~Fitchburg, Wisconsin~
The Impala was cruising down a country road.
The two brothers were arguing, like usual. The demon sat quietly in the back, listening.
"You probably missed something, that's what."
"Dude, I an LexisNexis, local police reports, newspapers, I couldn't find a single red flag. Are you sure you got the coordinates right?" Sam asked.
"Yeah, I double checked. Its Fitchburg, Wisconsin. Dad wouldn't have sent us coordinates if it wasn't important Sammy."
Sam started to get frustrated. And (M/n) could see why. Dean put too much faith in his father. "Well, I'm telling you I looked and all I could find was a big steamy pile of nothing. If dad's sending us hunting for something, I don't know what."
"Maybe he'll meet us there."
"Yeah. Cause he's been so easy to find up to this point."
"You're a real smart ass you know that? Don't worry, I'm sure there's something in Fitchburg worth killing."
The two kept going at it. Passing a sign that said 'Fitchburg, population 20,501.'
~~~~~~
Sam leaned against the Impala, staring ahead. Dean crosses the road, (M/n) following.
Dean handed his brother a coffee. "Well, the waitress thinks the local freemasons are up to something sneaky, but other than that, no one's heard about anything freaky going on."
"Dean, you got the time?"
He looked at his watch. "Ten after four. Why?"
"What's wrong with this picture?" Sam nodded ahead, both boys looking at a playground. It was deserted. Only one child climbing around.
"Schools out, isn't it?" The demon asked.
"Yeah. So where is everybody? This place should be crawling with kids."
Dean walked over to a woman that was sitting on a park bench, reading a magazine.
"Sure quiet out here." He said.
"Yeah, it's a shame."
"Why's that?"
"You know, kids getting sick. It's a terrible thing."
"How many?" (M/n) asked.
"Just five or six, but serious, hospital serious. A lot of parents getting pretty anxious. They think it's catching."
(M/n) and Dean watch the little girl that was playing by herself, then look at each other.
~~~~~~~~
~Dane County Memorial Hospital~
The trio enter and approach the reception desk.
"Dude, I am not using this ID." Sam whined.
"Why not?"
"Cause it says bikini inspector on it!"
Dean grinned. "Don't worry, she wont look that close all right? Hell, she wont even ask to see it. It's all about confidence Sammy."
He spins Sam to face the desk and keeps walking, (M/n) following, like usual. The receptionist looked up at him.
"Hi. I'm doctor Jerry Caplin, Centers of Disease Control."
"Can I see some ID?" The woman said. Father down the hall, he could hear Dean snickering.
"Yeah, of course." Sam glared at Dean. He quickly flashed his ID, holding his thumb over part of it. "Now could you direct me to the pediatrics ward please?"
"Just down that hall, turn left and up the stairs."
Sam smiled and walked to the other two.
~~~~~~
The three walk down the corridor. Dean looking into every room they pass. An old evil looking woman sitting in a wheelchair slowly turns her head to look at him. An inverted cross hangs on her wall.
"Dean!" (M/n) said.
Dean follows.
~~~~~~~
"Well, thanks for seeing us, Dr. Hydecker."
"Well I'm glad you guys are here. I was just about to call CDC myself. How'd you find out anyways?" He asked the group.
"Oh, some GP, I forgot his name. He called Atlanta and, uh, he must've beat ya to the punch." Dean smiled.
"So, you say you have six causes so far?" Sam asked.
"Yeah, five weeks. At first we thought it was garden variety bacterial pneumonia. Not that newsworthy. But now..." The demon had no idea what the doctor was saying. It sounded like a foreign language to him.
"Now what?"
"The kids aren't responding to antibiotics. Their white cell counts keep going down. Their immune systems just aren't doing their job. It's like their bodies are...wearing out."
"Excuse me, Dr. Hyecker." A nurse came up, handing him some forms.
"You ever see anything like this before?" Sam asked Hydecker.
"Never this severe."
"And the way it spreads...that's a new one for me." The nurse added.
"What do you mean?"
"It works its way through families. But only the children, one sibling after another."
"You mind if we interview a few of the kids?"
"They're not conscious."
"None of them?"
"Nope."
"Can we, uh, talk to the parents?" Dean asked.
"Well, if you think it'll help."
"Yeah. Who was you most recent admission."
~Hospital waiting room~
There was a man sitting in a chair against the wall, Sam, Dean and (M/n) were sitting in front of him.
"I should get back to my girls." The man said.
"We understand that, and we really appreciate you talking to us. Now you say mary is the oldest?"
"Thirteen."
"Ok. And she came down with it first, right? And then..."
"Bethany, the next night."
"Within 24 hours?"
"I guess. Look, I already went through all this with the doctor."
"Just a few more questions if you don't mind."
~Later~
The three were walking back down the hall.
"You know, this might not be anything supernatural. It might just be pneumonia." Sam said.
"Maybe. Or maybe something opened that window. I don't know man, look, dad sent us down here for a reason. I think we might be barking up the right tree." The oldest said. (M/n) thought this whole thing hit something in Dean.
"I'll tell you one thing. That guy we jut talked to? I'm betting it'll be a while before he goes home."
~Another time skip~
~In Bethany's room~
The boys were looking for any clues, and checking the room with the EMF.
"Got anything over there?"
"Nope."
"Me neither." Sam said.
"What about you, (M/n)." Sam asked.
"I think Dean was right. It's not pneumonia." He said, looking at the window sill. The two other boys walked over and saw a handprint on the rotting wood.
"What the hell leaves a hand print like that?"
