《Mon Cheri (Solangelo AU)》Chapter 8

Will had a suit. A great suit. He'd purchased it on the line. And he'd been staring at it ever since he got out of the shower 25 minutes ago. Which wasn't a good thing, he doubted it the more he stared at it. What if it didn't look good on him? What if Nico didn't like it?
"Are you going to put it on? Or just stand there staring at it like its from outer space in your boxers and socks until the world ends?" Cecil joked as he resurfaced from the bathroom already in a dress shirt, but he wore it with socks and boxers.
Will rolled his eyes at his friend, "Of course I'm putting it on. That's its purpose."
"So put it on because you're starting to creep me out just standing there staring it. You're starting to look like a mannequin."
Will couldn't resist rolling his eyes again. "Alright whatever."
Will continued getting dressed quickly, realizing if he didn't hurry, he'd probably be late for Nico. He grabbed his favourite silver bow tie from his drawer and tied it around his neck, trying to be quick. He was excited. He couldn't wait to see Nico. In a suit.
I bet my life he looks sexy as fuck, Will thought. A huge grin took over his features as he tied his shoes and thought about Nico in a suit.
Cecil grabbed his coat from his bed as he was leaving and noticed Will's smile, "What are you so smiley about? That you might actually be late for once?"
Will stood and shook his head, "What are you talking about? I'm as ready as I'll ever be, I'm a quick dresser. Let's go. My date is waiting."
As Cecil swung open the door, there stood Nico with his fist poised to knock. And goddamn had Will been right. But he wasn't wearing a suit. Nico wore black skinny jeans with a rip on the left knee, a silver dress shirt, black tie and blazer, and black converse. (is Still, Nico looked mouth watering, suit or no.
They stared at each other for what seemed like forever until Cecil cleared his throat dramatically. Followed by, "What are you standing around there for? Don't we have a dance to get to?"
Nico and Will both blushed and after another beat of awkward silence Cecil said, "Can I just say? Dayum, Will. If you hadn't met him first, I would have definitely taken him for myself."
Nico's colored cheeks intensified and took on the color of ripe cherries. Will copied his actions and glared at one his closest friends. "Oh shut up, Cecil. You're not even into guys."

A crooked smirk took over his features, "Your date is still hot and I never said I wasn't."
Will would have argued but then realized his friend had a point.
Nico looked at the top of the door frame, his cheeks still flaming and grumbled, "Are we leaving or are you going to continue talking about me like I'm not here?"
"Sorry," Will said, "Let's get out of here." He glared at his friend on his way out and joined Nico in retreating to the ballroom, who had already turned around to head down there when Will took a step out of his shared room.
On the way down, Nico didn't say anything, his face still slightly red. But Will couldn't stop himself from complementing him because he did indeed look gorgeous. Not that he wasn't already but like, he just looked amazing. "Nico—" And then he remembered something and stopped himself. "Damn it, I'm sorry I forgot something, wait here, I'll be right back."
Without waiting for his reply he ran up the steps and back to his room. Cecil was still there, apparently he forgot something too. So much for Cecil being early to something in his life, Will thought. He stopped to look at him as he ran in, faster than Barry Allen, grabbed what he forgot and ran back out. He reached Nico on the steps soon enough and held out a single red tulip. Will had thought it was pretty and he didn't want to be cliché and get him a rose so he got that one instead. A red tulip meant a declaration of love, of course, Will didn't love him (yet) but he certainly liked him. "For you."
Nico's cheeks took on the color of the tulip and took the flower from his outstretched hand, "Oh um, thanks."
Will smiled, "It'd be way rude if I hadn't gotten my date a flower." Will would've actually gotten him a bouquet but he thought, in a way, a single flower meant more.
"Is it alright if I uh, leave it in my room?" Nico kept staring at the flower in his hand like it was a foreign object he'd never laid eyes upon. "I, umm, don't wanna loose it." He mumbled the last part and Will couldn't help his smile as it widened and he nodded, accompanying him to his room. It didn't take long for them to do so and they were once again heading back down to the ballroom.
As they neared the open doors, they could see the lights and hear the music pouring out in torrents. The dance was in full swing and they were late, but Will didn't mind. All they'd missed were the thank you's from students who put it together and the teachers along with a couple announcements about what not to do. You'd be amazed how many times water balloon fights had broken out during dances. Why? Will had no idea, apparently the tradition went all the way back to opening year.

