"Y/n?"
"Hmm?" Whatever you were laying on vibrated, it was probably Anakin. Hopefully it was Anakin.
"Y/n, you need to wake up." His voice was soft but he sounded distressed.
"Whyyy?" You groaned and finally opened your eyes. He was still laying down but he was looking at you with depressed eyes. "What happened?" You asked sitting up a bit.
"It's my mother."
Oh.
"Ok, I'm up." You sat up entirely, untangling your limbs from Anakin's. You set with you legs bent and arms on your knees. You leaned your head on your arms still trying to wake up when you felt the bed move. It wasn't supposed to happen this quickly, you were supposed to have more time. You needed more time. You felt a hand caress the back of your head and you looked up.
"I'm sorry." Anakin apologized in a very soft voice, you reached you and touched his face.
"No, no, it's okay. I just wish we had more time. But, what are we going to do about Padme?" She was the mission after all.
"I thought you would stay here with her." He muttered, moving his hand to yours that was resting on his face.
"No, I won't stay here." You responded stubbornly.
"Y/n." He sighed and his head fell.
"Look at me, Anakin." He brought his head slightly, "If you get hurt there, I could never forgive myself." He just nodded and avoided your gaze again. "I will come with you, and I guess Padme will too."
"Ok." You would never know how he was really feeling, you wouldn't understand. You never had real family, only the one you had found. All you could do was comfort him the best you could. So you placed your forehead on his and held his hands.
"I will always be here for you. Anytime you need me, I'm here. You don't ever have to be sorry." You could feel his mood change in a positive way, but the distress was still there. "Let's go get Padme." You took your head off of his and smiled at him, he returned it. Climbing up from the bed, you threw anything that was yours into your suitcase. Including your book that you stole from a forbidden room. You were still surprised Anakin knew about it, after all you had stolen it before he came to the temple.
You just arrived at the temple less then a week ago. You were four years old and curious, deadly curious. Little you was mad about something and was thinking of a bomb. Not blowing up a bomb, but a bomb that had gone off. You still had the stitches on your arm. You walked to a door where Master Yoda had guided you away from. On your first day here you were given a tour and this room was one of the only places you were told to stay away from. You could feel the pain radiating off of it so, naturally, you pressed the button that opened it.
Surprisingly, it opened and only with a little struggle. It stopped halfway through opening, but you slipped through. It was freakishly dark but you saw curtains on the wall. You walked over, jumped up, and opened them, basking in the light. Then you turned around to the newly found room. You jumped off of the bed you had kneeled on and a dust cloud appeared, most likely for the second time. Something caught your eye under the pillow, the light shone on the end of it.

It had brown leather wrapped around about an inch of papers. You tried to read the front but it was dusty. When you blew it off, all you the read was 'The', 'of', and 'Jedi'. You tucked it in your little robe pocket and walked out of the room. After you got the door closed by pushing it, you walked down the hall to find Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. You just smiled and waved then continued to walk past them.
Almost a year later you would some to find that the book had been missing for far longer. It had been stolen by an old padawan, whose name no one spoke of. You're not sure how they knew he had it, but never found it. Even though you found it almost as soon as you entered the room. All you new was you were drawn to this book, through something bigger than yourself.
When you picked up the book and the memories came flooding back, one thing stood out. You didn't remember the bomb as well, you remembered it happened though. You remembered something blowing up and slashing your arm, and then Master Yoda must've found you. There was still a small scar on your arm, but the details escaped your mind.
"Y/n? Are you alright?" Anakin was standing at the door about to leave when your thoughts snapped back.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. Just old ghosts." You gave him a smile and his cue to leave. Quickly, you changed and took your hair out of a braid. You tied it up in a pony tail and wore some of your jedi robes. You had found your wrist comSince you had never been to Tatooine, you didn't know exactly what it was like. But Anakin always said that it was miserable. After you finished, you set your bag by the door of your temporary room. Then you found Anakin in the hallway with his.
"Do you want me to go first?" He asked, referring to walking into the kitchen and seeing Padme.
"Sure, thanks."
You knew it would be hard for him to tell Padme that they were leaving. She deserves an explanation, but at what cost? After about two minutes, you walked in as well. You found Padme with the concerned maternal eyebrows and Anakin with a begging expression.
"I'll explain it all on the way, but right now we just need to go."
"How long will we be there?"
"I don't know exactly, but we can come back here soon." He smiled and she nodded then left the room. You walked up behind Anakin and placed your hand on his back. He jumped and it shattered your heart.
"I'm sorry."
"It's fine, you just walk so quietly." He chuckled to disguise his pain. He grabbed your hand with both of his, the temperatures creating a sensation. His hands were cold as ice while yours were warm in the sun. He always had cold hands, but the temperature of your changed often.
