《Forbidden Love || Anakin x Reader》Chapter 103: Conflicted

Arriving on Coruscant, we were greeted by Master Yoda. A face I hadn't seen so close in such a long time. Nevertheless, it was always a delight to be close to such a wise Jedi.

"Master Yoda," I commented as the ends of my mouth formed a smile.

"We weren't expecting such a formal welcome, Master." Anakin also voiced. It was rare, expected on any other special occasion, but there was nothing special about arriving this time.

"A personal request of the Chancellor's, my escorting you was, Senator. Adventures have you had on Scipio, hmm?" Yoda responded. His eyes peered to the back, noticing Clovis in the back.I gasped, completely forgetting he was even there. "Uh yes, Master Yoda, this is Rush Clovis. Have you met him?" I asked. A slight nod came from his tiny head, "Met, we have, yes." He confirmed. "Intrigued we are, by your return to Coruscant. Much distrust is focused upon you." Master Yoda added.

Clovis's eyes widened, surprised by the news. However, how could he be? News of what he had done in the past went everywhere.

"I understand, but I hope to right the wrong that I have done." Clovis quietly whispered, but just enough to make it be heard. His eyes found themselves attached to the ground we were standing on. Perhaps, he was too afraid to look Master Yoda in the eyes, ashamed of his past actions.

"Delay, we must not." Yoda finally conveyed. His eyes still had a bright spot, a light he had for anyone despite the horrific events they might have made. We followed the small Jedi leading up directly to the Chancellor's office.

It seemed that every Senator posted in Coruscant had made the meeting. There were a couple I knew, like Senator Organa. The closest person I had to the Senate. He seemed to support and acknowledge the significants of the war and what must happen to end the war peacefully.

Clovis again gave his long informational speech, claiming that the bank had no money. And yet not to my surprise, not a single person believed his word. They rolled his eyes whenever he finished any sentence.

"Excuse me if I find it hard to trust you, Clovis." Senator Organa began. He made his way towards the Chancellor's desk, his eyes not peeling back from Clovis's. "You used to sit on this very Senate even as you funneled credits into the droid foundries of Count Dooku," Organa added harshly. My eyes closed at the last part.

My relationship with Count Dooku haunted my past. The horrors and pain I had been placed in while in his custody never seemed to leave my thoughts. It was as if he crept in every single core memory on Tatooine.

"I understand all of your trepidation, but there is corruption in the banks," Clovis argued. I opened my eyes back up to find his eyes looking precisely in my direction. God, why couldn't he place his green eyes somewhere else rather than lay upon mine?

It was as if he knew looking at me would somehow make me more vulnerable; it didn't. It found me rather annoyed.

"And once we find this corruption?" Organa asked. His eyebrows raised.

"I believe the ones responsible should be ousted from control before the entire banking infrastructure collapses," he argued. His voice stuttered a little; he was nervous.

"Oh, and I suppose you're the man to do it," Anakin replied. I looked upwards, seeing as he stood right next to my shoulder. He has his arms folded in and his chin slightly clenched.

"I only want the Banking Clan to be what it once was, a fair system of trade and commerce. I came here to root out the criminals and reveal the truth behind what is happening." he began his speech. I found this all rather boring. Blah blah blah.

"Now, now." The Chancellor finally spoke up. He was sitting in his office chair, watching the hassle unfold before him. "We are grateful that you have brought us this information, but what exactly can you prove?" He added; he asked softly and calmly, yet stern and intimidating.

"These files show that huge funds have been diverted out of the banks and into what I believe are private accounts." He laid the file onto the Chancellor's desk and pulled up what we both saw before the Clan members took me into custody.

"And the veracity of this information?" Senator Organa asked.

"I was the one who downloaded the files from the Muuns' secure mainframe," I spoke up. Every eye landed on my body. "I believe that what Clovis is saying is correct," I added.

I trusted my gut feeling; Clovis wouldn't out himself if he wasn't telling the truth.

"Then, Senator Amidala, I would like you to spearhead this investigation. Work closely with Rush Clovis, and find and expose these secret accounts." The Chancellor requested.

"Once we know exactly what we are dealing with, then we can decide how best to handle this... situation," he added, standing up from his chair and making a large smile form onto his face.

He walked near the door entrance implying the meeting had ended, but I knew my session had not finished. We all gathered and headed towards the exit, following the Chancellor's footsteps. Anakin slowly came to a stop pulling my body back from the group and placing me into a small corner of the lobby.

"Why didn't you just say no?" He whispered, still holding onto my arm, preventing me from moving.

"Say no? Why would I say no?" I asked back in a whisper. I looked back to the group, seeing them walk a farther distance.

"I don't want you working with Clovis." He answered. His voice is still harsh and low. His body moved closer to mine, but still keeping his distance in case anyone looked back.

"You don't want me working with him?" I asked, my brows furrowing themselves.

"A serpent can shed its skin, but it is still a serpent," he argued.

