《Out-Flirt Me - Anakin x Reader》Chapter 8- Taking care of others

Padme had came back out in a different outfit. This wasn't the first time she made an impromptu wardrobe change, but it was still funny to you. You, who wore different versions of the same outfit everyday.
The evening went smoothly, chatting, then dinner, then bed. You and Anakin actually had different rooms this time. This may be because Padme couldn't get away with it a second time. Your room was stunning, like everything, with a view out onto the beach. You had taken off your poncho and changed into sleepwear.
You unpacked your book, that you forgot was in an old robe. And unpacked a few of your less 'jedi-y' apparel choices. Then you stood on the balcony, just taking in the ocean air. When you finished, it was late, so you went to bed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You woke up about three am from some disturbance in the force. You couldn't quite place it, but it felt like danger with a little safety. You pulled a robe on over your pajamas. The feeling contradicted itself over and over as you waked towards where it came from. You found a troubled Anakin staring out a kitchen window.
His arms were dangling by his side and he didn't look fully conscious. But every once in a while, his head would shake as if shaking a bad thought away. You walked slowly towards him, hoping not to scare him in his fragile state. You'd never seen him like this before.
When you got close enough to put your hand on his shoulder his head darted around. He looked angry at first and then curious. His eyes studied your features as if everything was new. It was making you a bit self conscious because maybe he didn't like what he sees.
As if he heard what you said his head flung back towards the window. He was staring at the dark sky erupting from the mountains. You reached your hand up to his shoulder and in a soft voice, you whispered.
"Anakin?" Your voice was barely audible but he slowly looked back at you. Now your hand was on his shoulder and he stared at it.
"What's wrong?" At first you wanted to ask if he was alright, but that clearly wasn't the case. He continued Ed to stare at your hand for a moment before responding.
"Nothing, go back to sleep. I didn't mean to wake you." It sounded a bit harsh.
"It's fine, I just want to talk" When he didn't answer, you decided to dive a bit deeper. You couldn't help him if you didn't know anything.
"Are the nightmares back?" He gave a nod so small you would've missed it if you weren't intently watching his face.
"Who are they about?"
When you were kids he used to have these about everyone. They say jedi don't dream but you both did. Yours were about happier times, his about pain. They always seemed to come true.
He just looked at you with so much pain. His blue eyes, no longer oceans, but tears. His beautiful smile, no longer joyous, but pained. You knew who it was, it had to be.
"What's happened?"
"She will die, and it will be painful," His features contorted as he spoke, you could feel his pain and it hurt, "She will scream and yell, but no one will hear her."
"How long do we have?"
"A week."
This wasn't how long until she was dead, but how long until you had to leave. You had no answer, no way to cure his pain. But you had a hug. Once you walked in front of him, he didn't meet your gaze. You wrapped your arms around his neck and tucked your face into the side. He didn't react for a few moments, but eventually wrapped his arms around your waist. Then he rested his head on your shoulder.
You could feel his eyes close and his mind relax a bit. Anakin would try to forget for the week, he always tried. But he wouldn't, it would be there constantly reminding him of what would happen.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anakin and you stayed in the hug for a long while before you decided that you should get him to bed. It was probably past three thirty, and you had no clue how long Anakin had been up. Once you broke apart you just stared at his eyes. They weren't as painful as they were, now they were filling with something else. Admiration? Friendship? You may never know but at least he didn't seem to be in as much pain.
"You should get to bed." He looked at you a bit confused.
"You should too." He was right, you should sleep. But you weren't the one with nightmares. You weren't the one who was in pain. You weren't the one who needed to be taken care of.
"Stop."
"What?" Why'd he say stop? You weren't doing anything. You didn't say- oh.
"Stop thinking that you have to put others before yourself." He explained firmly, to which you had started fidgeting with your fingers. You wore rings sometimes, you should really wear them more often. Fun to play with.
"Hey, listen to me." You looked back up. You had been letting your mind run on purpose. This wasn't something you liked talking about, you hated people trying to fix you. You would never be fixed.
"I'm not trying- y/n. Why can't you just see yourself the way I do?" This was a rhetorical question but you felt the need to answer. Even though you had nothing to say. Still, you were curious.
"How do you see me?" It was the first time you talked in a bit and he almost was taken back. At least, you thought it was because you had started talking again.
"Ummm, well." He scratched the back of his neck and looked up.
"Come on, you just need to get to bed. We can talk in the morning." You smiled at him, hoping to lighten the mood. He just gave a tight lipped smile and you started walking.
Once you made it back to his room, he walked in. You waited at the door, not entirely sure what would happen if you went in. You were still fidgeting, subconsciously. He gazed back at you, wondering why you had stopped there.
"I think I should head to bed, too."
