《Tokyo Ghoul X reader OneShots》Flower Crowns | Arima Kishou

A/N: BEFORE ANYTHING GETS STARTED: No, I'm not back into the oneshot business, I'm sorry. This one is just because a dear friend of mine asked for it and I owe him s o much it's incredible. I'm gonna pète a coche bc this didn't turn out as great as I wanted it to bUT OH WELL
The timeline's all jumbled up, by the way. I just wanted to add some events because I could.
As soon as you stepped into the office, you couldn't hide the bright smile off your face. It's not like you should, anyways. Sometimes, you were the only positive thing left in this workplace at times. It was better to stay genuine and stay happy, like you've been working so hard to do.
You sauntered through the various hallways of the CCG, your two hands hidden behind your back as you made your way to your destination. Investigators passed by and nodded at you, while you politely nodded back. Upon seeing what you were hiding, the ones you knew couldn't help but chuckle at your childishness. None mocked it, however. Everyone knew how desperately the CCG needed something to distract them from the terrible reality.
Once you reached the set of doors that separated you from your boyfriend, you took a deep breath to suppress your oncoming laughter and pushed it open. You were greeted by his squad of course, to which you reciprocated their polite 'hello's. From the way they were all seated, it appeared to be a meeting of sorts. Your smirk widened. Great, you'd have more witnesses.
Upon seeing you, Kishou was almost unable to fight back his smile. He couldn't help it, yours was incredibly contagious, after all. He made no move to get up from his position at the table, however. There was something off about you, he felt it. As if you were scheming something. As you nonchalantly walked towards him with your hands behind your back, he deduced that you were definitely up to something. All that was left to discover was the gravity of your acts.
"Er... Investigator (L/N)?" Ui questioned as you wordlessly made your way towards the white haired male you learnt to love. "Is there something you need?" He asked. You could tell he was slightly irritated by your interruption, but he'll have to deal with it. This office is too grim for you, at times. You need to brighten it up, and Kishou is usually the way to go.
Once you were face to face with him, you beamed. "Good morning, Special Class investigator Arima." You formally greeted with an undertone of mockery.
"Good morning, Associate Special Class (L/N)." He answered, giving you a short but awkward nod of acknowledgement. Before he could ask what you were doing here, you swiftly placed the flower crown you had made on his head, your smile widening even more (if humanely possible) when you finally got to see the result.
The blue flowers seemed to not only match perfectly with the suit he had chosen today, but also reflect in his white hair, turning the crown of his head a pale blue. Sort of when he was younger, you noticed. "You look even more stunning than I anticipated!" You complimented, letting out a light laugh. "Please, don't take it off Kishou!"
"Associate Special Class, Special Class, we have a meeting t-"
"I won't." Arima cut Ui off, causing his subordinate to give up on trying to bring things back to how they were before you so rudely interrupted them. "But I do hope I'm not the only one wearing a flower crown today?"
You shook your head, showing him your very own flower crown before putting it on your head. "I told you numerous times before and I'll tell you again; as long as you're alright with it, I won't let you handle anything on your own." You then patted his head like you would with a small puppy.
A small smile appeared on Arima's face just then, unable to resist your giddiness anymore.
See, this was one of the many reasons why he loves you so. You're literally the light of his life, a ray of sunshine-- no, his sun. Kishou had been through so many tough stages throughout his short life that having someone like you around seemed to make him feel young and free all over again (or in his case, as free as he once had the opportunity to feel). He loved how much effort you'd put into bringing joy into the office and on the battlefield while knowing (most of the time) what was appropriate and what wasn't. One day, you're sarcastic and ready to roast anyone who looks interested or in need of it and the other you're doing things like these, whose sole purpose is to make him feel happy and loved. He can't say that these sorts of things haven't been doing their jobs.
You sat down beside him, still taking in his appearance with the flower crown atop his head. The two of you looked like the royalty of the CCG, with Kishou as your king. It makes sense, too, seeing as he's basically the CCG's best investigator, even if you've almost never mentioned it yourself, you acknowledge it (you know how it makes him feel when people see him as a god instead of a human being).
"Aren't you supposed to go look after the Quinx today?" Your boyfriend asked after a few minutes of shameless staring. By now, his squad had all went to their cubicles, seeing as the meeting was obviously postponed due to your visit.
"I was, but they decided to go dress shopping, in case you haven't heard about it." You answered while smiling.
"Dress shopping?" Kishou repeated, obviously puzzled. "What is Haise doing?"
"Making his squad become girls." You saw his eyes widen for an instant.
"We're not paying the surgery, are we?" He quickly questioned, appalled at the idea of pouring thousands of dollars into something like that (because the CCG surely wouldn't be happy with him for that) while you laughed at his cluelessness.
"They're not getting surgery! They're just cross-dressing to get to Nutcracker."
"Oh." He muttered, scratching his head in an attempt to hide his embarrassed state. He was such a dork...