I rolled my eyes, "well, you're just going to have to trust my judgment here." I turned around, dismissing any more foul arguments he would set upon us again. His gloved hand touched my shoulder once more, stopping me in my tracks.

"Like the last time, hmm? When you almost ended up dead? Or how about you just getting arrested, and it was me who had to bail you out? Or how about--" Anakin had a whole list that seemed to bring out my anger. It was as if he doubted my capabilities.

"The Chancellor has asked me to do this, Anakin," I responded calmly. It wasn't the right time to lash out and make a mess out of the situation. Anyone nearby could hear the loud screaming between the both of us.

"But I'm asking you to say no. As your husband, I demand that you tell the Chancellor you are stepping down." He turned his back around harshly.

I was rather taken back. "Demand? We've been over this before. I'm not stupid enough to allow myself to be deceived twice, Anakin. My only intentions are to defend the republic." I replied, but he didn't dare turn his back around. His body was still as tense as when he bailed me out.

My throat became a burning fuel, "If you can't trust me--" I began but quickly was interrupted. "Uh, excuse the interruption. Y/n, shall we begin?" Clovis asked.

I turned around facing the green-eyed boy, and quickly shook off any feelings building up. "Yes, of course," I replied, forcing a smile that wasn't real.

Clovis began to walk towards the exit, and I followed behind, but my heart felt heavy. Looking back at Anakin's face, he was hurt, but I was more.

Anakin's POV

After the end of our small argument, I turned off all the intercoms. I didn't want to be bothered. Instead, I found myself in my small room, away from our home. My mind ran to the most profound and darkest parts of my head.

But, building and fixing were the only things that kept my mind off of her, though that was entirely impossible. She was on my mind every second of the day.

"I have been looking for you." Obi-Wan walked in, leaning his arm onto my dresser that was covered in dust. This whole room wasn't in use, the window blinds were covered in dust, and my bed seemed like no one had sat or laid on it for quite a while.

I huffed, "something wrong?" I asked, still messing around with the wires of the droid I was fixing. I didn't dare look up into Obi-wan's eyes; he somehow figured out everything with one look.

"You tell me." He responded. He picked up a nearby helmet, inspecting the curvature and meanwhile building up his confidence to say what he thought was genuinely wrong.

"Not that I'm aware." I played it off, placing my tools back onto the table. I leaned my body against the desk, acting my part.

Obi-Wan let out a slight sigh, "Master Yoda feels that your judgments cornering Rush Clovis are clouded." He voiced. And there it was, the beginning of our conversation against no one other than Clovis. Yes, even as I managed to stay far away from him, he is still around.

"Mm, I believe he can't be trusted," I responded as vaguely as possible. Hiding the fact that there was something more that bothered me.

"Yes, but there is more, isn't there?" he pried. I looked onto the dust-covered desk picking up my wrench.

"I sense a deep anger in you by simply saying his name," he added. I dropped the tool back down quickly, "He almost got Senator Amidala killed, and I would have been responsible." Before knowing this was precisely what Obi-Wan wanted. He found a way to get inside and know the answers.

I walked to the other side of the room, hoping this conversation would end.

"The Senator has risked her life many times. Not to mention her history as a Jedi. She's quite capable of taking care of herself." Obi-Wan said. A spark of annoyance came underneath my skin. "They had a relationship...." I sighed, "once." I felt stupid. To be jealous, even though she picked me.

I was her husband, after all, but I couldn't help but wonder. She became a Senator in a matter of seconds. Perhaps she got bored of being a Jedi and became more interested in politics in Clovis."I simply feel she is vulnerable to her emotions." I picked up my old toy ship messing around with the old screws.

"She is... or you?" he asked. His eyes squinted, focusing on mine.

I swallowed thickly, "What are you implying?' I asked.

"Anakin, I understand to a degree what is going on." He began; he sat at the end of the bed, letting out a deep breath. "You've met Satine. You know I once harbored feelings for her. It's not that we're not allowed to have these feelings. It's natural." He added. Quickly annoyed, I found myself standing up from my bed.

"Senator Amidala and I are simply friends," I replied. I placed my toy ship back onto the ground. "And friends, you must remain. As a Jedi, it is essential you make the right choice, Anakin, for the Order." He acknowledged once again. My teeth became gritted, "I understand my responsibilities." I stood up, walking back to my tools. It seemed I was going in a loop.

"Responsibilities that must be observed whatever relationship develops between Clovis and Senator Amidala." Obi-wan continued. My eyes rolled in dissatisfaction. There would be no relationship that would develop. She was mine, not hers.

"They have no relationship." I seethed through gritted teeth. Obi-Wan's eyes found themselves locked onto mine, surprised by the anger I had built up. "It is simply business between them," I added, de-escalating my emotions though it was hard to do.

"Then we should have no problems, should we?" Obi-Wan asked rhetorically. He stood up and walked right of the door, leaving me again in my thoughts.
