The date is May 6th, 2017.

February 1, 2017.

This was the first day that all soccer players were allowed to sign their Letter of Intent or committing to a certain college to play a sport.

April 12th, 2016.

This was the first day that all basketball players were allowed to sign their Letter of Intent.

May 17th, 2017.

This is the last day that any basketball player committing to a Division 1 school (all the top schools in sports) was allowed to commit to the school for that sport.

August 1st, 2017.

This is the last day any soccer player was allowed to sign their Letter of Intent for any school, whether it be Division 1, 2, or 3.

It didn't make any sense that basketball players had less time to decide...okay they have an early period but Christy didn't commit to any colleges and needed more time. The early period was during the season anyways.

I knew I was going to go to a Division 1 school for soccer, but most of the schools were out of California and I didn't know if I wanted to leave the state for soccer.

The top school in soccer currently was in Virginia and they're not necessarily the most gay-friendly place.

The two options in California: UCLA or Stanford.

I had plenty of time to think about it so I was not worried about it at all.

Christy on the other hand, was completely stressing out about making a choice. She had offers from nearly all 25 top schools in basketball.

She had a full ride to UConn, the top school in basketball for the past three years. She didn't want to leave California either. Which leaves her also with UCLA and Stanford as her only two options.

We both had full ride scholarships to it so if we were to do long distance, we could use the money we saved up for college to pay for the flights and rides.

Senior year was absolutely amazing.

Christy had an undefeated season and won the championship and state championship.

I did not have an undefeated season but we also won the the championship and state championship.

We were definitely the power couple of the school.

We went to prom together and we wore matching dresses. We didn't wear black like we planned, but we wore a silky blue.

Honestly after we spent that summer in LA together, things were going strong as ever. We had a healthy relationship and my family finally started to accept Kayla more and be less...aggressive around her

Now it was Saturday and Christy was over with all her pamphlets of the college who offered her scholarships. They were all spread out over my bed as she laid on my chest.

"How about Ohio State?" I suggested, picking up the pamphlets.

"Ugh no, I hate Ohio. Cross them off my list." Christy made a face as she sat up. "Okay, how many schools have I crossed off the list?"

I picked up Christy's messy list and started reading off it, "No to South Carolina, Notre Dame, Maryland, Ohio, Louisville, Kentucky, Arizona, Mississippi, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Virginia."

"What schools are a possibility?" She laid back onto the bed.

"UConn, Oregon, Baylor, Texas A&M, Washington, Stanford, Florida, UCLA, Michigan, Miami, and Texas."

"You know, you narrowed it down to a pretty good bunch." I laid back down and turned toward her.

"Yeah but I have 11 days to make a choice." She groaned. "No Florida schools. It's too humid there."

"Have you been to Florida?" I asked curiously.

"No but I have no desire to."

"But Disney World is there!" I exclaimed.

"And we have Disneyland like less than 200 miles away." She crossed off the schools in Florida.

"Well you should cross out Texas too. It's like burning hot and gun crazy there." I told her as I gave her a kiss.

"I honestly think that UCLA, Oregon, UConn, Stanford, and Washington are the only schools I'll be interested in."

"Top 5! Congrats babe." I placed my hand on her lap.

"Maybe we can take a break and get back to that?" Christy suggested.

"Do you want to make cookies and brownies?"

"Like when we first started dating?" She gave me a huge smile.

"Yes because of how much you love brownies and fresh baked cookies."

"With ice cream."

"Yes, with ice cream. That's very important." She said seriously.

I laughed at her. She is always thinking or talking about food. God I loved her so much. "I love you."

"I love you too. And brownies. Let's get to that." Christy got up from the bed and threw on one of my t shirts.

I loved that Christy would always wear my t shirts and that they were a always a little too long for her so she wouldn't wear any pants with it. My favorite thing obviously.

"Come on babe. Let's go!" Christy said as she threw a t shirt at me and ran out of the room.

I threw on a t shirt sand went after Christy.

When I got to the kitchen, all the ingredients were already out and she was already mixing the ingredients.

I stuck a finger in the cookie dough and took a piece of it.

"Hey! No eating raw cookie dough! You'll get sick!" She nagged.

"Whatever mom." I rolled my eyes at her while I opened the fridge and took a swing out of the strawberry lemonade.

"Use a cup Kayla!"

I put down the jug of juice and pick up the brownie batter and pour it into the pan and put it in the oven. Christy puts the dough into the fridge for it to set.

I hop on the counter and continue to drink lemonade straight from the jug.

"What are we going to do when we're in college?" I asked as I passed the jug of lemonade to her.

"I don't know. If I stay in California, it'll be easier. If I go out of state, it might be harder." Christy laid her head on my shoulder.

"Would you really want to go out of state though? And be so far away from home?"

"UCLA is a top school." I gave her a kiss on the cheek.

"Did you suggest that school to me because that's your top school?"

"Well maybe. Don't you want to be together for the college experience?"

Christy thought about it for a second. "Well yeah, but at the same time we shouldn't make our choices based on what we personally feel?"

"You don't want to be with me for college?"

"Of course I do. It's just UCoon and Oregon could be fresh starts for me. And you know how much I love nature and they both offer that."

"I mean there's plenty of nature right outside LA."

"Yeah but like it's not anything new though. I mean like we've hiked like all the trails before."

"I have an idea." Christy shifted a bit and turned so we were face to face. "We should go out of state together!"

I was excited at her idea at first and then my face dropped. "You know, I think it would be better if we could go to LA together. I mean we wouldn't even have to worry about dorms or renting an apartment since my family already has one."

"But dorms are part of the college experience!"

"Shitty cafeteria food and huge public showers, who wants that?" I made a face.

"Well not everyone can afford to live in a penthouse in Central LA!" She snapped.

"Well you have that luxury so why don't you take advantage of it?"

"This isn't my life Kayla! I didn't always have nice clothes or even food on the table to eat"

"This CAN be your life though! You could live in a penthouse in Central LA!"

"I don't want to depend on you financially!" She exploded.

"You're not! You're just living with your girlfriend who happens to have a reasonable amount of money." I explained calmly.

"What if we break up? Not saying it's going to happen, but worse cause scenario what would we do? What would I do? Where would I stay?"

"You could totally stay in the apartment! It's not a big deal, we're mature people!" I argued.

"Do you honestly think that would work?" Christy asked in a genuine voice.

"Yes I do. I think it's because we love each other and we can be mature about it."

"I just don't think it's realistic, Kayla."

"It is! We spent 3 months together in LA!"

"But we're talking about 9 months for 4 years! We haven't even been together for a full year yet!"

My heart dropped at that. "So you don't believe in us?"

"I do, I do. It's just because like I think we're moving too fast."

"No you just don't believe in us!" I said with a raised voice.

"Kayla! Be realistic! Why should I give up full scholarships to all these great colleges like Stanford or UConn for a school who didn't give me a full ride like UCLA?"

"Because I don't have scholarships to any of those colleges! Why can't you ask UCLA to match the amount?"

"I don't need another school to match, I have over 10 colleges who gave me full rides!"

"You can't just do this for me, Christy? I would do the same for you." I feel tears threatening to spill out of my eyes.

"I know you would. I just don't think this is the best choice."

"I think you should leave." I told her as I walk toward my room.

"Kayla, come on-"

"No seriously. Please leave."

Christy didn't say anything else and left without saying a word.

Right when the door closed, the oven dinged.

Great.

I walked back into the kitchen and brought out the brownies. I cut them out and put them inside the cake display.

I didn't know what to do. Christy and I never had a fight this big. It just wasn't like us to argue like this.

I decided to call the only person I knew when I had a problem.