"What are we going to do when we get to Tatooine?" Anakin flinched at the mention of his old home.
"I-" He paused, "I really don't know."
You could see tears starting to form in his eyes as he looked up at the ceiling. You grabbed his hands and he looked at you.
"That's okay, Anakin. This is different than all our other missions, but it is a mission nonetheless. I will be there every step of the way." He gave you a tight lipped smile and you returned it.

"I love you." He whispered, getting closer to you. Your heart rate climbed up the same mountain it did every time he was near you. "I've loved you ever since I met you."
"What?"
"You didn't know?" He chuckled, you had no clue that he liked you when you were younglings.
"No, no of course I didn't. I thought we were just good friends."
"Well, that is what we were since you didn't love me back."
"I probably would have if you had told me before you left!" He chuckled at you again, but it all made since now. When he glared at others that you brought to hang out. Or how he stayed close to you all the time.
"It was so obvious, I'm pretty sure both of our masters knew."
"My master knew?" The thought of Master Kio made your heart sink.
"I think so, she always tried to keep me away from you." You chuckled with him now, she would do that. She was always so protective of you, and it broke her heart when you fought. Master Kio was also one of the most beautiful people you had ever seen. Her dark, hickory skin was flawless and her midnight curls were wild atop a calmed mind. She wore simple buttermilk and cinnamon robes with a green lightsaber, similar to yours. She was the closest thing you had to a mother and you needed to make up with her.
The sound of a door opening made you jump backwards. Anakin just smirked at you like every other time you did that. "Are you ready to go, Padme?" His voice had dropped again since he was brought back to reality.
"Yes, I believe so." She had a large over the shoulder bag. Anakin left the room to grab both of your suitcases as you stood there with Padme. "Is he going to be alright?"
"He will be, eventually." Actually, you weren't sure. You had never been in a situation like this because you didn't have attachments before becoming a jedi. To distract yourself, you started to play with your thumbs while standing by the door. Padme had walked over to you but she was staring out the window. You weren't sure how you were going to get to Tatooine, but Anakin most likely had a plan.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anakin had came back with the suitcases and you all had gotten on to a ship. Anakin hadn't been talking so you hadn't been asking questions. He piloted the ship while Padme did something in the back. You sat in the co-pilot seat and had closed your eyes.
"Y/n?" Anakin asked softly to which you opened your eyes and looked over at him.
"What's up?"
"Do you think she will still be alive when we get there?"
"We can hope," You paused trying to find the words, "I don't have a good answer for you, I wish I did. But I don't have nightmares the same as you do." He sighed.
"But you dream, don't you?"
"Yeah, but they don't make sense. I rarely know the people in them and someone's always hurt. I don't even know who's hurt, there's just pain."
He looked over to you now that you were in hyperspace. You could tell he had been biting at his lip and you had never seen him so stressed. It made sense though, you could guess that if someone you loved was hurt you would be stressed to. Just the thought of Anakin getting hurt on this mission made your whole world do flips. He looked away and so did you, closing your eyes again.
"We're almost there."
You opened your eyes again, still tired, and looked over at him. His eyes were red and puffy, you could tell he had been crying. When he noticed you were looking at him, he wiped his cheek and looked away. You stood up since there should still be time before you land.
"Anakin?"
"Yeah?" His voice was weak and breaking.
"Come here." You were standing behind his seat as he heaved himself up. He walked over to you, eyes still red. When he got almost a foot in front of you, you stood on your toes and wrapped your arms around his neck. You placed your foreheads together once he leaned down slightly.
"We will all be fine. Just focus on your mother, I'll take care of everything else."
He nodded and you kissed him on the lips. His hands had wrapped around your waist. You wanted to stay like this forever, but you couldn't so you sank back down to your feet. Breaking the kiss you stepped back.
"I need to go tell Padme we're close."
He looked disappointed but you left and he watched you walk out. You found Padme sitting on the bed in the back. She looked stressed and you had totally forgotten that she had no clue where we were going. She looked up when you knocked on the doorframe and gave you a half smile.
"Hey Padme, I'm guessing you're going to want an explanation." She just nodded and you sat down next to her. "Anakin's been having nightmares ever since we were younglings but recently they've been worse. They're about his mother and the pain she is in. Anakin hasn't seen her since he left Tatooine when he was nine, when he met you. So he feels guilt about the whole situation."
"Oh, that's terrible." Is all Padme could manage while taking in all this new information.
You gave her a small smile, "I'll be in the cockpit if you need me, we should be landing it a little bit." She returned the smile as you left and walked back towards Anakin.