Midst scratching, Kishou's crown fell off his head and landed on the table. The two of you stared at it for a while, until your boyfriend picked it up and closely analyzed it. "Are you keeping it on all day?" He asked you as he kept his own crown in his hands. You had no idea if he'd tell you that he won't keep it on or if he will. Kishou's a wild card at times and right now, he wasn't easy to read.
"Of course," You answered, absentmindedly fiddling with the circle of plants adorning your head. "It adds some punch to my outfit." You teased.
"It would have been funny if you had worn something floral patterned." He muttered while letting out a low chuckle.
"I would have been arrested by the fashion police in mere moments!" You exclaimed. "Do you want me to end up in jail?"
"Fashion police isn't a real thing, (Y/N)."
"But there used to be a butt crack police in some foreign country I forget the name of. If someone's crack was showing to a certain extent, they'd get a fine or get arrested." You informed.
Kishou had no idea where you got such useless information, but he couldn't deny the fact that it was absolutely adorable.
"So?" You asked, looking at him before shifting your gaze to the flower crown in his hands. "Are you going to wear it?"
"Of course I'm going to wear it." He answered as he placed it back on his head. "I'm not going to let you go through something all alone, if you allow me to do so."
You gave him a soft smile. That promise you had given to each other was the base of this relationship, and it was extremely strong. Together, you felt like you could take on the world, in some way. But you wouldn't, because you aren't into absolute monarchy. And you don't think Kishou is into that, either.
"Thanks." You muttered before leaning in and capturing his lips with yours for a moment. You'd never grow used to how soft his are, for someone as stressed as him. He was blessed with soft lips and they felt so nice on your own.
You pulled away before things could go any further. This was your workplace, after all. You can only risk so much in here. "Thanks for letting me give you the crown, too. It looks super good on you. And it makes your hair look blueish, it's cute." You then stood up while Kishou took your hand in his, probably a silent plea for you to stay. He was completely forgetting the fact that he was at work.
"I gotta go see the Suzuya squad. I've got some information on the Nutcracker case that they need." You informed while looking down at your hand. "For that, I'd need my hand, Kishou." You quietly said while flashing him an amused smile. He looked down at his hand and quickly let go of yours, apologizing for unprofessional behaviour.
"Nah, it's alright." You assured. "We'll carry out the hand holding tonight after work, alright?"
"About that," The male stood up, towering over you. "We've got some paper work to do together. I was wondering if you'd want to stop by after work? I'll make dinner." He proposed.
"Of course! I'll wait for you up here?"
"Sounds like a plan."
"Then it's a date!" You confirmed, winking at him before walking away, making sure your flower crown was proudly sitting on your head.
Subconsciously, Kishou did the same.
"I can't believe it!" You huffed. "I literally had five more minutes on the clock! There has to be a law against dragging investigators into dangerous last-minute operations when they've only got five more minutes left at work!"
"Where's your positivity?" Ui sarcastically asked you, smiling at your displeased state. "We won't make it out alive without it, you know."
"Dude, I had a date with your boss tonight." You snapped back. "I don't like the Owl one bit."
"So much for professional language or behaviour." Koori muttered as you slumped in your seat while the car drove you to the scene.
"We'll still have to fill out that paperwork, the date's not off." Kishou said, joining in your game of 'Who Can Be The Most Unprofessional Investigator Here'. "It's just going to last longer than expected."
"There's an undertone that I do not like in there." Ui warned, almost disgusted. "And will you two take those flowers off your head? Next thing you know they'll be a hazard on the battlefield."
"They're pretty tough, actually." You commented. "Mine hasn't fallen off all day."
"Mine neither." Your boyfriend added, causing Ui to grow quite annoyed with your childishness.
"I can't believe this could be my last human interaction." He groaned. He, too, seemed to throw professionalism out the window. I mean, yolo, right? You three might be walking to your deaths right now. Fuck professionalism, when you're at the level you're at.
Soon (too soon, in your opinion), the CCG van stopped at the designated spot, a mile or two away from where the Owl was causing a ruckus. You had heard plenty about it, but you had never fought it before. This was a whole new level for you. After finishing this operation, you'd definitely be promoted to a Special Class investigator. There's no way they'd miss you this year. You'd be the very first Quinx to be promoted at such a high level (Urie can kiss your fuckin' ass, that kid needs to learn some manners before he gets promoted any further).
"Ya'll ready to kick some bird ass?" You asked as you jumped out of the car with your quinque in hand and kakugan flashing bright.
Ui and Kishou wordlessly followed, getting into their game mode (as you liked to call it). And you were too, of course. It's just that you got into the fighting mood by joking around. You know, build some confidence for you and your team. Get more positive floating around than negative. And your flower crown probably gave you more willpower, somehow. You hoped it affected Arima in the same way.
Before the three of you and a second squad (that arrived a few moments after you did) could advance to the battlefield, it seemed the Owl came to you. Change of plans. A big one.