"Oh, ok. Good night." He looked like he had something else to say, but you didn't want to push. Instead you did the one thing that you literally just told yourself not to do. You walked into his room and hugged him. It was the same position as earlier but this time he stepped towards you. He grabbed your waist at the same time you grabbed his neck. You knew he really needed these interactions, but you were starting to think you did too.
His soft breathing was audible in the silent room. It was shaky, like the wind blowing at a tree. He was holding you so tight it must've hurt, but you couldn't feel a thing. Except his heartbeat and yours synced up. You had missed holding another person and caring about them.
On missions you were always the decoy, so you pretended to be interested in guys. But really they all made you want to throw up. You assumed it was because you thought they were ugly or because they were all atrocious people. It may have really been that you missed Anakin, and no one could make up for that.

"Thanks." His words, barely above a whisper, broke you out of your thoughts.
"What?" You didn't know why he would thank you, you didn't do anything.
"You did do something, you helped me. You brought me back to reality. So thanks." This almost brought tears to your eyes. You never saw him like this, always confidence oozing everywhere. But this side of him was soft and it made you feel safe that he was able to share his feelings with you.
"No problem," You responded, breaking the hug. "Good night." You stepped back out towards the door.
"Yeah, good night." He smiled, a real smile. You really had helped him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You had made it back to your room that night, thinking only about Anakin. It brought you so much pain seeing him hurt, but not just sympathy. You could feel it in the force. The jedi never talked about this, they didn't say what happens when your close to someone. They try to prevent it in any way they can. But here you are.
Every time he felt something, you felt it to. Over those years when he was gone, you got sudden shocks of emotion. They didn't relate to your situation so you thought there was so thing wrong with you. There probably was, but maybe it wasn't your feelings. They could've been Anakin's, disguised as surprise.
When you had woken up, he was still on your mind. You hadn't dreamt that night which wasn't unusual. Anyway, you decided to get ready for the day without knowing what time it was. Choosing a pastel blue dresses wasn't hard, as you constantly saw the sky matching it. It was one of your only light colored dresses you had kept from missions. Most of them were weird, but this one was pretty.
It had a halter top neck with white lace and little white flowers all over. The dress swooshed when you moved which made it fun to wear. The back went down to your almost lower back with a little lace. You were a little upset that it showed the wrap on your right calf, but there wasn't anything you could do. You changed the bandage and cleaned it, which hurt like a bitch.
Once you were done and had put your hair in a loose over-the-shoulder braid, you stepped outside of the guest room. You realized you forgot your lightsaber and went back in. There was pockets, which you completely forgot about since you hadn't worn this dress in forever. You shoved your lightsaber in your dominate hand side and your book in the other.
Now you were ready, you found Anakin and Padme in the kitchen. Padme was sitting by the open doors to the patio with some kind of news. She looked sophisticated, like always. Anakin on the other hand, was slouched sitting on the kitchen island. He had some kind of fruit in his hand and took bites while staring out the same window he had last night.
You started walking over to him and he sensed you. Walking silently was something you were trained to do since you were young, and now it was a habit. He glanced in your direction, then back at the window, then back at you. You were stumped for a minute, but then you saw him staring at your dress.
Totally forgetting that you had probably never worn a dress around him. On the other hand you both only ever wore your robes, so anything different caused the other to be stunned. You still thought his reaction was hilarious and started to laugh. He hadn't even realized your injury yet.
Padme looked up from her holo-pad, that was projecting two people sitting talking about something. Then she smiled on of her elated smiles.
"Y/n, good morning." You realized she hadn't known you for that long and wearing something other than robes wasn't shocking.
"Good morning, how are you?" You smiled at her and glanced back at Anakin who was still gaping.
"I'm doing great," She smirked at Anakin and then at you, "how did you sleep?"
"Great. The bed was really nice." You didn't really want to tell her about what happened. You weren't entirely sure Anakin even wanted you to know, so you kept to yourself.
Anakin finally got his jaw of the floor and just stared at you confused.
"You have other clothes then your robes?" You had forgotten that other jedi weren't always dressing up to be the prostitute. But it was still funny to you how shocked he was.
"Yeah, this is what I get in return for always being the decoy." Telling him that the jedi made you hang out with men twice your age all the time, probably wasn't the best.
"You play the decoy?" Padme questioned, she was a senator who liked to learn.
"Most of the time. I'm more sly than most of the jedi I usually work with so they can stick me places. And get me out easily, because people don't always notice the short, innocent-looking girl. Plus it's a big shocker when we get into aggressive negotiations." This was the best explanation you could think of right now, because it wasn't a full out lie.
"Aggressive Negotiations?"
"Fighting. Yeah, just fighting."
Anakin was staring at you, but it was another different look. He knew you were lying about the whole decoy thing, but he didn't know why. He would ask you later, you knew it.
You walked towards the kitchen island where he was sitting. Grabbing an apple and sitting on the counter with him. Apples were a bit different on each planet, this one was almost golden. With red tips and freckles.