Anakin was back in his seat and you could see the planet out the front. At the moment it was only a little bigger than your head, but it was rapidly growing. You sat down, knowing Anakin's piloting style. He was an amazing pilot, but tended to be incredibly reckless on landings. You had forgotten to tell Padme to stay seated and you hoped that she had. Anakin slowly lowered the ship onto the sandy terrain. You could see the pain in his eyes as he stared at the rough sand he once knew.
He stood up quickly and started walking back towards where Padme was. You were worried about him, the way he was going. He would probably do something he would regret if you let him go on like this. Anyway, you sighed and rubbed your face, bringing yourself back to reality. You got up and walked towards the door where you would exit the ship. Waiting there for Anakin and Padme, you watched as the sand blew in the breeze. You didn't see how Anakin could hate the sand so much, but with his past you wouldn't deny that he had reasoning. He had told you a lot about it but it was all from when he had nightmares. The big alien guy that owned him and his mother, pod-racing and getting beat in his young age. Kids from around the area laughing at his ambitions, because of all this he was who he was.
Anakin walked over with Padme close behind, she looked just as worried about him as you were. "You ready?" You asked to Anakin who was staring out the window.
"Always."
You opened the door and went out first, Anakin behind you and Padme last. As soon as you stepped foot into the sand, you understood Anakin's dislike much more. The harsh wind through sand in your face and laughed at you. Leaving your cheeks red and splotchy. You stopped and glanced back at Anakin who kept on walking, then you stood next to Padme. She was the mission, you had to keep her safe throughout this experience. She glanced at you and then began to walk after Anakin, he was now a few yards ahead. You hurried up and trailed behind her, pulling your hood up over you face.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The walk was long and merciless, but your understanding of Anakin's childhood grew with every step. When you finally arrived at what looked like a village, you realized why Anakin couldn't park the ship any closer. They were scavengers, poor citizens who would do anything for money. Anakin was once one of them, even though he was a slave with a master who made him work nonstop. Anakin got to some carriage on the border of the city and talked to the man in a different language. It was amazing that he was still some what fluent in huttese even after so many years not having a conversation in it.
He looked back at you and Padme and gave a small smile. He helped Padme get into the covered carriage, and gave his hand out to you as well. You took it but didn't really use his hand for anything other then comfort. When you got into the carriage, Anakin followed you in, still having a hood on your hand. When you both sat down it became to obvious and you had to let go. Although, Padme still looked at you with the look.
The carriage ride was short and the reason you may have taken it was so Anakin didn't have to see all the landmarks of his childhood. You could empathize with him though, this seemed like a horrible place to grow up. When the carriage came to an abrupt stop, Anakin hopped out quickly and helped Padme down a second later. He did the same for you but squeezed your hand.
I'll be alright.
I'm counting on it.
You were counting on it, you needed him more than you cared to admit. Anakin paid the alien with the carriage and he drove away speedily. Anakin walked up to where you had stopped, after you had a few seconds to observe it. The building was run down with paint chipping off the sand-stone walls. There were machines and parts cluttering every part of the floor and shelves. There was a alien man out front, he matched the description of Anakin's nightmares except for one component. He wasn't tall, he was actually quite small, you were expecting him to be the same height as Anakin now, but that obviously wasn't the case. Anyway, he had a large nose and was a deep shade of blue.
"I'm here for my mother." Anakin grumbled abruptly.
"What?" The alien made some strange noises before Anakin repeated his statement.
"I'm here for my mother. Where is she?"
"Who even- Ani? Little Ani?" Anakin nodded and the ugly alien glanced at you. You were standing right next to Anakin and Padme was behind you in her blue robe.
"Where is she?"
"Oh, um, your mother, well" He paused, this wasn't going to end well, "I, uh, sold her."
Anakin's expression dropped.
"You know how business works, Ani! But I heard the man freed her and married her!" Anakin's expression changed again, but this time it was one of confusion.
"Who?"
"I think his name is, uh, Owen, yeah, yeah, Owen Lars."
"Where?" Anakin was so stern with his questions that they didn't even sound like questions.
"I don't know, somewhere far, far out there."
"I need a location."
"I bet I have the paperwork somewhere in here, follow me." He looked at you again, his gaze made your skin crawl. But then Anakin looked at you and you felt normal again. You tilted your head towards where the alien went and Anakin nodded. He followed the thing in while you turned back to Padme to give her the signal.
Someone in the corner caught your eye though, a mandalorian, in full mandalorian armor. Weapons coated their belt as they stared you down. You couldn't even see their eyes but their gaze was harsh. The person walked away almost as soon as you saw them and you grabbed Padmes arm. She shouldn't be here, it was a mistake to bring her. She could get seriously hurt, or worse.