As they entered the room, Will smirked in oblivious Nico's direction and instantly pulled his hot date onto the dance floor. Nico shot him a glare and tried to pull back as he threw protests Will couldn't hear but Will managed to keep his grip and get him into the dance floor. Magically, "Shut Up and Dance" by Walk the Moon had just begun playing. With a sudden strong tug, Will brought Nico close and whispered in his ear (as much as he could whisper over the loud music), "Shut up and dance with me, Nico."
Nico, for some unexplainable reason, obeyed. He wasn't doing much but enough to keep up with Will. And Will was a terrible dancer. He'd managed to hide it well enough at the karaoke club with enough swaying and jumping but he didn't think he'd be able to do that right then for much longer. And he didn't. Soon, after a couple songs, Nico finally noticed his terrible dancing and Will wondered if Nico would be embarrassed to be with him or just plain out run away and sit away from him but his reaction wasn't what he expected.
He burst out laughing.
Now, Will had barely seen Nico smiling. The tiniest smile at Blue Buffalo's, so small Will had been pondering the definition of a smile and asked himself of it counted. He still wasn't sure but seeing him laugh made his heart do somersaults in his chest and he stopped the pathetic hoping he dared call dancing to look at him. No one else stopped but Will. Everyone else continued to dance, ignoring them but Will was amazed and couldn't stop staring. His laugh was dorky in a way but adorable. It was adorkable and Will instantly fell in love with the sound. He wished Nico would never stop. But alas, Nico did when he noticed Will was no longer “dancing” and instead watching him.
"What?" His mouth relaxed into a smile. Will's heart could be barely held back by his ribs as it threatened to jump out because of the incredible jumps it was doing.
"You were laughing."
Nico turned his eyes away and examined the crowd still dancing around them, "Is that really what you call dancing, Solace?"
Will chuckled and tried to calm down his beating heart, "I'm not exactly what you call a dancer."
At that moment the song ended and Nico finally looked back at him but the smile had left. In its place was a smirk, "You don't say?"
Will let out another low laugh. And of course what kind of cheesy love story would this be if a slow song didn't start up right that second as they stared at each other? A not so cheesy one, that's what. So of course a slow song began.
Will closed the gap between them as the fist verse to "Falling to Pieces" by Junior Doctor rang through the ballroom. It wasn't exactly a romantic song and very slow but slow enough for an excuse to bring your date close and sway to the music. And that's exactly what Will did. Throughout the entire song they didn't break eye contact. Somewhere near the end, though, Will had begun to lean in and was surprised to realize Nico was doing the same but didn't stop. But then the song ended and a faster one slid through the speakers, breaking off their trance. Instantly, Nico pulled away, his eyes wide at first, then sad and finally, angry. He glared at Will as he cleared his throat. Both their faces were flaming. They didn't say anything for what seemed like forever until Nico announced he was leaving.
"What?" Will followed quickly as to not loose him in the crowd. "Nico, wait." But he wasn't sure he heard him over the noise and he didn't want to yell over the music for fear of making a scene. Evidence pointed towards Nico not liking that.
When he finally managed to catch up to him, Nico was already on the floor of the girls' rooms. He could be really fast if he wanted to be. "Nico, wait."
He didn't reply and sped up his pace. He was practically running now. He'd reached his room in no time and quickly took out his key, not even giving Will a second glance, like he wasn't even there.
"Nico." He stood next to him. "I'm sorry. I don't—"
He unlocked his door and hurried inside, before he closed the door in his face he bid him goodnight.
Will sighed and closed his eyes. A little glad he'd at least said goodnight but mostly bummed about what had happened.
"Goodnight, Nico." He whispered as he passed the door to his own room, hoping, even though he'd whispered, that Nico had been waiting for his reply and heard him.

Displacement
or, Deux Navires Passant dans la Nuit If you wake up in a new world, with only your memories of home to guide you, you have to trust the first people you meet. The first people Leah meets seem to know her - but not her. Leah is thrust into a fighter's role that does not quite suit her, and those who 'rescued' her do their best to help her fit in. They hint at a world that Leah can only vaguely understand without serious research and exploration, but how to do that research, when everyone believes her to be a local of this place, and too many questions might draw unwanted attention? And what about home? The more Leah learns about this world, the less she believes that she woke up on the right side of the bed - or more accurately, on the right side of the conflict. With magic being strictly regulated in her current "home," maybe it's time to uproot and look for a new set of allies... -- Displacement is a queer / lgbt bodyswap isekai: Leah Armande falls out of a Quebecois city into an unfamiliar fantasy world, and Leah Talesh falls out of her adventuring party's homeland and into an unfamiliar industrial world. The story follows both women as they navigate their new surroundings, trying at times to find a way home, at times just to pass for a local, and at times to actually make a life for themselves in their new world. Expect in-depth politics and worldbuilding, sapphic moments, foibles, and far too much time spent either in libraries or convalescing (or sometimes both).
