《Solangelo oneshots》To Solangelo

"You know those split second decision that can change your life? A moment where you have to choose quickly, because otherwise your chances are gone? When I came across this moment in high school, I figured out something about my best friend I didn't know and it changed my life.

Being best friends with the hottest, most popular and sweetest person in the school, has its perks. Will Solace, the golden haired angel. My best friend. Maybe, even, my soon to be boyfriend.

We were sitting at our regular lunch table. A girl with her skirt pulled up high and her top pulled low, approached us. Or rather Will. Her lips looked sticky and pink from the enormous amount of lip-gloss she had applied. "Will, I was wondering, if you'd want to go to prom with me. I mean, I heard you turned down Kelsey yesterday, but really you wouldn't want to be seen with her." She batted her lashes a few times and leaned a little closer to Will.

"Kelsey is quite nice, but I already have a date for prom. That's what I told everyone who has asked me because it's the truth. So, sorry but I'm taken Drew."

Will always told everyone that he was taken. When they asked him out, when they wanted to go to prom with him. But if he really was taken, he would've told him. We've been best friends since kindergarten.

"Val, are you awake? I asked if you already have a prom date." The decision. The moment. I opened my mouth and closed it again. A perfect goldfish impression. "I...err...I wanted to ask you. I know you just told Drew that you're taken, but you would've told me if that was true. We're besties for life. You can trust me with any secret." That was my split second decision. The choice to blurt out my thoughts. To tell the truth. During my short ramble I contentiously looked at my salad. It wasn't until Will had stayed silent for almost a full minute, when I looked up.

He was just sitting there. Staring at a bracelet I always thought didn't quite fit with him. It was black and had skulls lining the band. He stroked some words written around the bracelet. Per il mio angelo sole. * he looked back up at me and smiled, but it was a smile from another world. He stood up, suddenly, and sprang on the table. "Will what are..." "Shut up Val, I have to say this. I can't contain it." He looked around the cafeteria and his eyes lingered on a patch of shadow, in the far corner of the room. "HEY, ATTENTION! OVER HERE! I, WILL SOLACE, WANT TO ADMIT SOMETHING. I'VE NEVER TOLD ANYONE THIS, NOT EVEN MY BEST FRIEND. I DON'T HAVE MANY SECRETS FOR THAT MATTER, BUT THIS WAS ONE OF THEM. I'M GAY! I AM A RAINBOW. I EVEN HAVE A BOYFRIEND, AND HE GOES TO THIS SCHOOL. NOW GO, MAKE FUN OF ME. PLAY THE ROLE SOCIETY WANTS YOU TO PLAY. I DON'T CARE. IFTHAT MEANS I CAN KISS MY BOYFRIEND, TAKE HIM TO PROM, THEN GO AHEAD."

The entire cafeteria fell silent. Nobody moved. But Will looked at the same shadow in the corner. It moved. Slowly but surely, a boy in black clothes and black hair emerged. He walked across the room, his eyes plastered on something. On Will. And Will stared back. The boy came closer. I recognised him. He was with me and Will in Greek. We had assigned seats, and I sat next to the raven haired boy. I think his name is Nico.

Will leaped towards Nico and hugged him forcefully. "Neeks!" the raven haired hugged him back and clung to his waist. They walked back to the table. "Hey, I'm Nico. I sit next to you in Greek. You're Valentina right? Will has told me a lot about."

I answered his questions, and we started talking. Turned out Nico and Will had met at a summer camp where Will went every year. It was only until the bell rang that I noticed a yellow bracelet that completely went against Nico's aesthetic. The suns that covered it made it look like something you get from a doctor if you didn't cry. It, too contained some words. Per il mio angelo della morte** later I looked up the meaning of the words. It was a beautiful yet strange sentence.

That is why today I am standing here as the best man of William Solace. On his wedding day. When I decided to tell him the truth about my feelings, I gave him the courage to come out. I don't know what would've happened if I hadn't shared my thoughts, but I am content. I have never seen such love between two people. The way Nico looks at Will, and vice versa, ensures me that they will take care of each other. I am Valentina, best friend of Will Solace, best man of Will Solace and surrogate mother of Bianca Di Angelo-Solace, and I wish them the best in life. Who once was a rainbow, will always be one. To Solangelo!"

It is the best wedding I've ever attended.