He finally looked away from you and looked out the window again. Padme turned on her holo-pad, it started right where she left off. You and Anakin had both started eating, and you just gazed around the room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The morning went smoothly, after you and Anakin were done eating, you just waited for Padme. She soon finished her news intake for the morning and had asked if you would like to go outside. Anakin responded for the both of you, and you walked outside.
You were standing on the edge of the deck, Padme sitting, and Anakin walking. He had walked to one end and then another, not quite pacing but always on the move.
"What are you doing?" You asked after Anakin had been walking for at least twenty minutes. Padme had laid back on her chair and closed her eyes, but she wasn't asleep.
"What?" He finally stopped.
"Why do you keep walking back and forth?" In your mind you would've asked this extremely harshly, but it didn't come out the way.
"I'm keeping an eye out." He explained as if it was self explanatory.
You just turned back around and let him do whatever. It was the mission to keep and eye out, after all. He walked up next to you and leaned on the railing, exactly like you.
Am I bothering you?
He asked through the force, startling you a bit.
No. You're fine.
He wasn't quite bothering you, you just were confused why he was strutting back and forth.
I know I'm fine, but what about you?
What?
What?
You glared at him, trying to figure out what he was doing.
It was a perfectly good question wasn't it?
No, it wasn't. Go back to doing whatever you were doing.
According to you, I was strutting.
You sighed mentally, he truly exhausted you.
So, do you like watching me walk?
What?
A stupid question, really stupid.
I think you do, but you'd never admit it.
Then he smiled and walked away.
Of course you didn't like watching him walk, that's stupid. But that's not your problem, your problem is that he thinks you do. So if he thinks you do then maybe you do? What? No, no, no, no.
Anakin caught you eye, smirking at you from the far left side of the deck. Your cheeks were already warm, and you felt like you needed to curl up in a corner. You hated the things he did to you, it was cruel.
All he needed was a few words and bam. You were flustered all over again.
Baby, I don't need words.
You squinted as you realized he was listening to your thoughts. Your eyes widened as you realized what he said.
He chuckled from the other side, oh you'd get him back for this.
On the other hand, Padme opened her eyes and looked between the two of you. Your not entirely sure she knows you can speak through the force. So to her your interactions would be weird. Not that they weren't anyway.
She glanced out into a yard beyond the deck.
"Do you two want to go on a picnic?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You were so excited for the picnic, you had never been on one. On missions you had seen people out sitting on the grass, eating, but you never really knew why. Until your master explained to you in an unemotional way. She said something like, "They want to eat in the grass and get all itchy and then go back inside." Which was not at all what it seemed like to you.
Anakin packed some food and utensils in a basket. You grabbed the blanket, and Padme changed her clothes. She was wearing a pastel pink and yellow and orange dress. But it had been a couple hours and she was sick of that now.
When she returned, everyone set off for the yard. It was probably a twenty minute walk there. So you all had time to talk, even though that seems like all Anakin's been doing the entire trip.
"Have you two enjoyed the lake country so far?" Padme asked when you got about seven minutes out.
"Yeah, it's been really nice." Anakin responded, and you agreed so you just kept quiet.
"That's great. I know you've only been here for a little while, but I don't know when we'll be leaving. So I want you both to be as comfortable as possible." She was right about not knowing when we will leave each other, but not about leaving the planet.
Anakin just nodded and continued to be smiling every time you looked at him. You just wanted him to be all right. Another couple minutes out and Anakin was telling Padme about a mission he had a couple months ago. She seemed to be interested in all the things that seemed normal to you. But that went both ways, since everything she did was fascinating to you.
Everyone was almost to the spot where Padme had picked. And you knew since Anakin kept asking if we were there yet. She finally responded with,
"Almost." An annoyed tone clear in her voice. You were annoyed to, he was annoying. Better to stay that way then to think he's nice.
He just smirked as if he had accomplished something, he didn't.
When you made it there, Padme just stopped abruptly. Anakin and you almost kept walking, she had stopped as fast as a speeder crashing. Then you both looked back and she just smiled.
You laid out the blanket and Anakin set down the basket. Padme laid on her side and Anakin sat down on the other side of the basket. You sat behind it with your legs to the side. Anakin opened up the basket and started pulling things out.
He was handing a bunch of stuff to you and you started to laugh. You were almost juggling all the containers he was handing you. Padme laughed as well but Anakin kept going. He stopped handing things to you and started setting things on the blanket.
You caught a glimpse of the smile on his face. He enjoyed making you laugh, not as much as he enjoyed making you flustered though. You knew that for a fact.
When he was done spreading things out and you had set down everything he gave to you. Everyone started popping the tops of the containers. There were probably twenty hand-sized dishes with various fruits, desserts, and small foods.
"So," Anakin started, "Dig noleeya"
(Dig in, in huttese)
