Bella: I heard that you were a host of other program until recently. You are here today as a guest. How do you feel?

Kihyun: I'll hopping on the Find the Melody comfortably... I've always been driving myself so this time so today I will be a customer.

Bella: Every time I ask the question of 'how does it feel to be here in this show', I, as an obvious person, expected the guests to talk about the Find the Melody concept but no one ever did.

Kihyun: Hmm, why just now...? Until now, honestly Monsta X never had a resting period.

Kihyun: We always had a schedule so I had no time to something else. Before Covid-19, we published our album, went to tour, published an album again, went to award ceremony and Japan tour, published an album again, and tour again. That all happened in single year. Living like that, I couldn't make a chance to do a solo.

Bella: It's been a while since I listened to a song with beats placed only in front.

Kihyun: Yes, in the front only.

Bella: The way you sang emphasized the front area and even the drum was stepped on one only. This is a song for you to run definitely.

Kihyun: Yes, everything is placed ahead...

Bella: You must've been so fun doing the performance.

Kihyun: It was so fun.

Bella: I heard that you wrote the lyrics of '.(Comma)', another song in your album.

Kihyun: Since it's my solo album, I wanted to do it and obviously it wasn't easy. I wanted to look cool so I wanted to put words that aren't normally used, like those you can find in dictionary.

(Laugh)

Kihyun: But thinking that way didn't help so I thought comfortably with honest feeling and emotion. After that, making a good joint of words and writing comfortably made a good results.

Bella: That's right. When I also start writing lyrics, I tried to use weird, abnormal words that only emotional poets would use but I just end up making songs like Whistle. Using words we use everyday gets the most empathy.

Kihyun: That's right.

Bella: Of course, my Whistle is a bit of an extreme example

Kihyun: But by doing that, a very unique song comes out.

Bella: That's true. If you were to write lyrics again later, what story would you want to express?

Kihyun: That poetics stuff that I couldn't do...

Bella: Oh, trying it again?

Kihyun: You know that thing that's trending nowadays. Just put up random phrases and say "It was autumn..."

Bella: Ah!

Kihyun: Yea, something like that.

Bella: For example, "It's a lighting. It was autumn..."

Kihyun: Exactly. Something like that. Just putting something like "It was summer.." at the end.

Bella: That would be fun.

Kihyun: It's a bit of a gimmick.

(Laugh)

Bella: Gimmick also has its own taste. Then, if you do solo performance with that theme, what genre would you want to do?

Kihyun: On things that I want to look, I prefer Jazz over rock, hip-hop and ballad.

Bella: That's a true gimmick.

Kihyun: Right, right.

Bella: It's like doing a genre that's not famous with lyrics that won't have empathy but feeling an art.

Kihyun: Combing things that don't make sense to make sense as a whole.

Kihyun: I will at least make one in my album.

Kihyun: After talking it as a gimmick, it's a bit weird to say this but I think jazz is a genre that I'm least comfortable of. However, it made me listen to jazz more. I've listened to this song since long time ago. It's Michael Buble's All of Me.

Kihyun: I'll try my best.

Bella: It's so good. I think it's my first time listening to jazz from others.

Kihyun: It's a pleasure.

Bella: It's my first time seeing someone do jazz while doing the major music. You're a true rocker.

Bella: You really do what you wish to do.

Bella: Many vocalists acknowledge your vocal.

Kihyun: It makes me uncross my legs.

Bella: What do you think is your vocal strengths?

Kihyun: Being able to make different tones? I can fit to dance songs, change my tone more roughly to rock songs, sing smoothly to ballad, and there are also times when I have to sing pretty songs. Being able to adapt is my strength, I think.

Bella: When you play different styles of songs, do you make a difference on your style of singing?

Kihyun: Yes. Completely. I clearly set differences. It's because for example, I can't sing songs like like this with a tone I sing for Monsta X's songs. I really pay attention to my tones. Also, when I record the songs, I imagine. On Monsta X's songs, I sing feeling as if I'm really being cool right now. When I do drama OST songs, I bring emotions from my own happy moments. On soft songs, I think about clouds...

Bella: Thinking about cloud...

Kihyun: Right, right

Bella: That actually happens. When I made a cute song, I imagined about a bichon. It definitely has effects.

Kihyun: When you sing while smiling, there's a difference.

Bella: Whatever style of song you're singing, you have something physically to think of along with your emotion.

Kihyun: When I feel sad, I reduce the lighting, so that I can barely see the lyrics.

Bella: That's cool.

Kihyun: Is it?

Bella: Yes. It means you care a lot from 1 to 100. Not only focusing on your vocal cords. I think many vocalists have to learn that.