"Assume positions!" Arima exclaimed. The group spread out in three lines, you being on the offense with Ui, Arima and a few other skilled investigators that you need to talk to soon (especially if you want that promotion). "Attack!"
With that, you were one of the first to lunge, with Arima. The two of you had a great chemistry out of the battlefield, it was only normal that you'd have it during times like these too. It was really rare that the two of you would screw up your timing or techniques, even in the toughest of fights. That's the Arima-(L/N) duo for ya.
Your weapon broke not even three minutes in. All you had left was a stick made of quinque steel, after a while.
"Why aren't you using your kagune yet?!" Ui yelled, trying his best to speak over the disturbing giggles the Owl was emitting and the screaming of dying men (and women).
"Because I want to shove this up its ass!" You answered as loudly (if not, louder) while lifting up the stick. "I'll shove it so far up it'll tickle its uvula!"
You have no idea how, but that sort of hyped you up. On the next planned attack with Arima, you gave even more effort than usual, determined to end that ghoul's life for good.
It seems that it had other plans in mind. Instead of focusing on both of you, the Owl swiped at you, nearly crushing you if it weren't for your kagune and quick reflexes. Your flower crown, however, didn't survive the hit. You yelped as you felt the top of your head, sad to see it missing.
"What's wrong?" Ui asked, thinking you were harmed.
"She's dead!" You exclaimed.
"Who is?"
"Ubai! My flower crown!" You answered. "It meant sweet potato in Indonesian!"
Ui rolled his eyes at you as you frowned. That asshole of an Owl was really asking for it now. As you got up, you glanced at Arima, who stood a few ways away from you. He looked you from head to toe while you noticed how enraged he looked.
"Hey, I'm fine. I'm unharmed." You tried to assure. Kishou looked like he was absolutely seething with anger. "Don't get angry." You warned. Getting angry, in Arima's case, caused him to go astray, most of the time. His performance isn't as good and right now, you needed him at his peak.
"Kishou." You tried again. "I'm a quinx, I'm fin- KISHOU!" The man jumped into action before you could tell him not to do what he just fucking did. You can't believe the guy, getting angry at a ghoul because it knocked a flower crown off your head.
Arima knew as well as you did that what he was attempting right now was far from a good idea. He also knew trying to channel his anger to improve his strength was a terrible idea as well, but how could he do anything else? You nearly died because of her. He made a deal with her and she was so fucking close to breaking it. Actually, she did break it. By attempting to harm you (and in his opinion, she damn well succeeded), the deal was off. There was no holding back. Eto will fall tonight, he'll make sure of it.
What he wasn't expecting was for you to follow close behind him, although you shouldn't be. His attacks were too quick for you to back them up and they were far more complicated, so you couldn't even improvise at this point. You were going to get yourself killed if you kept going.
"(L/N), fall back!" He ordered. You stubbornly shook your head. He felt his heart drop. No. Please, no. Don't be disobedient now. He'll do anything, just listen to him just this once, please.
"We promised each other! I'm not letting you go through this alone if you let me-"
"I don't want you by my side right now!" He cut off before he could stop himself. Shit. Within a blink of an eye, your determination faded into nothing, being replaced by hurt and... was that betrayal? He couldn't be sure since you left his view before he could figure it out.
Your body soared through the air, motionless, and you hit the ground neck first, most likely breaking it on impact. Kishou's body abruptly stopped functioning and froze up, causing the flower crown on his head to fall off and land on the ground with a soft, almost inaudible thud. Behind him, Eto giggled. "Was that them? Was I not supposed to kill them?" She asked in an amalgamation that didn't even resemble her true voice. "Whoops." With that, she fled the scene, leaving Kishou with the brutal reality that you were severely harmed.
As soon as his body would allow him to move, he dashed towards you, ignoring the pitiful looks the others gave him. He kneeled in front of you, cradling your oddly heavy body close to his.
"(Y/N)?" He got no answer.
"(Y/N), I'm sorry. I didn't mean that." He muttered in a way that only you'd hear him. "Wake up now, I'll make it up to you. Forget the paperwork tonight, it'll be a normal date, alright? I just need you to wake up. I'm really, really sorry."
Kishou got no answer, yet again. It was far too late for apologies. He lifted your body a bit higher off the ground, noticing the abnormal shape of your neck. He knew you had died upon impact (maybe even mid-air, for all he knew), but he didn't want to acknowledge it. He couldn't.
It was far too late for apologies now.
As you lay lifeless in his arms, Kishou buried his face into your chest in a feeble attempt to hide his tears from the other investigators watching from afar.
While all heat disappeared from your body, Kishou clutched onto it tighter, as if it would keep the remaining of your life force inside you.
But it didn't. Like a sunset, you slowly disappeared from the world's view. The only difference in your case being, the happiness and warmth you provided Kishou wouldn't return in twelve hours. It wouldn't return at all.
The flowers fell apart that night.
