things I have done for him. I shook my head, "I've told you many times why I'm doing this, but still, you refuse to accept it. You refuse to believe I'm not capable of handling myself." I felt the tears form once again. Letting one slip before quickly brushing it away.

"You could have killed him, Anakin. You and I both know the force it takes to make it happen. How easily we could fall into the dark side." I added. My breathing became heavier, I felt like screaming, but I didn't want to.
"I know." He sat down on the couch, taking his hand into his face.
"This marriage is not a marriage, Anakin if there isn't any trust." I began. I walked towards his body, sitting right next to him. "We said at the beginning that this would be a terrible mistake," I added.
"What exactly are you saying?" He lifted his head from his hands, looking intensely in my direction. I didn't have the will to look at him back. Instead, I closed my eyes.
"Other people who are married have everything that we don't, and everything that we won't. We live in secret, Anakin. Like it or not, our relationship is built on lies and deception." I opened my eyes to find his broken. I felt an accumulation of tears sliding down my cheek, quickly wiping them.
I stood from the couches.
"I know I went too far. It's just...." Anakin replied in a sigh. "It's just something inside me snapped." He added. Flashbacks appeared on my face as the whole playthrough played once again.
"Exactly, I don't know who's in there sometimes. I just know that I don't feel safe, and I don't feel trusted." I replied. I felt my hands trembling—surprised at the fact that I even had to say any of this.
"But, Y/n-" He stood up. I felt his sadness, making it harder to let go, but it's what I needed at the moment. Space, not forever, but for some time.
"I think it's best if we don't see each other for a while." I softly said as I turned back in the direction of the stairs. I didn't dare look back, knowing it would hurt more.
"Everything all right, Senator?" Typho questioned as he walked down as I was going up. I paused for a mere second, looking back at the brown-haired boy I loved. "No," I replied, passing by his shoulder and continuing my path along.

"The Muun government has seized the accounts and arrested the heads of the Banking Clan. We are indebted to Rush Clovis for his service to our people." A Muun acknowledged. We stood before the Chancellor late at night. Somehow Clovis managed to decrypt the USB.
"Well, I have done only what I thought was right," Clovis replied. Pride filled his voice as he stood tall and proud.
"Considering the information, it appears that the Separatist government has agreed to allow you to be the new head of the banks." The Chancellor replied. A wide smile filled his face. He sat on his large chair, reclining a bit as he relaxed on a joyous occasion.
"And the Republic?" Clovis asked.
"I can only give you my endorsement."
It seemed the only thing we had left to do was vouch for the Senate. Perhaps now they will trust in Clovis. So far, all the claims he has made have been correct.
"All that stands in your way is the Senate," I commented. His face turned onto mine as he softly smiled. I couldn't help but smile back; it was the only way I could have to make him feel better. I cared about Clovis, believe it or not. Despite his past actions, he was a good person.

"Well then, we must take this to the Senate immediately." The Chancellor proposed. He arose from his desk, holding out his arm insisting we leave at this second. I surely wasn't in the mood to stand in front of an audience and beg and plead why Clovis should be trusted and selected, but I wasn't about to let my emotions dictate something that could help the Republic.
We quickly hopped onto the nearest ship transporting us to the Senate chamber. Excitement had filled out bodies as we approached and promptly made our way inside. It seemed to be packed with almost every Senate member.
Clovis and I made our way to our pod as the Chancellor quickly lifted into his prime pod. The pod that stood in the middle of everyones.
"Order. Order!" Mas Amedda shouted as the senate chambers filled with overlapping chatter.
"Good luck," I commented, looking onto Clovis's. This meeting was, in fact, all for him; I was just a supporter.
"Thank you," he replied.
I sat on the pod's chair as we moved into the center of the room.
"Rush Clovis will now address the Senate." Mas Amedda added. My eyes wandered the whole chamber as more and more screams shouted from all areas.
"Traitor!"
"Clovis?"
All sorts of mean things were thrown across the room, and I couldn't help but feel empathy. Clovis stood tall once again, "I come to you today with irrefutable evidence that the heads of the Banking Clan have been stealing funds and have virtually bankrupted the system." He voiced. After each sentence, more and more chatter filled the room.
"I know the Muuns to be good and honest people and that it is the actions of only these unscrupulous few who are responsible. I humbly ask you for your nomination in taking over the banks." He pleaded. My eyes scanned the room, looking at every Senator.
"What can you do?" A male senator screamed from the crowd.
"I will restore order and return the banks to secure and mutual negotiations and transactions," he answered.
"How can we trust you?" Another one yelled.
"I vow to be impartial and show no favor to either side in this war." He answered. The whole meeting became an interview. My head spun in every direction, as did Clovis trying his hardest to live up to every answer possible.
"But you have colluded with the Separatists," Another shouted. I sighed; well, this was my time to talk. "It is the Separatist ties to Rush Clovis that have allowed them to accept this nomination," I shouted as best as I could. My heart still felt like it weighed a ton, but I tried my best.
"He also has the full support of the Muun people."
My eyes snapped in the direction of the Muun. Clovis did say they were like family.
"And what of the Chancellor?" Another yelled.
"I believe that in these dangerous times, the bank must be protected at all costs and that a man who has no allegiance to either side and the support of the Muun people is our best hope." The Chancellor answered.
"Then we shall put it to a vote." Mas Amedda order. The voting screens of the pods had opened, and every Senator around was open to casting their vote.
I looked onto Clovis, who seemed just as nervous as I was. "Have faith," I commented as I walked a few inches towards Clovis, standing right beside him. "Thank you, Y/n." His face turned over to find, casting a faint smile.
"A resounding majority in support of the nomination." Mas Amedda announced. He had the Republic's vote. He didn't once keep his eyes off of me, but with a friendly gesture, he held out his hand, insisting I take it. "Congratulations, Clovis," I said as I took his hand, shaking it.

And there they were, shaking hands as they stared at each other. I know I apologized, but I couldn't help but think it was all part of his plan. A plan that was working in his favor.
I took a deep breath before meeting up with the Chancellor. He was, in fact, the only person who understood what I felt and didn't criticize me for everything I did.
"My boy, I can tell this has been a difficult time. I've known you too long not to see something that is troubling you." The Chancellor hinted. He was right, something was troubling, and that was Clovis himself. I will never trust him, but I will always trust her.
"Your Excellency, forgive me, but you have made a mistake by trusting Clovis." I let out a sigh. He stopped in the middle of his tracks and turned to face me. "Have I?" He questioned rhetorically. "Rest assured, my public endorsement of Clovis is not the same as my private confidence in him," he added.
I was thrown off and confused. "Then what exactly is going on here?"
"We will watch him closely. I don't want to dispute your distrust of him," he answered. I followed his eyes that led to Clovis and Y/n. She looked beautiful; her laugh echoed in the hallway. I couldn't help but notice her smile, her hair, or the curvature of her body in her dress. She was perfect as the day met her.
"I think there is something we haven't unearthed yet, and I would very much like for it to surface." The Chancellor acknowledged. "But people have been hurt... could be hurt in the process," I answered back, still just looking at her.
"Let us make sure that doesn't happen. Shall we?" The Chancellor asked rhetorically as his body swiftly moved along. I, however, stayed in place, my eyes still wandering over the two of them. I knew she felt my presence, but she didn't move her body one single bit towards mine.
